newbie question - can you apply beadmaker to the top of Griots 3in1 or is that unnecessary? I assume 3in1 is the final top coat and nothing else is needed?

I haven’t tried it to see if it bonds well with it yet, but no reason you couldn’t try it. I do know that Beadmaker bonds well with Hydro2 and Gyeon Wetcoat, but not at all with Jescar Powerlock.

3-in-1 is designed to be a standalone product and works very well by itself. It’s not necessary to top it, but Beadmaker does leave a glossier and slicker finish, so in theory you could see some cosmetic benefit. Worst case scenario is the Beadmaker just doesn’t take and wipes off. Beadmaker is cheap enough that you’re not really out much if it doesn’t work.

thank you! I haven't looked around this side of the forum too much, but is there a standard walk through of the steps needed to detail a vehicle (or what order products should go on)? Out here in the AZ sun, it sits outside all day, so I need to start protecting it (purchased in April).

For a rig that already has CQuartz coating, would this be the go to product? Or stick with Reload? Or Beadmaker?

I’ve been washing with Mothers CMX wash since coating, and have been really happy with it.

Here's a link to a thread on this forum that gives a pretty good outline of the process:

I was able to put on a coat yesterday and was very impressed. It was a cool day with a high of 60 so the applying/buffing was very easy. Today I will put on a second coat. Getting the truck prepped for the upcoming winter months sorta sucks. Next weekend will be Fluid Film time.

27 degrees this morning. Frost in the ditches. All sorts of record lows in the area. I have to let it warm up before I start detailing the truck.

I've been following this thread and finally picked up a bottle this weekend. On Sunday I thoroughly washed our Rav4 and then applied the 3-in-1. I have to say, I wasn't blown away. I last waxed the vehicle back in May so it hasn't been that long. The paint didn't get as smooth to the touch as I normally experience when using traditional wax. I can feel a lot of imperfections when I run my hand across it. Maybe I just didn't have the right expectations. I'm not disappointed, I just didn't have quite the same experience as some have posted here.

Its a sealant, it doesn't remove imperfections. You would need to clay or polish for that.

Ok. I clayed the vehicle last year. If I were to clay again, and then immediately follow with the Griots you think I'd see much better results?

Yes, clay will help smooth the paint out. The 3 in 1 doesn't have fillers like a paste wax might, so unless you buff out scratches you will still see and feel those more than you will with a filling paste wax

Yes x2 with @Pudge with a little more advice.

This sealant like all things needs to be done right and will save you a lot of time in the future. There is no magic lil bottle of stuff that takes care of all things and this product is designed as the last step. I would

    wash
    Decon with ironX
    Clay with griots speed
    Wash
    Polish if need be
Wipe down with eraser or alcohol I prefer eraser it smells much better.
    Then apply 3-1 inside garage
Move vehicle into sun for a bit
Put back in garage (don’t let it get wet)
    Final cure overnight
You can reapply second coat the next day which is recommended. (I don’t because it’s tough to keep a car in lockdown for two days)
Let it sit inside again over night
    Enjoy

3-1 feels sticky after application even an hour or two later because it needs to cure so that’s what you are dealing with.

    3-6 month maintenance
Wash with ceramic safe soap. CarPro reset is the jam.
    Wipe with eraser
    Apply 3-1
    Cure
No next day application is also fine.

If you keep up maintenance you should be on your way to good paint protection for a long time. Stay away from auto washes and always use the appropriate soap. Spiked punch for a waterless is great to have to do light cleaning depending on your level of detail

All of this is spot on. A wax will smoothen out the paint some where a sealant doesn’t. Decontaminating your paint will make your paint pop a good bit more, and help protection last longer. I clay my vehicles once a year at least.

can you apply a ceramic coating before the Griots 3-1? i see above you mentioned it worked well with cquartz

also, is washing every couple weeks with reset needed for maintenance? If so, i assume it will wash off the 3-1 (but not the underlying ceramic coating) and I'll need to reapply?

My truck has cquartz and I used 3-1 on top of it last maintenance. I used it instead of reload this time along and I try to do this maintenance every 3-4 months. I only use reset for my wash of all vehicles. 3-1 does not seemed to affected by my wash. I do apply elixir every few weeks. But it’s not necessary.

Reset isn’t going to wash off the 3-1. It’s probably the best soap you can use to maintain any coating. You can definitely apply a ceramic beforehand if you want. I’m not a huge fan of ceramic coatings, but that’s a different subject.

Based on this thread I purchased and applied 3-In-1 about 2 months ago. I was very much impressed.

Sadly, I only seem to get around to washing my truck about once every 1-2 months. Also, I park my truck outside.

Is there a downside, other than time and money, to apply a coat of 3-In-1 after every washing?

I’m starting to lean with War on this coating thing. I’m a detail hobby guy so I like the process of cleaning and protection of my vehicles. I don’t know if I would bother coating the truck again. For a client that takes limited care of the vehicle I can see advantages of coatings but I don’t believe it’s necessary on a ride that gets properly maintained.

Not at all. May be easier to just use it as a drying aid.

For the labor and expense, it’s just not worth it to me. Especially since you still need to refresh it every six months or so. Other than durability, I don’t see where a ceramic coating performs any better than this product or others. Not to mention the headache you’ll have if you screw up a ceramic.

    I haven’t noticed any. 2 caveats though:

1: I use a Nanoskin Fine Grade Mitt, not real clay. This may be why.
2: My eyesight has gone to shit, so maybe I just don’t see them.

I feel your pain man. We FINALLY dropped to the high 90's this week. Been well over a 100 for months now. It sucks!

Also, you guys talked me into trying this stuff. I LOVE my Bead Maker and use it like a quick detail spray about every 3 weeks when I wash the truck. I do get lazy at times so, a bit extra longevity would be nice.
