It's here in Denver. I'd rather not say because I really don't want to throw them under the bus as they are trying to make it right.

The trucks are definitely under fueled.

FFV is even worse because, although they gave the larger than regular "regular" injectors and pump, they aren't enough for a properly tuned or mildly modified SC truck.

The FFV ecm can also get tricky with some of its parameters that change fueling based on perceived ethanol content.

The number one most important thing is an AFR gauge to monitor and know to let off if you're ever lean.

If you have a tune where something isn't right or changes and you get on it... It will grenade pretty quickly in lean AFR. Especially longer (hotter) runs.

Yeah they did one pull on the dyno and the second new motor immediately started ticking. AFR's according to the dyno sheet showed 11-12 range.

And it's the tune from Magnason, so I figured they would have this all dialed in.

Yeah I'm not sure about the HPT version of Magi's tune.

I know for a fact that the FFV Bullydog tune was garbage and blowing up stuff like crazy.

Mines a 16 and FFV and I have HPT.(my own, not Magi's tune)

On the FFV injectors I was EXTREMELY lean with no room.

I swapped to the TRD injectors and gained a lot but still way lean after 5k.

I have 650s in the mail as we speak and this is with a stock pulley too.

Imagine guys who just throw a smaller pulley in and let er rip! :X

5.29s and a LSD going in today. Anyone running a SC with 5.29s? Not SC'd yet but plan on it next year, curious what to expect.

I’m on 5.29 sc and long tube headers. It will wake up pretty good even on conservative tune and burn the 37’s

Thats what I like to hear. On 35s currently but once I decide to pull the trigger on the SC, I'll be grabbing some 37s and 17" wheels. Just waiting for a definitive ECU unlock for 2020s and my poor factory warranty to expire.

Just go ahead and go all in with forged internal and a motec stand alone and you won’t even have to wait for a 2020 stand alone!

Thanks for the info. I'll be asking the shop about maybe a custom tune and maybe going with more fuel. The first motor spun the bearing on the no. 7 cylinder and had metal debris in the pan. Not sure yet what was the damage on the second motor other than it sounded exactly the same as the first motor (ticking sound that wasn't there before the s/c install). Will find out soon from the machine shop. Hopefully this third iteration of a beefier components/block will be the final one.

I still haven't been in for a custom tune. I have a local shop here that says they can do it and have done several (from what they tell me). I know another member here has used them and recommended them as well. I've been just waiting until things go back to normal and I start working in the office again to make an appt and bring it in. You've got me a little worried now that I should have it tuned sooner. I've put on about 5K miles so far and took one longer road trip from Phoenix to Palm Springs. Truck seems to run great aside from the small ticking I've posted a while back in this thread that happens when in higher gear and lower RPM's when applying moderate throttle to speed up.

I'm running the HPTuners from Magnuson along with their new fuel injectors that came with the kit. I wonder if that's the reason behind the new injectors?...I know prior kits were using the stock FFV injectors.

Sorry didn't mean to worry you. Just wanted to see if anyone else has had the same issues as me. My truck has only 66k miles on it and I'm OCD about everything on it. So when it started ticking after the first install I knew something was up. The truck ran awesome just had this very quiet ticking sound at 2500-3500 rpms. I initially thought it was a lifter or something in the heads. The dealer thought it was the cam gears had slipped. Replaced the cam gears and still had the ticking. Dropped the pan and that's when they found the metal particulates. I bought the Magnason on May 15th and have basically been down since than.
The performance shop here says they've done a couple dozen Tundras and have never seen anything like this.

Do you by chance have any audio or video of the ticking sound? Can you listen to my clip in post #258? Did yours sound similar to that? Thanks.

I looked all through my phone and couldn't find a video that I thought I took. I did watch your video, mine did seem very similar to yours. It's hard to say for sure because it sounds like you have exhaust mods or something. My truck isn't that loud inside, all stock for me other than a supercharger. But all my ticking noise was definitely NOT there before the Magnason and was very apparent when opening the hood at idle. And even my wife could here it inside the cab with light throttle in the 2-3k rpm range.

I'll have to check mine at idle, never thought of that. My ticking was not there before the Magnuson either. I do have the TRD catback exhaust, so it is a little hard to hear over that. I can really only hear it when I have the radio off and listen for it, but again it only seems to happen in that specific scenario. You're saying you could hear the ticking with the hood up just at idle?

Yes I could definitely here it with the hood open. It was quiet but there. Sure hope you don't have the same problem. This has been a nightmare!

I'll give it a listen when I leave for work in a couple hours. If it was ticking just at idle I wonder if maybe the tune was never downloaded to your truck? Something wasn't right for sure.

Maybe. But it very lightly ticked at idle, and definitely ticked in the 2-3k range. Almost sounded like a diesel motor in the 2-3k range. I knew something was wrong and just can't drive something that isn't reliable. I trust the shop and kinda doubt that they would miss downloading the program twice.mmmmm

Did you have a Toyota dealer do the install?

I was going to have Right Toyota in Scottsdale, AZ do my install. They have done a ton of supercharger installs out here. The contact I was working with actually left Toyota and opened up his own shop called Westcott Designs. I ended up going through them for my install which was February of this year.

Dang. I couldn't find a dealer here in Colorado that still does the install because Magnason now owns the superchargers and Toyota won't back them. That's what I was told anyways. I just assumed that Mag had worked out all the bugs.

Yeah, I asked around several places and they seemed to be the only dealership I could find with any experience in installation. The dealership where I bought my truck said they could do my install, but they were going to sub out the work to someone else. I wanted to find a place that had done several installs and knew exactly what whey were doing.

Yeah the shop I’m at has done well over 50 Magnasun superchargers. Not sure why mine is being difficult with only 6-7 pounds of boost. I’ve redlined my 09 Gt500 for the past nine years and never had one issue.

It’s all very odd to me. The shop said they are going to make it bulletproof. Whatever that means, they said they’ll make it right on there dime or Magnasuns.

@66Fastback What shop are you using in Denver? It seems strange to want to go to a shop that may have blown your motor up, but I am looking into all the possible options to tune my 19 with Harrop 2650. I have vF tuner program by Orange Virus and also heard HP can do a custom calibration ($$$$ though!). There are not many options, so I would love to talk to them if they have done Tundras before!

    Thanks

I currently have Harrop stage 1 without injectors, but want to go to stage 2.

Harrop uses the DW 650 cc injectors for stage 2: https://www.deatschwerks.com/21ttx-00-0650-8

The tuner recommends the TRD green high flow injectors: https://parts.sparkstoyota.com/p/To...--High-Flow-Injector/69529090/PTR2434070.html

I can't verify the cc, but other forums suggest they are 480 cc. Can anyone confirm?

The tuner said they want me to use theTRD high flow injectors, but it doesn't make sense to me to use 480 cc vs 650 cc injectors if tuning anyway, especially when the TRD are double the cost!

    Thoughts?
