Great video. When I was growing up (pre-internet) my parents always had Time and/or Newsweek subscriptions. I distinctly remember an article from one of those magazines that talked about how you keep forests healthy by letting fires burn when ignited through "natural" means. Obviously you don't let it torch a town or even a group of homes, but once the risk to life and property is gone you let it run. We've known about it for years, but politics....

Got a good rain in this afternoon. We opened the windows and let the house breath. Felt great. Air isn't back to normal yet, but it dropped 70-80 AQI points today. Hopefully things are even better tomorrow.

Looks like the Portland area is below 50! That's amazing...

Yeah it’s getting better. We were between 200-450’ish earlier this week. As of right now we are at a 22! Hopefully this will carry over to everyone else.

Heard on talk radio today that firefighters could not access the fires that were burning before the windstorm. The story was that, due to strict access and environmental restrictions -- the firefighters were not allowed to use machinery / chainsaws to get close to the existing smaller fires in those wilderness areas. Then the windstorm came and they basically exploded.

We need to pay attention to the "law of unintended consequences".

I hope we learn a thing or two from the lessons of the last two weeks.

More rain yesterday and again this morning...air is perfect. Hope you OR folks are recovering as well. Did you get the rain too and did it help with the fires?

Between the past few days and some extra time from late last week, I've got enough comp time to take tomorrow off. Don't think I've worked a full 5-day week since August between a few vacation days and comp time. Maybe next week!

Sure wish there was some snow in the mountains...

I am counting down the days this week. Have all next week off for muzzleloader hunting. Can't wait to hike my ass off looking for deer. Need some mountain therapy.

I made a trip to Montana to meet some long time buddies from Michigan on their elk hunt. I was there Friday to Monday. We didn’t hear a bugle or see any elk but what a great time being outdoors and hunting with buddies. We put a good amount of miles on foot ranging from 7500-9000 feet. They did end up moving camp Monday and finally found some elk, so I hope they connect with one before they head back.

I've done all sections on a dual sport, and the first 4 in my 1st gen Tundra. Some of the sections will be a little overgrown, so you might end up with a few pinstrips, but for the vast majority of it, you're on fire/logging roads. Plenty of space. Tundra will be totally fine on the washout sections north of Ellensburg.

This one is part of a 3 knife commission. The guy wants to give knives to his 2 brothers and have one for himself. The other two will be straight steel, this Damascus blade is for him.
