ARK Splash Guards - Group Buy! 2007+ Tundra Guards

Installed mine over the weekend, pretty straight forward. I did notice an aluminum line that was right behind the 2 drill points (driver side). As others have stated, double check behind the area when're you drill. The metal line is slightly flexible so I just held it out of the way while I drilled and had no issue. Side-note, a few more push fasteners would be nice. I see in others pics they reused OEM fasteners like I did.

In this pic you can see the aluminum line right behind the hole I drilled, It is flexible so I moved it up while I drilled and kept to clear.

@TundraCoast 5 or so more clips than necessary should have been provided.

Did you have issues with clips breaking or?

I'm so pissed i missed this.

 

I had 1 ARK clip break and I was still short clips and had to reuse original clips. Not a big deal but more an FYI.

 

Mine came with 24 ARK push pins. Didn't do the install yet.

Okay so installed my liners today. Let me first say thanks to @14burrito and @Ark Splash Guards got the killer deal on these things.

the install was not straight forward as it seems. The instructions were a bit lacking as far as the forward most robots covered by the wheel well liner.

so on the passenger side there is one rivet which is behind a line for the air pump and all behind the wheel well liner.
What a complete bitch. So first I tried to losses the wheel well liner. Unless you want to spend 45 minutes removing it and breaking those factory lock clips just forget it. I removed the two clips closest to the splash guard and that created enough room. After that it seems the air pump hose is directly over the hole for the rivet. Since the new clips are longer than the factory ones it’s pretty frustrating trying to get that rivet in there. There is also a hard plastic guard that goes between the splash guard and flange metal that you have to keep in place while trying to hold the air pump hose out of the way, while trying to line up that plastic rivet, all while on your back working between the wheel well liner and the wheel well. I couldn’t do it. I tried for half an hour! I’ve installed everything on this truck from full suspension to full soundproofing and stereo system. This was the hardest thing I’ve ever tried to do. Also what happens when I have to remove them for a repair, I gotta do this all again? No F’n way in hell was I going to sandbag myself like that.
Whipped a zip tie in there and had it done in like 20 seconds. I’ll just clip the zip tie if I ever have to remove them. It will be much easier than trying to back out that burly pin they provide for fastening. I feel like they should have already thought of this for ease of install and future removal.
Also there should be some warning about drilling, on the passenger side there’s some wires and a bracket VERY close to the proposed drill locations for the splash guard, and on the driver side there’s an AC hardline directly behind the proposed holes. I tried my best but still ended up scraping the AC hard line a bit.

They recommend a 3/8” drill bit but after comparing that to the existing holes and the fasteners provided I opted for a 5/16” bit and feel it was the right choice.

I was also a clip short, nevermind that there should for sure be some extras.

despite all the issues and potential issues with install these look great and provide much increased protection over the stock guards.

 

I hope this doesn’t come off the wrong way, but, you made the most simple install as difficult and time consuming as possible.
Hope you didn’t do permanent damage to those lines.

The Tundra seems to have some inconsistencies at times.

The guards are nice.

 

Not taken the wrong way but not quite sure what you mean. I tried my best to get the pins where they were supposed to be but couldn’t. Other than that it went pretty smoothly. Did you have trouble with the pin behind the air hose?

ditto about the scratched line. Seems pretty superficial but still.

 

Not really.
15 min install. Was tight on the most forward passenger pin.
Just used some plastic body panel tools to access.

 

Man that would have been nice. The Air hose was literally a half inch over the hole. I couldn’t even get the rivit into the hole because It wouldn’t clear the hose, let alone line up with the hole in the body panel. I tried to pry it out of the way but I couldn’t even get enough space for the rivit.

 

It’s crazy how different these Tundras can be sometimes.
My lines were clear on both sides.
I’m weird about using drill stops as well.
So I rarely go too deep.

Years of dealing with track-bikes helps you learn all the little tricks to tight spots and push pins.

 

With all due respect I don’t see how It could have been my lack of skills or that I made the install hard. If the hole wasn’t covered it would have been a breeze but maybe my air pump hose was at a different position. Seems like the holes on my liners weren’t exactly over the existing holes as well. I kept having to kinda stretch the liner to get the holes in the right position.

I’ll knock it up to some variation on n placement of my components. I really tried everything. Sounds like that may be the case since your lines were clear. Obviously mine were right behind the drill spot. I wasn’t pressing hard but as soon the drill pierced the metal it shot in too fast for me to stop. I should buy some drill stops, I would have loved to have them.

After seeing the *BREATH DEEP* it seemed as though it was frustrating for you.
Seemed like a simple, straight-forward install to me.

Some others have mentioned encountering the line but just pushed it over.

Agreed. I was pretty twisted up because I spent so much time on that one rivit. Mine didn’t have much play in it and I couldn’t push it far enough out of the way for the rivit to line up. There also wasn’t much room for my one hand let alone my hand and another tool to keep pressure on the line. I would have loved to remove the liner but it had these square pressure clips that were a bitch to remove, which I’ve done but if that’s what it took then I’d rather just have the stock splash guards as I’m sure I’ll have to remove them for something one of these days and don’t want to have to remove the liner every time. I’m sorted now that I know the zip tie works. It’ll be a fast job that way.
not to mention the lines directly behind the drilled holes, not to mention not having enough hardware, not to mention the seemingly incorrect size of drill bit.

seemed like a lot for instructions which basically said,” take off the old ones and put on the new ones!” Lol
No mention of the wheel well liner being in the way either.

That 3/8 drill bit suggestion was too big to use included fasteners. I ended up using those square body fasteners for the wheel well liner. Small tap with hammer and got a great fit. I used the drill stops as suggested, and it worked great. I took front wheels off for easy access.
