I don't see anybody getting "angry", I see people discussing their differing opinions. Isn't that kind of the whole point of a forum?

yes, fluid goes through the puck first, it is the primary heater/cooler. If fluid is over 180 degrees after exiting the puck, the thermostat on the transmission diverts the fluid up front to the secondary cooler.

The thermostat and secondary cooler is what Toyota removed in 2019 from the towing package. Now all trucks have the old non-towing package setup of only the primary heater/cooler.

Chill out man. No need to get upset. This thread is about his atf fluid. Not the misperception that his warranty is void because he added a cooler.

    Wow, that's beyond amazing.

I'd say having a SC definitely affects the transmission in some way, even a considerable tire size change does, but hey, I'm not Toyota, nor an engineer, so good for you man.

Like you said, either other people (many) has had crappy dealer experiences, or at least looks like you have a pretty nice dealer that takes care of their customers, cheers!

Looking forward to the fluid analysis, thanks for the forthcoming information.

I have been going back and forth on getting a cooler, I keep vehicles until the end of life. I found a local transmission shop willing to install for 250 bucks ( I don't trust myself), so I think it is a yes to add.:threadjacked:

Let's hope Blackstone has a good sample size for this fluid. Since this is the OEM fill, it will likely have a higher metal content from the break-in cycle. Not saying "higher" as in bad, just more than maybe what you see with a 2nd fill. If Blackstone has a good history for this fluid, they'll be able to determine if any higher wear metals are from fluid breakdown or "normal" for a factory fill.

If the fluid shows it has broken down, I'm going to raise hell at my dealer and then likely install a cooler. I'm curious to see if any "add a cooler" opinions change if the report comes back looking good...

As someone who really doesn't have a horse in the race at this point (I currently do not tow a ton) I am pretty in the middle. Good results = leave things as they are. Bad results = probably get the cooler before I have the need to start pulling stuff. Will be interesting!

They have at least 6 samples of WS that I have sent in. They also have countless others from the FJ/4rnr/taco and even the rav4 forums from what I have seen.

Both my FJ and Taco showed high wear metals on first drain due to breakin, but diminished over drain/refills as you expect. Copper will be sky high after the cooler install, but just put that in your notes to them and they will confirm it.

This is what my fluid looked like as it came out at 18,000 miles with some towing.3700E6F4-ACCC-4FD1-A830-91511B8D0972.jpg A52D3E6A-E85B-43B4-9473-CDF8BDC4EACB.jpg Only driven home from the dealer today. Red is the pan blue is torque converter. Way better than 235 pan and 250 torque going up the same hill. 67 and misty out.

Installed remote start, throttle controller, transmission oil cooler, front and rear TRD sway bars and K&N air filter.
Hi everyone, I've been following this discussion. I bough a 2019 Tundra the beginning of July. It is a 4.6 RWD and had 17600 miles. Since following the threads, I hooked up my scan tool to monitor the ATF temps. Normal driving around town the ATF temps were running between 200f to 215F and I saw it hit 220F also. My transmission has the warmer on the side of it. I installed a trans cooler on Monday and flushed the transmission first before hooking up the lines. I used about 3 gal. of fluid. I using a full sync. ATF replacement for the WS fluid. My average ATF temp. is now 150F. If I down shift while going up a hill, the TC temp gets to about 180F while the pan oil is 150F. As soon as the TC locks, the temp. drops back to 150F. I have not towed anything as yet, but I do have an enclose trailer that I trailer my motorcycle in. The truck had 23000 miles when I did the flush and install the cooler. Here is the color of the fluid that came out.20200923_120243.jpg 20200923_120243.jpg 20200923_120243.jpg 20200923_120233.jpg

Need to hold it up to a light, Trans fluid looks dark in a 2L bottle.

Unless you've been destroying your truck, the color "loss" is just the pigment fading out. No way you've zorched your fluid that quickly. This might turn out the same as modern engine oil...the color of the oil has nothing to do with the state of the oil.

    Thanks for posting that pic...

Yea, the fluid is fine. Just cant tell the color unless the fluid is thin or back lit by a light. I did not pour any brand new fluid into a 2 liter bottle but think the color would look the same.
But this bottle is what was in the pan after replacing the rubber all purpose hose initially installed with the cooler with transmission hose. Most of the volume is the 1 quart added to the fill hole that was returned thru the check hole a few mins later. Truck has 1600 miles on it, 300 of the more recent miles were towing a 5k pound trailer (pre cooler install).

I would say the “smell” on ATF tells more than “color”. I had a 01’ Honda odyssey awhile back and the transmission has no filter nor cooler. The first time I flushed ATF on Odyssey at around 45k miles, it looked dark and smelled like rotten egg.

The odyssey’s original transmission went at around 110k miles and the transmission shop put in a remanufactured one for $1200 with one-year/12000 miles warranty. The replacement didn’t even last for 6 month, the shop put another remanufactured one in and threw in the atf cooler for free. I guess they don’t want to see me again!

That interpretation ignores use of the comma after “braking”. You think Toyota expects everyone towing with a Tundra to know when the truck is engine braking? I’d bet the majority of drivers don’t know what engine braking is...
