just starting my investigation into this since i cant really have a boat per h.o.a. rules. how does the long arm work when you get to location? do you back the truck in the boat dock, unload like a boat and move out of the way after staging the kayak? i would be by myself so trying to figure out the transport from bed to water. thanks.

Kyaks are light enough to carry, or you can get a dolley for them.

If your yak is light enough and you're packing light, just shoulder it and walk it down as long as the hike is reasonable.
I almost always use the boat launch because my yaks and gear aren't light enough to carry. I stage in the parking lot, get all my shit loaded up, then hit the ramp. I like to get in and out quickly.

this is what i picked up the strap is not the best but i use a 1" ratchet strap to secure it and seems to work especially in muddy and sandy shores...

I have a Hobie Revo16 as my main ocean kayak. Used for salmon/halibut trolling or rockfish. It’s a very fast kayak (around 6mph on a flat lake). My other one is hobie outback which I use primarily for bass fishing or ocean crabbing. Biggest fish I’ve caught was a 41” halibut (one on my avatar)

Nice boats guys, I’m just getting into the game. Bought a Pescador 12 Pro. Made in my hometown which is cool. It definitely lacks some features, but I’m just learning this game and know it’s better than a big-box special! My wife and toddler approve. 97AF6E1B-AA98-4C4A-8293-3CE3414C8812.jpg

It's a double trailer sold through Hobie. It was $1500 plus $250 for the cradles. I don't travel with 2 kayaks anymore so I built a storage box for one side. I store all my fishing poles and gear and everything I need for the kayak. It works out great!

Wife wasn't crazy about me jumping on charters out of So Cal. Picked up a Hobie mirage with pedal drive and a few accessories. $1500. nice little rig, but need a hoist system to store it on the ceiling of my garage. Also ordered some Inno cross bars with locking towers to transport the thing. I just don't have space for a trailer, otherwise, I'd be fabricating one right now.

Finished my rudder mod. As you can see the factory rudder is only 3 1/4" wide, which hinders the steering, to put it plainly it sucks. Added a plexiglass add on to get more steering control, especially in windy conditions. Gotta get the best out of this kayak until I upgrade to a Hobie :D

Had an incredible day at a state fishing lake with my 2020 Tundra DC and 2021 Hobie PA14 360! Caught a bunch of nice bass and lost several monsters. Still a day on the water and the weather was great. Caught all of them on several different jigs with crawfish and shad trailers with KVD fishsticks craw scent.

What do you think of your 360 drive? Have you used the previous 180 drive or similar in the past?

So I’ve previously owned two Hobie Mirage Outbacks with 180 drives which I enjoyed, so I do have experience with both. I love the stability of the PA and the control of the 360. In some ways, I wish I had the PA12, instead of the 14 as I think the ideal for how I like fishing might be an Outback (lighter and more stealthy) with a 360 drive (better fishability). Overall, I do like it though. I still fish it extremely shallow in thick cover. It goes where the fish are!

Here’s a pic of my Outbacks that I traded for the PA.

Little sad it took me this long to see this thread.

Ive been kayak fishing since 2001 originally out of San Diego around Jim Sammons and that crew. Went on to run Kayakfishingsupplies.com from 2007-2014. Left there to head the Kayak Fishing program at Next Adventure in Oregon. I have grown far out of that role and into the Paddlesports Buyer years ago but obviously have a special place for the sport that got me started in this career. Was the Wilderness Systems Fishing Team manager for the Western US and Western Canada for about 6-7 years somewhere in there as well (lotta Icast videos on the Thresher with me out there especially). Also founded the Heroes on the Water chapter in Socal,an organization every kayak angler should look into spending a day with sometime (and supporting on their Amazon Smile account). In short, I am a kayak fisherman to the core!

Of course I dont get out near as much as I want anymore! But I do know a guy if anyone needs a hookup.... In fact id love to set up a Tundras.com discount code on our site if anyone was interested (and admin approved). We carry most the major brands and hold more stock than most shops (currently have over 1000 premium kayaks in stock). Do Hobie, Wildy, Perception, Jackson, Nucanoe, Swell, Vagabond, Pelican, Native, Bonafide, Old Town, BSB, and lots lots more (Including all the accessories).

I’m bringing this thread back to life. I’m offended the Pelican Catch series hasn’t been mentioned but like twice?

for what it costs, it’s a great beginner/novice kayak. I’ve had my catch120 for nearly 7 years now. Also have a catch100 as a secondary kayak. I’ll be getting a third to start a fishing guide service. But I’ll stand by this….

if you’re on a budget. Pelican Catch kayaks are reaaalllyyyyy hard to beat. IMG_2575.jpg
