You see- now you went and did it. Got thinking about the regear and the rear locker again. Your setup is clean dude. Love it!

Gears made a huge difference, just add 1000 rpm to everything. The AC works better, i live in Salt lake and spend most of my time on hills or in mountains or towing. No freeway commute. Getting 12mpg it was at 9 . But thats better than my Tacoma, and I'm heavy footed, the locker helps with tire spin with the lower gears and traction control i would hit regularly even stock.

Looks good and getting all the bells and whistles, but honestly after replacing my stock leafs I think you’re missing out on a huge performance gain after I switched and the difference was phenomenal. Doesn’t have to be Deavers or Alcan custom. I got Dobinsons And sure icon performance is great too.

I had Dakar on my taco so squeaky once the snow and salt and sand gets in them i even took the packs apart sand blasted and used por15 on them . I cant go any higher in the rear until King makes my custom length rear shocks I ordered 5 months ago. Then i will do a spring pack. I only really want another inch in the back.

I have been running a simple Ready lift 3"/2" lift for the past 5 years without any issues. Running 296/65's which calculate out to about 36" I have chopped the cab mount brackets and done a little to the fender inner liners, it rubs a little with a full left or right turn, but its not bad.

Its way better on hills and in the city. The ac works better with a little more engine speed. The auto downshift for breaking on hills works better . I mostly do not do freeway unless I am going camping, The rpm are at 2100 at 75mph on the freeway and it does not gear search while towing. In the city it gets 2mpg better than before but -probably better for people who drive less aggressively than me. Its way faster now. Reminds me of how trucks used to be 20 years ago before they dumbed them down made them soft $60k+ luxury vehicles.

@PeakIT Thank you for the response. And I think I agree with you on the trucks from years ago! I built a rock crawler out of my 1988 Toyota pick up, 36" tires, arb locker and 5.29 gears. I am curious, are there options to re-gear to a little ratio, such as 4.56 or 4.88? If so, why did you choose 5.29s?

There are only two options for our current gen, 4.88 and 5.29. I recommend 4.88 if you are going to 35's tires and 5.29 for 37's. I do wish they made 5.10 or 5.13 to better balance performance and mpg with 37's.

i had a 2016 tacoma i regeared to 4:88 with 33s and it was perfect. (The Tacos i think have a higher final drive gear than the tundra?). Somewhere theres a chart (maybe Yukon gears?) So i went with 5:29 for my tundra with 35" . Most of my use is in the mountains 4800feet to 9000 feet altitude. I wasn't looking for factory mpg performance and sustained 75-100 mph speeds, but lower gear ratio. I don't use freeways much, if i had a long freeway commute I might have done 4:88 . Everyone has their opinions on this .I will most likely supercharge mine, and i believe the higher engine speed will make more linear power.. Ive had probably 20 regeared vehicles rock crawlers, race cars etc. 4:56 in my cj7 was way way low but it had a different transmission gear ratio and final drive ratio and dual transfercases . If you are in Utah come drive it.

Correct! 35s fit with no issues with proper wheel offset and alignment.

What is the offset? I think you may have been what I was looking for when I started this thread. I’ve also been thinking of swapping my 18’s to 17’s. Was thinking of starting a pros and cons thread on the subject of rim size.

From my understanding, +25 on 9 wide is ideal (with proper alignment of course).

    Icon has a 17x18.5 +25,
    https://www.tundras.com/threads/icon-alloys-17-5x150mm-six-speed-wheel.22729/

My rock warriors are 17x8 +50

IMHO, the only pro to a 18 vs 17 is one specific tire size... 285/75/18 which is a narrow 35". Otherwise I'm a 17" guy.

I have 18’s with +12 offset and don’t rub with 35’s. SPC UCA’s and the correct alignment makes a huge difference.

How are the BP51s treating you and wearing? Any leaks on the shock pistons? What's the rebuild time frame on these?! I have an Icon setup on my 4runner and had to rebuild them after 45k miles...tho they suggest every 15k if used for mudding and rock climbing...blew my mind!

    Edit: truck looks amazingly perfect!

Thanks! I like it too :)

So far so good. No obvious leaks, but I only have ~4k on them. I could soften the front up a little, but I have not messed with it yet. I have a bumper coming soon.

No idea on rebuild, but like any rebuildable shock I am sure they say 20k ish. But IMO it depends on use a lot. Mud on the shafts all the time wears seal faster etc.

I have considered this setup for awhile now since the majority of my driving is on pavement and part of me wants to put 295/75/20 but not sure if that would fit. Obviously some trimming would be involved. Since you went with a larger tire did you have to recalibrate the speedometer?

@PeakIT Thanks for the info. I never knew re-gearing would help with the MPG's on our trucks. I'm going to look into that now. I'm at about 9.68 city now with my lift & stock gears. I actually have a shop re-gearing our 71 Chevelle so hopefully I can get a deal going since he's doing work for me already.
