This worked great, thanks for the post, Dave. I used these LEDs. They're flush-mount & work well.

Did you ever figure this out? I might get the OEM tow mirrors but want to install this mod. I have a 2020 SR5 TRD but don't have power fold. I wonder if that is why you are not getting it to work. Also, if you turn off BSM and RCTA do you not get the error when you turn truck off and on?

Yes, I did get it figured out, and it has worked fine ever since. I'm out of town this week and don't have my truck or the photos I took with me, but I will try to remember to post them when I get back. It's just a matter of using the correct LEDs, that don't have resistors, and connecting the correct wires.

Im just about to do this same mod, and read this informative post. thanks
so just to confirm , were wire numbers 9 and 14 the correct wires on your diagram to tap into?
and you said to pic a LED light without resistors correct.

also I was thinking , instead of installing the small LED in the little interior panel, I may consider a bigger LED outside the truck on the side of the mirror. I would think that would be more noticable since you always look to your mirrors when about to change lanes anyway

Correct. #s 9 and 14 on my diagram. I think you could do a larger LED on the side of the mirror. The only concern would be to make sure you find a LED without a resistor. I'm not sure what the deal is with the resistors, but they cause issues and you'll get the BSM warning on your dash.

This is the one I used. I have used one before for a light inside center console so I knew they’d work great - and they did.

Oznium Brightest Light Bolt - Flush https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AFU4QCM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_yVv3EbQ73WK8H

I put mine in sail panel & it works great. Sail panel is a MUCH cheaper part of the truck to drill a hole in - I initially considered putting it on the mirrors themselves, but drilling a hole in my $600 tow mirrors wasn’t an option after considering the alternative of drilling in a 5 dollar sail panel. Anyway - works great in sail panel.

if you did want to put it on the mirror itself, this one would work (as long as you had access to the back of where you will be drilling hole so you can screw retaining washers into back of LED) - it’s waterproof. It’s flush-mount, too, which makes it look nice & clean.

i finally got around to installing the deluxe Trail Ridge tow mirrors (heated, power folding, puddle lights, rear lights, turn signals, running lights, and BSM) on my 2016 Tundra TRD DC. Would have been nice if it was fully plug n play. But I got everything working except the puddle lights, which was the least important to me (and for some reason when I got them hooked up to the dome light switch/circuit it killed the dome lights, so I gave up). Anyway, I wanted to show folks how to make the BSM light IN the Trail Ridge mirror work, rather than putting an LED in the sail. I installed the sail light as described in earlier posts in this thread (thanks, all!) but just thought there had to be a better way. And I tried to map out the wires like others have done (the red and black wires from the BSM LED become pink and black/white at the jack) and I could get the light to light by bypassing the factory connections, but no matter what I did, I could not get the BSM to work properly if the entire mirror harness was plugged in. The pink wire controls the mirror functions too, so it apparently can't be the hot for the LED. I was confused so I decided to just run another set of wires.

First, you pop off the top trim piece on the mirror arm/swivel with a plastic trim tool (see uploaded pic 1), it then pulls completely off the upper arm (pic2). Then you can push the mirror in and down to open up the upper left portion where the BSM LED resides. You can snag those wires (pic3) with a dental tool and there's a plug (watch the metal clips in there, they fall out if disturbed, and watch the little cheapie wire clips, they break easily. I cut off the plug and soldered new wires. I fished them through the mirror housing into the open space of the arm, and ran them along the existing wiring harness and into the car. And BTW - All that was way easier with the mirror on the bench vs on the car.

Works like a champ, no extra LED in the sail, and all the other functions work great too (except that damn puddle light, which I don't need, but I refuse to be beaten by a project so I may tackle that some other day).

I have 2019 tundra SR5. I have replaced my mirrors with OEM tow mirrors and I too have warning messages. I bought the small lEDs that you suggested from Amazon. The lights in the sails come on momentarily when the key is turned on. Warning messages are still there. I did not cut my wires going into the mirrors harnesses. I tapped into them. Do I need to cut the wires to the harnesses for this to work properly? Very frustrating! Thanks for your help!!

I tapped & it works fine. I’d double & triple check you tapped the correct wires. I can take a pic tomorrow of the wires I tapped for my 2016.

I think I had to use techstream to reset the BSM between each failed event. It stores the error code. Maybe. I don’t recall exactly but I do Recall having tech steam open on the Laptop while doing the mirrors.

Well looks like I’ll be the next Smuck to install the Tundra power fold tow mirrors on my 2020 limited... it’s only a matter of time before I have a day to go do it.

One development and caution: after a few months of them working great, including a trip to SW Colorado where I had to fold them in and out a bunch of times because of narrow 4WD roads, I started to get a buzz from the drivers side mirror when it was fully extended. Nothing would make it go away: tried forcing it in and out, tapping it, swapping out the dash switch, etc. I took it completely apart but could not get to the motor itself, presumably there’s a pawl or something out of place preventing it from shutting off when fully extended. Bummed me out. I did a workaround and just put a power kill switch near the dash switch and when it’s extended, it buzzes so I kill the motor power.

I can confirm that the installation of the OEM tow mirrors onto a 2018 Crew Max SR5, with the installation of the Oznium LED's in sail panels........
causes the RCTA and BSM lights on dash to stay on.
The LED's do come on with initial key start, then warning lights appear.
Codes in system are for slave and master failure.
Clear codes with Snap On Scanner, they immediately come back on.

I put my Power Folding OEM tow mirrors (works great bTW)..
on and sail panel LED’s (the one’s the Uhhh.. used) but I’m getting an error on the BSM.... Arg.

I need another LED part number...

Not sure it the 2020 behaves differently than a 2016 but I accidentally ordered 20 instead of two. Haven't had any issues.

I think I found it - after 2017 they made pin 9 vs. pin 18 the BSM, but both are connected somehow... so I need to move my LED to pin 9 and I should be good.

Hey chrisbusnut, do you still have the photos you took once you got yours working? I seem to be having the same issue on my 2021 DC Limited. I'm pretty sure I connected to the correct pins (9 & 14). I've tried various other configurations and these are the only two pins that cause the LEDs to come on when I turn on BSM. I'm using the Oznium 6mm LEDs with which others seem to have luck. I'm pretty sure there's no resistor.

I have the black/(-ve) connected to pin 14 (white wire with black stripe, center bottom row with 4 existing wires on the left) and the red/(+ve) connected to pin 9 (top right wire on row with 3 existing wires on the left, black on the driver side, tan on the passenger side)

I didn't cut down the wires on the LED; is it possible the wire length could be causing an issue?

I attached photos of how I have it wired. The one with the black and tan wires on the right is the driver side and the one with the tan and light blue wires on the right is the passenger side.

Any other advice would be awesome. Thanks!

Here's what works on my 2023 Tundra:

Sky Blue (SB in wiring diagram) is LED+
Lavender (LA in wiring diagram) is LED-

BSM works just fine with this LED and any others that are 12vdc with a resistor.
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AFU4QCM?ie=UTF8&pldnSite=1&th=1

The resistor limits the current draw of the LED.
