Forgot I also added some Rago bed brackets to store some Rotopax and my Waterport.

I have a couple Questions for you as I have a 2020 double cab, build #733 GFC in waiting.

    1. what is the height of your GFC above your bed rails to top of GFC. If you have bars, what is that additional height, are they the beef bars?
    2. Also do you have the fin on top of your Tundra, just spotted a video on line see below that he couldn’t get his mounted due to the fin clearance?
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VXpG4kAw5Ow

sounds like they may build a taller GFC and I only have 10” from top of truck to garage header. So depending on your measurements I may be parking out side if they make the GFC taller which I’m not excited about having it be taller..

    thanks

    1. The camper sits about 29.25” above the top of my bed rail.

The bars I have are the DIY rack made out of 8020 aluminum parts and it sits about 1.5” off the top of the camper.

    2. There’s about a 3” gap at the closest point toward the front of the camper. It may even be a little less than 3” since the top of the cab has a bit of an arch to it in the center.

After my install my truck no longer fit in my garage. I was a little bummed but I’m debating adding another garage that it will fit in someday.

This is perfect! I have an 8’ or 96” so if they make the GFC taller by about an inch I would still have clearance to fit in garage.

    Sweet setup and documented build!

    thanks

    update 4/15

FYI 2020 Tundra will be about 1-2 taller to clear shark fin

Hello Adam what is the width of your 80/20 rack setup? Also did you use 10 series 1”x2”?

Finally how did you mount the solar panel?

    Thanks for the information!

I ordered the bars cut to 59” since that’s what GFC states is the width of their Beef Rack bars. They were slightly too narrow, by less than 1/4”, but if you mount it with the bolts to the side plates loose you’ll have no problem getting it to fit over camper roof.

I ordered part number “1020-Black” from 8020.net . Those are the black 1” x 2” slotted rail. You will have to tap the two holes on either end of the cross bars in order to mount to the side plate. I just ordered some 1/4”-20 socket head cap screw 1” in length to mount cross bars to side plates.

I mounted the solar panel using some generic mounts from Amazon and orientated them so the panel sits on top of the bracket. I just used some t-slot nuts from 8020.net to secure to cross bars.

Do you have a parts list available for the DIY rack you made? Looking to do the same when I get my GFC

Pretty sic looking truck for sure. I have a white '17 Pro, and 1/2 of what you did I was looking into. I have a GFC on order, and couldn't decide if I wanted to color match my white for the panels, or go black. Thanks for the post as now I see I will go with black panels. I was also looking at adding some flat black to the front of the truck but the variations I was looking at were too much. I like the patch you have on top there. Does it help with glare on a bight day? I have a lot of those here in TX. Anyway, great post and thank you for documenting and sharing!

Thanks! Yea the white option that GFC offers doesnt match the Toyota white exactly, plus I think the black just looks better in my opinion. The black vinyl on the hood I just got off of eBay pre-cut to fit that spot. Id say it does help with glare to some degree.

Do you have the SST Pro or Wild peak Tires?
I got FNFNX rims and am trying to decide on which 285/75/18 i don't want anything too loud I dont do mudding mostly sandstone or desert.

We drive around exploring and sleep in the back in the shell too. I almost ordered a GoFast when the wait was 4 months but didn't want to wait. i tried to order the double cab pro in 2015 at 3 dealerships and ended up a year later giving up and getting the new Taco. Which I hated then dumped 20k into it anyway and still hated it. Got a new Duramax Denali and new Raptor and now back to a new Toyota Tundra.

I had Cooper STT Pro's in 295/70/18. I loved the way they looked on the truck and they performed great offroad. However, my truck is still my daily driver and most of the offroading I do isnt through deep mud. They also started to get pretty loud when they started to wear. I opted to go with the Falken Wildpeaks in 285/75/18. Theyre slightly taller, skinnier, and the biggest reason was weight savings. I think each tire weighs 3-5 lbs less than my coopers did. I've really liked them so far. Theyre quiet on road, my gas mileage went up since switching to them, and they still have a somewhat aggressive look on the truck. I also discovered that Falken offers a 1-year road hazard protection plan at no charge to all Wildpeak AT3 tires. I blew one out on the highway after hitting something when they were only a couple months old and they sent a replacement at no cost. They also have a 55k mile tread wear warranty which was a plus.

Hey one more question if I may. Which Bushwhacker flares did you go with? I what to keep the mods understated but functional and the tack you have taken is along the lines of what i am looking at. While my truck will get dirty and off road for hunting and camping, I don't see myself running rubber much larger than stock. So for me I would like to stay with the OE style vs the Extend a fender, but functionally will it suffice? Anyway, I viewed all the photos and could't tell which they were, so...can ya help a guy out?

They are the OE style ones. I originally went with that option so I could retain my mud flaps at the time but have since ditched them since I’ve gone up tire sizes. With my stock wheels, and a 3/4” spacer up front, the flares still keep most things from being flung up the side of the truck.

Sorry, I just built it as I went and kept trimming for a snug fit around all the non-flat space once the seat is gone.

Man, your truck is awesome. Please tell me how you did those storage compartments in the bed. I was looking at the decked system but I like what you did way better. I'm placing an order for a GFC soon and jealous of your setup.

I kind of just built the drawers as I went. Didn’t really draw up any plans, just cut pieces to fit around the odd shapes in the bed and made a frame out of 2x4’s then covered it using 1/2” higher grade plywood from Lowe’s. The drawer slide is just a couple pieces of HDPE plastic strips , I think that’s what it’s called. It’s just a very low friction plastic that will slide easily against wood or itself. Drawer slides over 3’ long are just too crazy expensive for me so I found this as an alternative. I think they work great they just don’t have any locking positions but I’m ok with that.

No problem, and thanks for the compliments on the truck. It’s definitely been a log journey to get here. I’ll have owned it for 5 years in October so it certainly wasn’t a quick build but I think I have it where I want it....at least for now lol.

I hear ya. I bought my 19 Pro in Oct 2018 and been modding it since. Waiting on my Rigd supply tire swing to ship out, then I'll put my deposit down on the GFC and wait for almost a year for it...lol. I'm definitely gonna bug ya again once I get it, to see how you did your solar panels to control a fridge and lighting in the bed. I want to build this thing to where I can just about live in it.

Hey, quick question. I noticed that you have the Falcons listed on your build out, but you have some Coopers in the later photos. I am almost done with the stock Michelins and was looking at the Coopers. Do you like them, and how are they performing?

A couple updates to the camper build. I added the Matt Gecko LED light kit to the camper. Includes both lower and upper light sets. Really nice quality and complete kit.

I also grabbed a set of the Shittco blocks during his recent re-stock. Super simple piece but very convenient when you want to keep the rear flap open.

    Thanks for the update.
Emulation being the greatest complement, my truck will look very similar to yours. Thanks again.
FYI, I finally ran the stock Michelin’s out of tread and re-shoe’d with Cooper AT3 kicks just before my elk hunt. (now)
Big difference off road for sure.
Hopefully picking up the GFC while I am here in MT. On week 17 or 18 of the “12” week build.
I was truly hoping to have it before this week’s hunt.
Would be a bummer to drive to TX and then back for the install.

@MNTX TRDPro I was in the same boat as you, I tried to go as long as I could before getting rid of the stock Michelin’s but my eagerness got to me before the tires were wore out lol. And if you don’t get your GFC on this trip that just means another Montana trip in the future! I’m starting to plan a trip out there next summer to et my hinges replaced with the new ones.
