    Hey,
I have seen some others talk about how used tundras are hard to come by an prices are high right now. I'm curious is this across the board for all used car / trucks or is Tundra even more so? Reason I ask is I saw a used Tundra down the road on a chevy dealer lot. It's an 18 SR5 crew max 4x4 with 44k . They want $47000 for it... I got my 17 with 50 k miles granted it's not a crew max but basically same truck a year older for 29k just last fall ...Maybe it's a typo.. But even 37K would be high IMO.. Or is the market really that crazy right now .

Some people were saying they were getting offers of more than they paid for theirs a years later. Maybe they marked it high to leave room for negotiation. $47k for an 18 SR5 with 74k is way too high. I didn’t pay that much for my 18 limited new in 2018.

I suspect it has to be a typo at 47. Thats approaching used Diesel territory . But even if it was meant to be listed at 37.. I guess what goes through my head is. If they are offering huge trade in values it would be a good time to trade. Unless all vehicle are being marked way up...

My truck is a 2019 SR5 Crewmax TRD Off Road, and my MSRP was $47K new. Before any negotiations it was at $41K.

OP, They either mislabeled it or they are crazy.

Wow. With pricing like that my '20 CM SR5 4x4 with 2,800 miles should list for about $80,000. Any interested buyers?

The used car market is a bit high right now due to covid and they extra $600 a week people were getting. In February my little 2013 Miata Club was worth $12.5k, in August, I sold it for 14.5K first day.

I’ve been looking for a second vehicle and the whole used car market is insanely inflated right now. I’ve decided to hold off until values level back out again.

Trucks (most cars too) are a type of "mini house." Hardly anyone buys them for all cash and walks away with the title. They finance. So, again like a house, it's all about the payment. And with interest rates this low, the base price can be high, so that "the payment" is in the sweet spot. A LOT of science goes into it. Human behavior is predictable.

It's always been this way to some extent. But when interest rates are this low........whew.

All used cars have seen an uptick in value, trucks even more.

I had every intention of buying a used truck. When 3 year old 2wd SR5s with 30,000+ miles were listed at $35,000 or more, I ended up buying new.

Current Carvana offer on my 2013 4.6 DC with 97K miles is 18.2K. So, yes there is a demand.

I dont think the values are that great TBH.

I just got a KBB instant cash offer and trade in value, both were not very good.

I just traded in a 2015 tundra 4.6L 4x4, under 45k miles. I bought it used 3 years ago for $27,500, and dealer gave me $27,000 for trade-in. The dealer then listed it for 36,000 and it disappeared off their web site (assuming sold) 2 weeks later.

Thats just insane. I looked up the value for my truck, a 2014 4.6L 4x4 and upper end of trade in is $21k which is more than i paid.

It's the whole used car market.
I paid what I'm sure is too much for mine.

My '19 Grand Sport Corvette... paid 54k new about 1.5 years ago; I could get 60 for it now without much effort.
It won't last forever; supply will catch up soon enough.

I’m shocked at the prices for any decent used truck right now. It’s ridiculous. There’s only a single used Tundra in the Toledo are and it’s been beat. No new ones available either.

I've been looking at buying a used Tundra. One that caught my eye is a 2017 SR5 CM (30,000 miles) with TRD Off Road package. The dealer is asking $38,225. Is that totally crazy? I know the used car/truck market is crazy right now but it's hard to find a 4X4, four door truck with a V8 for much less. Just figured I'd ask the experts here before contacting the dealer.

There are so many different options that can push the prices up it's hard to tell off of just the year, trim, and cab. Is that the 5.7 V8 or the smaller (4.6 I think?) engine? Bench seat or console? Stuff like that will all affect it.

For perspective my 2019 SR5 CM 4x4 with the TRD OR Package and the 5.7 engine had an MSRP of $47,XXX, rebate and dealer internet price had it down to $41,XXX to start with brand new.

Up to you if want to pounce on it, but I personally would wait if at all possible. I think prices will start coming down next spring/summer. I could be completely wrong, though. If you need the truck now, then I don't think it is a terrible deal for the current times. Obviously I'd try to get them lower if I could, but it is worth whatever somebody is willing to pay for it.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. It’s the 5.7l with center console.

I can’t say that I NEED to get a vehicle now but based on some recent life changes I'll need to get something with more space soon.

I was thinking something similar regarding the price: it’s a bit high but I’ll try to start with a lower offer and see where it goes. I know what I’m willing to pay and if they get there then cool. If not, I’ll wait for the next one to come along

I have to assume part of this is due to how well Toyotas hold their value. Then again, I may be giving them too much credit.

It's true that Toyotas hold their value, but used vehicle values are pretty severely inflated due to the low supply. Basically, when covid shut everything down the demand for vehicles never changed, but the supply dried up in a hurry, and now we have markups on vehicles that range from painful all the way to obscene.

As previously stated, if you can possibly hold out until next spring or summer I would do that. I'd also be making sure that the truck has the 38 gallon tank.

I paid $32,500 otd for my spotless 4x4 TRD OR inferno with 10k miles in late May after the shit had hit the fan already.. i can send the bill of sale if you want it for leverage. I lucked out where it was at a Chrysler dealership and they didnt want it or know any better by the sound of it. $38k+ is insane. A brand new 2020 is $2k more than theyre asking around here and the lots are trickling back in with trucks. (Its not very peopley here either though for buying so..)

Yeah, holding off sounds like it may be the best move. It does have the 38 gallon tank, btw. Overall seems like a good truck. Only issue seems to be the price.

$32,500 sounds like a great price! I was going to try and get this truck for $35,000 but now even that sounds high, lol.

The market really is crazy right now. 2018 CMs in my area go for low to mid 40s. A 2020 crew max goes for just a little more. I just paid 34 for a 2016 CM which I think is overpriced but that’s just the market right now. I did get above KBB for my 2015 DC which was nice. For comparison, my dad bought a 2018 CM in June for 37k. I’m still pissed about this.......
