Had a chance to get running board lights on the other day. Simple install. I ordered a set of truck bed strip lights from Amazon, 3M adhesive on them. Cleaned the surface well, stuck them on. Ran the wiring up through the sill on each side. Lights had quick connects and a switch on them. Was going to cut them off, but decided to see how long they were. Both sides reached far enough to meet in the middle under the dash, plugged them together.. used T taps onto the floor light on the drivers side. Tucked everything in the dash and tyrapped to keep in place. Love them!

Excellent job. Can you post a daylight picture of the mounting location?

I just used the 3M tape to fasten it on the side of the frame. I put it about in the middle of the frame rail... works great upload_2018-11-24_15-16-45.jpgupload_2018-11-24_15-16-45.jpg

How do they work? Are they on when you unlock? Do they remain ON all the time while the engine is running?

I connected them to the light under the dash of the drivers side, so anytime the interior lights are on, they are on. So when you unlock the doors, and the interior lights come on... they come on

I connected it to the wires going to the light under the drivers footwell.. although I may change and connect to the cargo light. I thought they would dim and be cool when they came on and went off.. but it happens so fast it is not real visible. If I put it on the cargo lights, it will come on with my remote

I second this, I'd like to run these lights for my soon-to-be installed running boards but I'm also a modding idiot. Anyone know of a video showing how to do this?

how many watts can the cargo light wire withstand before it blows a fuse? how many watts can the driver floor light wire withstand as well? ive been looking for these answers. no one seems to talk about adding an inline 5a fuse so i assume that you all had no power issues? i ordered the same set of lights and am wondering if i can just tap into the cargo light such as these guys talk about doing but will that be problematic in the future? this post is a year old i might not get a response but worth a shot...

Look like it came with an inline fuse before the switch. Im sure you can place the 5a fuse in there and it will work. Since it is led, i dont think it would draw much to cause issue with power.

    Welcome to the forum..
Depending on what year your truck is, you can tap into the little driver's side floorboard light under the dash.
They will come on when you unlock the truck and time out when you get in.
Then they come on when you open the door and go off when you lock the truck.

I tapped into that circut for my puddle lights.
You can use positaps to tap into the wiring, although I cut mine because I installed front and rear floor LEDs as well as the mirror puddle lights.
You can run the wiring into the cab through the rubber grommet in the floorboard in front of the front seat.
