I recently rescued my son 100 miles away when his run flat ran flat. No replacement in stock within 50 miles on a Saturday night. Most tire places closed on Sunday. Towed his ass home. Would have been nice if he had a spare. Tow only covered 20-25 miles. Stupid idea.

Zero chance is real low haha. I don’t need it, I run 37 spare on the roof rack. But conquering the challenge is my draw haha

My thought process was that in 25 years of driving I've literally never had to put on a spare. Plenty of screws/nails/flats, but was always able to get an air tank to inflate long enough to get to a tire shop. But I get it, most are uncomfortable with the idea. Was just curious if anyone else was that much of a gambler. :bikewhoops:[/QUOTE]

That’s pretty impressive. I’ve had to change out hundreds of flats over the years. Personal vehicles and work vehicles, mostly work. Granted, my work required travel off road 85% of the time. Trailers etc.. on the occasions when I’ve had more than one flat in the middle of nowhere, it sucks having to sit and wait for help. Just me, but I don’t go anywhere without a spare. I also keep plugs and a compressor in every ride.

i personally wouldn't. maybe ok if you're around town but 'working it out' on an adventure isn't ideal. especially because instead of an adv you and everyone else will prob be waiting for a tow truck and if you don't have common tire size you may have to abandon the truck until the new tire came in. happened to me once taking my kids skiing. luckily made it off fwy to a 7 eleven to get a tow about two miles to a firestone. ordered tires (about time to replace all 4 anyway), abandoned the truck, rented the last 4x4 in town b/c it was ski season then picked up truck on way home. we lost about a day. p.i.t.a.!

never again so recently added rigd ultraswing. and i use my bed so wanted something that was easy to get to and can be used for other stuff and still tow. plus i think it looks cool. as a kid always liked a big spare hanging off a rig. i'll be removing the oem spare and maybe put air compressor, storage or something else there.

Man one time I had both rear tires blow the same drive home from work. First spare helped, tow truck the second one haha. And not like I ran em bald. New tires yearly for our work trucks.

I see not a popular opinion here  But I'm with you OP... no way I'm spending hundreds of dollars on a matching nice tire just to have it time out sitting under the bed (or in the bed taking up space) never used. If it can go in the space under the bed and I can get one of matching size used for <100 bucks, fine, but otherwise, no. 22 years of driving here, and I've been stranded on the side of the road for things, but never a flat tire. If it ever happens and my compressor can't get it full enough to make it to the tire shop, I'll just get the AAA tow like I have in the past for other issues. I'd need several tows to match the price of one tire.

My other cars didn't come with them or have any place to put one if I wanted, so, not used to having one, not worried about it.

If you're in a group of off roading bad asses hundreds of miles from the nearest civilization I get it, but that isn't where I'm at.

My wife's Sienna is the same. One of the run flats blew out one time and since they all needed replacing, I had no choice but to put the whole van on jacks and load all the wheels in my truck to the tire shop. It was such a hassle.

I can confirm a 285 75r18 will fit. I used a sledgehammer to bend the tabs. It didn’t take much for the tire to fit. I agree with others that bigger than 35 will not fit.

Is the no spare exclusive to the AWD models? Would make sense that the rear driveline would occupy any space that a spare would fit in a small van.

5 tire rotations are a thing. Then that 5th tire gets you extra time between tire purchases. Then, when you go to replace tires, you keep the best of the previous 5 as a spare if you don't want to continue with 5 tire rotations.

Well that makes a bit more sense at least... the transfer case/diffs etc don't have a problem rotating a new tire in with used ones? I'm new to the 4wd mechanics. Normally I'd change tires in F/R pairs at a minimum.

Start with 5 brand new tires. Follow the rotation in the pic on the right on your normal rotation schedule. No tire is out for more than a single rotation at a time.

5 tire rotation here. Just have to pony up for a new TPMS sensor if you don’t want a dash light. I’m living with the dash light.

My BMW did not come with a spare tire so I carried a plug kit and small air compressor for emergency. But unfortunately for me, the one time I did have a flat, I could not plug it because the damage was on the edge of side wall that was leaking fast. I had to air it up, drive a couple blocks...pull over, air up again...drive couple blocks...then air up again. I had to pull over a few times to air up...until I got to a tire shop. What a pain in the A##!!!
