TPMS on full size spare?

    Does anybody know what TPMS I should procure for my spare Method 701/ 295/70r17?
    Should I even get the TPMS for the spare? Thanks

    Can a 5th sensor even be configured to work? I know Toyota supports it on some models but Tundras only have 4 sensors stock.

    Yes. Tundras have 10 "slots" for sensors in their memory. You can have two full sets register to the truck, and it will only read the rolling sensors.

    I am not certain on prior years. However, on my ‘19 (18+ years) yes, a fifth sensor can “ride inside the spare”. I was informed by the stealership that my rig “was smart enough” to only register/read the signals of the “rolling” tires... I have now done three 5-tire rotations and absolutely no issues.

    I know that there are different angles for the sensors, but I don't know what one you need for those wheels. I'd reach out to Method to see what they recommend.

    Typically OEM alloy wheels AND aftermarket wheels will use a 20° angled sensor.

    OEM steel wheels will have 40° angled sensors.

    While some have used 40° sensors inverted in an alloy or aftermarket wheel, it is not recommended.

    I thought I had the part number for your sensor year... still trying to find it.

    I grabbed this off of TundraTalk - from DT: "The only time the Tundra O.E. sensors do not work with aftermarket aluminum wheels is when the sensors come out of the factory steel wheels (different valve angles)". I may get an OE sensor and have some place program it- or I may just say screw it and not worry about sensor in spare.

    I went ahead and did not have TPMS installed on spare. Matching spare in stock location and it feels good to know its there.

    what version of Techstream are you using? I just setup my buddies 2018 and it only has 5 slots. I would like to set mine up with 10 due to snow tires.

    I'm not using it at all. I may have been misinformed, but I believe it was in a thread here that it was stated 2019+ trucks had 10 slots for sensors.

    Wait a minute, i do a five tire rotation and have to bring my truck in every time to have it reprogrammed. My tire shop uses just a small hand held device that plugs into the obd2 then walks around the tires.

    Where can i go or what program can i get to do this. Would save me time off time waiting in line at the tire shop.

    @pickeledpigsfeet, @AzureNightmare, Adam, was just relaying what I had mentioned previously in another TPMS thread...

    I was told by the stealership in January of this year that up to "ten slots" for sensors for my '19 Tundra are possible. I have not confirmed this as of yet because I am just getting my winter "set-up" figured out. However, what I can confirm IS that I have done 3 five-tire rotations thus far WITHOUT incident. The truck has done exactly what the tech at the stealership said it would do for the rotations side of things...

    You shouldn't have to do anything. Just rotate and drive. Worst case you do the registering/programming that I THINK is in the manual.
    Can't remember which is for sensors and which is for pressure, but you either hold the button under your dash for 3 seconds, or you press it three times. Then drive above X speed and learns the ones that are spinning. My brain is mush right now, so definitely read up on the owner's manual.

    Just heard back from Method- they stated the torque is 85 -95 foot lbs with a minimum of 7.5 turns. This is for 17" methods on 3rd gen ( 14 x 1.5 et lugs). I will back them off 5 foot lbs from the current 100 ft -lbs they are torques at; not sure how much that matters but I damn sure don't want those lugs breaking. BTW- you dudes quasi hi-jacked this thread. Bahahahaha.

    Does it matter if the TPMS sensor is OEM for the spare? Was going to have Americas Tire put one of their TPMS in the spare. Does it matter if only the spare sensor is not OEM?
