Hey all, my parents bought a 2016 tundra and my dad is really wanting to take care of this truck since it was over priced per usual with this truck, for good reasons I guess. Anyways, I'm doing the oil changes. We're gonna run Motul 5w30 premium (expeeeensive). Me and my father have been doing the oil changes every 3,000 miles or 3 months cause that's the way it should be in this country. But I'm afraid we are stretching it out a little bit too much.. 3,000 miles is a lot of miles for a truck this huge, bulky. I might change it at 2500 miles just cause the oil is starting to smell and look a little bad. I used to taste my engine oil to see if I can taste excessive exhaust or smell. Anyways, what is your guys oci??? I would ask the fellows at Bob is the oil guy but they are some strange fellows

5k miles between oil changes is good. Doing it every 2500 or 3k miles will not gain you anything. If you are concerned, next time you change the oil send a sample out to have it analyzed. They will be able to tell you engine wear and recommended oil change intervals based on your truck and use.

I would probably stop licking the dipstick if I were you... or that old Tundra will probably outlive you.

Not sure about 16s, but now Toyota says every 10k or 5k for flex fuel. 2500/3000 is excessive, but I guess all you are wasting is your time and money.

Gonna echo what everyone else has said. If you are being cautious you could go with 5k intervals. Many on here do that. But the factory suggest 10k. You are literally burning through money at 2.5 or 3k

Um, used motor oil can cause cancer in lab animals, not sure about Humans....

I like 7500mile OCI's myself. That interval makes it harder to remember when is next, so I'm testing myself for memory loss and perhaps early onset dementia. I too use that expensive Mobil 1 (high mileage extended life) 5-30 that costs about $23 w/tax at wally mart for 5 qts.

    Weird enough response?

I do under 10K/year but I tow, so about every 6-8months (diy whenever convenient), would fall under heavier duty OCI I believe. I just use Kirkland synthetic 0W20 so it's cheap, and OEM filter from the dealer.

With full synthetic oil I’ve always lived by the 2 times a year or 5000 miles whichever comes first. For the timing I always change in the mild “seasons” if you would call them that. Being in Texas our fall and spring always seem shorter than our winters and summers. So Usually around April and October for us.

My '07 5.7L has 295k and I recently changed my interval from 5k to 4k, I will probably do the same with my '02 4.7L.

Oil & filter changes are cheap... engines are expensive.

'Muricans invented real motor oil. You can't change your motor oil too often. Even when using obscenely expensive motor oil, it's still cheaper than changing the engines.

What the hell is Motul?...euro racing oil made from truffle juice? :notsure:

Early and sooner is what I preach. Even the Blackstones Lab Guy says 5k intervals is best. I saw and heard him in that video. I change mine every 3k miles so that the recycled heating oil market can benefit, too. Win win!

My OCI is 2333.3 miles, or annually. Or, 18 months. Whatever is convenient time-wise, whichever comes first. (No worries...these Tundras have resin or plastic bearings.) If I was 20 years younger, I would probably get enough heavy-metaled motor oil on my hands, or other natural causes, to kill me before my Tundra dies.

Right there with you on that recycled motor oil as fuel. Down on the creek, I have a burn pile for all the brush cuttings, tree trimmings and removals. Buddy, that Full Synthetic motor oil will get that burn pile going lickedy-split...especially if it has a little stale gasoline mixed in with it. Got to stand back and be careful to avoid losing the eyebrows though. :D

I recommend expeller-pressed organic coconut oil. Benefit to the lube properties is that it tastes like a luau!

I change mine every 10k, flex fuel truck, just posted my UOA with 9k miles and it came back great and they said I could go to 11k if I wanted. 3k OCI is insane...
