    I can expand on this to share some additional perspective. Maybe it'll help you in your next step, or later in life.

    I can tell you after dating and then marrying someone who ran her own businesses and has sat at an executive level for more than a decade, I've benefitted extraordinarily from seeing and hearing her view of things. I've also been responsible for hiring, training and building up humans to survive in our customer-facing tech environment for more than a decade at this point, so feel free to ask me anything, anytime about work and I'll share my perspective. Sure others her ecan do similar.

    This is the kind of stuff I/we look for across the jobs I've worked. It may not translate exactly to your environment, but 90% of the time it's held true -

    Once people pass the 10-12 year mark somewhere, if they can't or don't show at least some lateral movement or internal position changes every 2-5 years they're viewed as complacent, non-achievers, disinterested, 'there for the ride', unmotivated. This is even true for those who are in the upper-end of their team, top of the stack in talent. If you reach the 99th percentile in your team, why aren't you taking the next step? It's suspicious, but I'd still take them over job- or contract-hoppers any day.

    When you get those folks whose work history is peppered with half a dozen or more 6-18 month stints, the immediate thought crossing a hiring manager's mind >> this is either a 'serial contractor' or disruptive and-or incapable enough enough to last long anywhere. Neither are interesting unless the task at hand calls for a short term hire, but if it actually did, they would've listed this as a contract gig or internship versus a full- or part-time role. So yeah, these usually go right into the circular file.

    Ideally, I'm usually looking to hire someone who sticks with roles or employers in the 3-8 year range, and I want to see them hop around at least one or two internal positions in that process to show flexibility and initiative. At that point, with that experience, I'm pretty sure I don't need to worry whether they have a degree, if they're capable, they wouldn't have lasted that long if they weren't, so their education/background doesn't phase me as long as they've been able to accomplish the work.

    With a 3-8 years stint under their belt, they're showing me they can invest in something for more than 1-2 years without jumping ship, so I'm likely to have a higher chance of longer-term retention because I *hate* the hiring process, it sucks ass! This is why I don't waste time with short-stint serial 'hoppers'. The process of listing a position, accepting resumes, weeding resumes, scheduling interviews, processing, background checks, training, it f'ing SUCKS and I want to do it as little as possible.

    For full disclosure, I was 2 years into working for a tech startup that hired me when they were bought out by a foreign technology holding company in 2001. I've been with the parent company ever since, so 19 years plus those first 2. Every 2-5 years I've hopped to a new role, but always maintained a 25% foot in the door handling corporate security / information security tasks. Like ....

    I started building out a helpdesk and support system the first couple years. Then moved into building web applications for a couple years. Worked as a sysadmin and network admin for two small sites a couple years after that. Moved into building QA and automation tools which were then leased to manufacturers at a great profit to the company. Transferred into managing a broadband and broadcast lab. Then back to pure-technology role with some staff under me. I'm now on a team of guys managing cloud-based infrastructure, which is interesting but I'm not sure if I want to stick with it.

    It's been an interesting ride over that 21 years. I spent ages 14-23 before that juggling two jobs, between a car audio install shop, bike shop and misc restaurants, resorts and catering companies with a few odd stints here and there in totally unrelated industries. I've seen a lot of shit in my lifetime. Based on what I've seen of you here, I think you'll do fine making a leap to another place if it's what's needed. You might even manage to swing a better shift out of it.

    This is either the sign of a knowledgeable and smart manager, or a company that cares more about scrimping and saving than their manager's sanity and business efficiency.

    If you're capable of picking out the good apples, and you pop their cherry by giving their 1st professional opportunity while molding them into something productive, you'll save yourself a lot of headaches and can make a flock of ultra-loyal long-term employees. If you suck at hiring, or maybe hands are tied with what you can offer, you'll likely end up with a shit crew that causes you more headaches than anything, maybe doing stupid shit like taping buttons ON instead of properly repairing things.

    But those choices all start with upper management. And it sounds like the management in this case sucks ass, but the folks in Japan holding the place don't necessarily mind or care. And this is the kind of stuff that causes middle management to jump ship and poach as many of those loyal and competent people as possible, which you may already have seen or be seeing.

    By the way, did that chick manage to salvage anything past the wrist? Or did the docs toss the bits in the garbage and cauterize the stump?

    I've used plastic 4x3 project boxes and lighted toggle switches. You've got the relay box on the way so you could use something like cat5/6 wiring to the switches to provide the signal to the relay.

    Never, never, never for the love of god never fuck with safeties and guards. They're there for a reason and are engineered in blood. I have no sympathy for someone who gets hurt because they modified or removed a safety/guard.

    As a journeyman, a lead hand, a safety committee member and first responder I will shut a job down and write up an employee or even recommend their termination if they screw with safety controls. Been there, seen that, threw out the blood stained gloves, done the paperwork on a fatality. Zero tolerance from me. There is no level of production or job worth an injury or fatality.

    I have a stripped nut in my Honda. Did a little research and found the Rocket Socket. Haven’t dropped the coin yet... I suppose a good set of channel lock/locking pliers should help. Though I’m not sure if you have any space back there

    It's very handy. You don't even have to be that good at it or buy an expensive machine for those occasional small repairs. An El Cheapo flux core from Harbor Freight will do in a pinch.

    I drove it in just about every on road scenario I could encounter for the better part of an hour, dude threw me the keys and said have at it. Made sure to take the drive through my neighborhood, daily drive to work and all that stuff that I do well... daily. So keep that in mind. I didn’t hit anything that wasn’t pavement except for the gnarly 6” drainage inverts at the end of my street that commonly send Buick owners crying to the dealer.

    When I say “new truck feel” it ate those drainage inverts at the intersection like I imagine those Baja trucks do. The reality is, I have 180k on worn out factory Bilsteins with a 2” puck on top. Hence me ordering new 5100s that night.

    The exhaust was loud as hell. Some might dig that but I don’t. Especially when it’s that terrible V6 gurgle. Conversely, the road noise was far and above quieter and I’ve got like 70lbs of Noico in my truck.

    If you feel like a FGT is short on interior ft^3, don’t even consider a taco. There’s more storage cubbies everywhere for misc items but if you’re 6’ or above, it feels like I’m driving my wife’s compact suv.

    If you’re ever in TX, hit me up. I’ve ridden most of the state shy of the panhandle. Hell I took a 2 week vacay about a month ago and drove from here to north east TX. Packed a cooler, my hard tail and a hammock. Rode anything and everything I could find in between.

    Don’t worry @bmf4069, me and the old lady made plans again to hit up Palo Duro in the spring. God willin and the COVID don’t rise.
