I just took over the lease on an ‘18 Tundra and it is doing the same thing. Only when it sits for a day or so but sounds awful. Dealer wants $170 just to look at it.

My tundra stopped doing this since I started driving it as a daily driver.

Years ago I had a brand new 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix when I lived in Mandeville, LA. (HOT summers) Shortly after getting it the A/C sounded as if a leaf was caught in the vent. Whistling and whirring sound. Dealer took it apart and could not find anything.
    It kept making the sound....
Took it back to the dealer. Come to find out, the blower had a bad bearing and that was making the noise. The blower was new from the factory, but defective. Covered under warranty.
Yours may be something, factory installed, that is defective and causing your Tundra noise.
    Best wishes solving it.

My 2020 1794 does that exact same thing if it sits longer that 24 hours. Has anyone that has this noise actually had a failure develop? Sounds like this has been an issue for at least a few years now.

Just happened to me for the first time today. Started an account just to comment on this. My Tundra is 1 month old tomorrow and only has 1,650KM on it. I’m going to keep an eye on this thread to see if we get a diagnosis. I’ll try recording mine tomorrow and see if it happens again. Same conditions as what I’ve seen here - truck parked overnight, started up when it was hot out and it was running for less than 10 seconds when I turned the AC on and heard an alarming noise. Metallic, almost like something was caught in a fan for a second or 2.

Mine just made that noise today after it’s had been sitting for two days. I’ve got a 19 with 53,000 miles on it. I just replaced the blower motor also. Had a 05 FX4 and I had to replace the transmission @53k so I will take the hit on the blower motor.

Mine was doing this right off the lot. I haven't noticed it since it's a daily driver. Seems like it only does it when it's been sitting for a couple of days.

My truck started making this noise about a month ago. Will mention it to the dealership next time I get the oil changed along with the other recalls.

I have this issue as well. It has to be sitting overnight in hot weather. I left it with the dealer for over a week and got nothing as they could not reproduce the issue. The service tech said at least it's documented early so if something happens down the line I should be protected.

I have the same issue on my 2020. Happens once or twice a month. When it does happen it’s always after sitting over night and the first start the next day.
I’m surprised at all the noises this truck makes. ABS clunk, the AC Clunk, the TRD skid plate creak. A bit disappointed in Toyota. My 97 4Runner solid as hell to this day.

Mine would squeek every time I turned on the AC. I changed the belt tensioner and the squeek was gone. I guess I got lucky.

Add me to the list. My 2020 TRD Off Road makes this God awful noise when engaging the A/C right after a cold start. Did it this afternoon after sitting for 48 hours outside. 4200 miles on it been doing it since it was new. Seems like longer it sits the worse the noise gets to a point. Going to ask them to document it at the first oil change and I'm going to video the noise with the hood open after it sits a couple days at some point soon.

My 19 and others here have this happen from time to time when it sits for a period of time. I don't recall anyone here bringing it in and having the dealership confirming the noise since it's so intermittent. I hate the noise myself, but until i hear it completely explode, i live with it.

Extremely, I wanted to know if any dealership has acknowledged this, mine refuses. Most embarrassing thing I've heard in a brand new vechicle. Happens to me every single morning. The warp in the dash is another. Pulling to the right they can't fix.

Had the same problem. Took my 2020 1794 to dealer and they were able to replicate the noise after letting it sit a few days. Mine did not do it every time the compressor started but only when the truck sat a day or too. They ended up replacing the compressor and clutch under warranty. Fixed the problem so far! I sent the service guys the video posted here and they knew exactly what to look for. They agreed a new $50k+ truck should not be making that noise and ordered parts right away. Hope this helps you all!

I hadn’t run the A/C in while with the cooler weather, but I left it on defrost and it made the noise again after having been started from a couple of days of inactivity and it definitely wasn’t above 100F here in Canada. I caught the sound on video, but it’s not nearly as loud when outside vs being in the cab. The engine noise probably cancels some of it out. I’ll try and convert the video from iPhone so I can include it here.

I have been letting mine sit for several days in hopes of catching its unholy startup noise on video, as it sounds like rocks in a blender. That loud clunk noise happened on my 2020 while driving at low speeds some months ago and the engine faltered for a moment. I've been mainly driving my old truck, so had forgotten about that... I think I suspected old gas at the time, given how much it sits, but I'll check into this!

The nearest dealership wanted to charge me for the scheduled maintance, regardless of the 7 year ECP, since I didn't buy the truck from them, so I am not optimistic about them helping with anything. Hopefully with a video in hand I can at least get the audible mfg defects sorted. They didn't hear the front driver spring binding on low speed corners either, maybe I should get a nanny cam for the vehicle's interior...

I have the same issue in my 2020 with 4100 miles. Brought mine to the dealer and they said it is normal. The system builds up pressure and that is the sound it makes when it releases it. Doesn’t sound like that to me, same clunking noise as stated above. It is documented now, but I don’t think it is normal.
