My 2018 Tundra was shutoff more than 8 hrs when I heard the fuel pump still running. I started the engine and turned it off and the fuel pump stopped. ???

I heard the same thing right after I bought my 19’....went out in the garage late one night and heard a noise and definitely was coming from the truck and sound like a fuel pump. Asked the dealer and they said sometimes the computer will run “checks” on things periodically and I have heard it a couple times since then....nothing appears to be affecting with normal operation. It doesn’t stay on but will come on after the truck had been sitting.

It's the charcoal canister vacuum pump. It's normal for it to come on add very odd times.

This happen last night to our 19 Tundra. Went out to the garage and heard some buzzing noise. It was coming from back end of the Tundra. The truck had been parked for several hours. I started it and shut it off and it stopped. Have not asked the dealer about it but will tomorrow. Its getting the trailer brake controller update so it stops crying about the trailer not being connected. At least I hope.

Still running, as in 8 hours straight or you just noticed it making a sound 8 hours later? It will come on at random times for emissions bs.

No I don't think it was running for 8 hours. I asked the service tech about it today. Turns out its some kind of emissions thing Toyota vehicles do. Supposedly it only runs for a few minutes. I just happened to go out in the garage when it was running.

Nothing. Followed by Toyota Maintenance Agreement.
Two times heard the fuel pump was running. Two times alarme was off. Car is just off and not closed in the garage. To stop that running, only when I put contact ON then OFF. After I closed vehicle with alarm ON then fuel pump is stopped. I don't know if it can start with vehicle closed with alarm. Also, is that a normal function to have a fuel pump started in my garage without knowing it ?
Anyway, I need to know if it is a normal function. Tomorrow I will ask the question at Toyota.
I hope it is not the reason they replaced a lot of fuel pump because this one is running maybe more than expected. I hope also it is not an "obsolescence programed" hidden to replace before 10 years a fuel pump.
I don't like having something operating when system should be off.

My wife's lexus does that too. Apparently normal. My 2017 tundra doesn't though fwiw. Maybe they added it after that

running fuel pump for 8 hrs straight dead headed is a good leak down test for the injectors.

It's an evap test that the vehicle does to check for leaks. Basically there is a little pump that applies a vacuum to the tank and lines then looks for a leak in the system by monitoring how long the vacuum is held. If it fails it's will turn on the check engine light. The test only happens (correct me if I'm wrong on the temp) at 10C or above.

Okay thanks everyone to explain me that function test. Also, the temperature is currently cold in my garage not insulated yet (-6°C) outside (-30°C), today.

It will definitely not do the test at -30c.
