didnt know where to post or ask this, sorry for my dumbness but are the differential breathers only good if I 4x4, or is it a useful every day good mod to have!

What are they actually good for and do!

Thanks and I’m still learning!

If you could possibly drive into water above the height of the pumpkin there’s a chance water could enter the existing vent. Elevating the breather vent limits that risk

Do you plan to submerge your 2wd with river crossings etc where the water level is above the top of the differential? Diff breather mod is to move where the factory breather higher up so there is no water intrusion when crossing deeper bodies of water.

When ‘Narlens and Houston flooded recently lots of vehicles were submerged. Driving on paved roads with water to the mirrors was not uncommon. Ask @Law323

Even if you don't plan on submerging your rear diff, the OEM breather is susceptible to getting clogged with mud, preventing it from properly venting the diff. Some have reported damaged axle seals due to a clogged breather. Doing the diff breather mod could help prevent this. Or you could just regularly check the oem breather (pull up on it and twist to free any caked on mud). I checked mine for the first time a couple weeks ago when I noticed an axle leaking. It was fused with mud.

I just did mine last week, and it cost about $30 in parts. That was with a new breather. You can do it using the breather that is already in there...just need to buy the union and probably 8-10 ft of tubing, zip ties...that's about $20.

Yep, axle fitting, hose, and zip ties, can be had for about $20. I recently added a viair compressor intake air filter for about another $12 and got rid of the crappy OE one.

Yeah, @geno0506 I was kicking myself when Gonzales (a town 30 mins north of New Orleans) flooded (worst flooding in 100-300 years), along with Baton Rouge just a year and a half ago. Like @gosolo said, I had to drive through water past my headlights a few times to get to family and friends. (I have a 3/1). Luckily, no water got into my rear diff. But I know I won't be that lucky a second time. I would definitely do it. It’s so useful and cheap, that anyone worth their salt would say it’s a perfect “better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it” kind of insurance!

Could you please send me a link where you got that intake air filter from? And what barb fitting you have on the bottom.
