Heads up to anyone thinking about ordering a topper from ARE. I placed and order through LineX on July 7th and I am still waiting 11 weeks later. Anyone else experiencing the same length delays?

My buddy just got two at his shop with a 5 week turn around time. They were simple models with not a lot of options.

The one I ordered is color matched and I put a $1,000 down on it. When ordered they quoted 4-6 weeks. I'm not in a huge rush but double the length of quoted time is a little excessive. They said employees are required to work in isolation and that is causing the delay. As far as I know they are built in Ohio and I haven't heard of any serious COVID outbreaks there. According to LineX the top was either released or due to be released for shipping on 9/14 but still no update. Now I have to call again tomorrow and say WTF, somebody give me some accurate information.

I just got my Century last month. I had to wait just over 8.5 weeks from time of order to time of install. I upgraded to Windoor Sliders, Headliner, Roof Rack and front slider/removable window. I also did not get alot of info right off the bat but, Century had sent my dealer a couple emails saying some of the options I ordered were not available for the model I picked. When it arrived everything I wanted was on it. The manufacturer called my dealer twice to let them know they were super backed up and it could be close to 12 to 13 weeks before it got shipped.

Doesnt sound like your dealer is getting any info though. Or they are not passing it along to you. I would definitely give them a wtf call...

Cancel the order and look elsewhere, I get it about the delays tho due to covid, I know most appliances are backordered until next spring or out of stock no eta as to when orders will be filled. Dont even get me started on lumber LOL...

Anyway good luck, I was thinking about getting a top for my tundra but was told same thing about lead times.

We’re experiencing serious lead times with a lot of products right now at work. I’ve spent the last month or two hoarding material and refusing to let other branches pull from my inventory. It’s getting pretty bad across the board.

I have a big AV system I am trying to get together to install out of town as soon as I can gather the parts.

Who would have thought there is a backlog of Sonos product?

    Made in China of course.

If you cancel your order and look around as suggested then you are just getting in the back of the line again just like the first time arent you?
That is if the dealer really ordered it when he says he did?

This is just an odd year to try to get almost anything done.

Dang not what I wanted to hear. I am about to pull the trigger on getting a custom ARE cap. Thanks for the heads up. Guess I'll keep scouring the secondary market.

Too far in to it to cancel now. Color matched with all the options like windoors, carpeted liner, led light strips with hinge switches, removable cab side window, and roof rack tracks. I'm not even sure I could cancel at this point but I agree that if I did I would be right back at the end of the line and end up waiting another 12 weeks. I still have a month and a half before snow and as long as I can get it by then I'll try to be patient. I'll give an update this evening after I call them.

Surprise, surprise, surprise! I called to check the status today around 1:00 and "it just came in". Hopefully it just came in and hasn't been sitting there for a week. They were pretty accommodating and said it could be fitted as soon as Friday but, unfortunately I have two appointments I can't reschedule at work. Monday it is.
I did ask if it had been inspected for damage because it would be an ugly situation if I take the day off Monday, drive an hour each way, and then find something wrong. I was assured it is perfect.
Stay tuned for photos Monday night!

Well the topper is on but Murphy's Law came with it. If you read the post above you will see that I asked Line X to inspect the topper before I took a day off work and drove the hour from my home. I was assured it was perfect. I dropped the truck off at 10 am and they expected it to take about two hours. At 11:45 I got a call saying it was all set to pick up so I went back for the pick up and at first sight it looked great. It looks awesome on the truck and I couldn't be happier. I pop the door and immediately notice the front window is not the sliding, tilt out option I ordered. So, back inside I go and say, "we have a problem". My work order is sitting on the counter and I can see the option clearly listed. Somehow A.R.E put the wrong window in it and nobody caught it at Line X from the inspection through the installation. After he was done blaming A.R.E. I explained that he was trying to send me out the door with the wrong product and they missed it despite me asking for an inspection. In the end the apologies came, I was told I didn't have to pay the balance until the window was replaced and I would be given a discount for the trouble.

The question is, what is a fair discount for the trouble? I have my own idea but what are your thoughts?

Does the window remove at all or it fixed in place? If it can be removed and reinstalled even tho its not what you wanted, can you keep it and ask for anywhere from 10-20% is acceptable imo.

The window they put in is not removeable for cleaning, etc. but can be uninstalled when the correct window comes in. I was told the replacement should be in by the end of the week. All I can say is that I'm not holding my breath. They do have some incentive to get it in and replaced because I owe about $1,400.

I think the sliding tilt out window was about $110 option and not counting the initial purchase I will have four hours of driving time and three hours of waiting plus fuel by time it is corrected. I think a discount of 10-20% off of the original price is right in the wheel house.

looks great. have them waive the upgraded window option. I don't think you will get more. sometimes when they replaced it's even worst as far as being waterproof so check their work once done.

Ah I would wait for the replacement window then, and still ask for a discount, esp after you asked for it to be inspected and was told all was good to go

The windoors make the bed much more accessible for sure. My last truck and top didn't have that style.

I hear you on the lock and considered going with the double since the others are double. I thought it would be a little easier with a single knob. As my father always said, locks only keep honest people honest. If someone wants in they are getting in with one or two locks.

Me personally and having pretty much the same setup you have I would keep it as is and ask them for a discount and refund of that option. I have the removable slider window up front and for as much as it was for an upgrade its not worth it to have. I never use it. The slide is only half the size of the window and removing it creates a loud howling sound from the wind traveling the gap. Heres my setup:20200724_173014.jpg 20200724_173029.jpg

Given that it's a $110 option, 10-20% would be pretty generous, in my opinion. You're still getting the window, you just have to wait a bit.

Let them replace the front window you originally ordered. Easy to swap out and to make it water tight again. I've had toppers with a single and double lock. When it comes to breaking in....makes no difference imho. Have them waive the $110 add on, $120 for gas.....look around inside their showroom, there's usually some kuul accessory goodies that might catch your eye...pick something out and tell them you want it up to $200 in value. It's marked up bigtime anyways:thumbsup:

    Sharp looking truck!

I like the tilt out option for cleaning purposes and the sliding window for my fury girl. Have you ever used one of those bladders that fit between cab and topper? I've often thought about trying one to create an air tight pass through so windows could be left open for the dog.

The ARE does fit fairly close but you are in MN were it can get quite "chilly" at times. A non drill bladder would be quite handy. Ask the topper dealer to install one for you and call it even steven???
With the correct front window of course!

She's a good girl but she liked my 04 Tundra much better because she could bring in as much mud and dirt as she liked. It was also easier to jump in and out of.
