I am getting ready to put an Iron Bull bumper and a winch on my 2001. I would like to run a dual battery setup like I have on my FJ40, but there is little room under the hood for a second battery.

    Any ideas?

Why couldn’t you put it right inside the passenger side fender?

That's exactly where I would put one.

Even the 2002 with ABS Module in the way there is some room in that general area for something.

Check out the Blue Sea ML-ACR if you go with a second battery. You can even jump yourself if your main goes dead.

I’ve been contemplating running a second battery under the truck on the frame rail so I can power things in the camper and eventually amps for the stereo too. No lost engine bay room and help balance out the lean a wee bit with a battery on the passenger side under the bed

I had a 2011 Chevy Express van with a diesel in it. The second battery was mounted just like that. I wonder if you could buy the Chevy battery mount and use it on your Tundra.

There are companies that make trays for the sides of frames. Actually not to uncommon for hot rod classic trucks. It’s an idea for now. I may or may not do it.

Haven't done the second battery on my tundra yet but we did my brother's passport/rodeo near the frame rail underneath. Really nice install because that truck had no engine bay room for another battery. I may do the same when I get around to my truck. I also second the blue sea isolator recommendation. It's a great solenoid and very convenient to be able to force connection when winching or to jump yourself.

Photos for example of the setup we made for the passport/rodeo.

SDHQ has a kit for a second battery in the engine compartment.

I put a second full-size battery in the bed.

Still working on finishing up some wiring.

I'm back to thinking about a dual battery setup. I thought I read somewhere that if you moved/remounted the fuse box back towards the firewall a few inches, you could mount two batteries side by side, in the OEM battery spot. The batteries would be oriented 90 degrees to the OEM mounting. Anyone else recall anything like that? Too big of a PITA to move the fuse box to make it worth it?

I am running a northstart group 31 up front. I am considering adding small group 24 starting battery to the right side. My thought right now is that it would be backup only. I just want to add a small charging circuit so it is always ready to party but other than that it just sets there looking pretty. If I need it hooking up jumper cables would be easy enough.

Unless I can mount two batteries side by side, I'm starting to lean towards the mounting of a tray, underneath, on the frame for the second battery. The spot towards the firewall, on the passenger side, it where a compressor will go. If I felt the need, I could set up remote terminals to make jumping myself easy.
