Man....I know/have seen some huge boats being trailered without straps. I've also asked some people with big boats why they don't use strap...they almost always say "this thing is so big, it's not going anywhere"....I don't think those people have ever seen pictures like that.

I got cut off while turning left at a traffic light while towing my old 17 ft center console. I clipped the curb with my trailer while avoiding a crash. My boat had both transom eyes secured to the trailer and the bow secured to the winch post and another strap to the trailer. Even so, the boat still bounced up off the bunks and landed crooked on the trailer. Those straps stretched so much. If it wasn't strapped down it would've definitely ended up on the pavement. Nothing was damaged except a little pride. We were heading to the ramp and ended up having a great day on the boat.

Well guys, I upgraded. As previously posted, the Tundra was 20lbs from GVWR with only me in it and a dry trailer (+ 450lbs of water). 7180lbs. I bought some SumoSprings, but never put them in.

I had the Tundra for 1 year and 7000 miles. Loved the CM for the family, but in the end we want to see places in Utah and the hills are pretty constant, both up and down. This Ram is absolutely amazing and doing what it was designed for: towing. I got the family model again, so my payload is only 1800lbs, but that is plenty of room for this trailer.

The exhaust brake is the 2nd most amazing reason to upgrade (next to the Cummins with 850ft-lbs of torque). This truck is rated around 17,000lbs towing capacity, and while it didn't "feel like it wasn't there", I was also going easy on the pedal since it is a new truck (I put the required 500mi on it before towing though).

220mi trip up from 4000' to 7000' a couple times and averaged 12mpg, transmission temps never above 180. Diesel is cheaper than gas right now too! Driving around town I get 18-19mpg, 25mpg on the highway...for an 8100lbs truck.

    Will miss the Tundra community!

I came inches from buying the Ram 2500, had the pen in hand and ready to sign. But the wife chimed in and said she would never drive it because it was tooooo big. I put the pen down and trove over to Toyota and bought the 2020 Tundra. I too tow a TT, but just not at big as yours. The Ram is a beautiful truck and a beast to drive. One day when the wife wants to upgrade to a 5th wheel, I will have to tell her I need to buy the Ram to upgrade. Good luck with the new tuck, it will be an awesome ride.

I may be in the same boat next year. Did the Tundra hold it's value? I hate being limited on what I can tow. Should have looked at trailers before trucks but oh well. Live and learn. I'm hoping the 2022 gets more capacity but if not might get a chevy 2500.

If I would have privately sold my Tundra, I would have only lost about $4000 in a year total, so yes. But, there are almost 0 1794s for sale right now.

Instead, I traded it in to save on the tax in Utah. So, I got $44,500 for it. Paid $51,300 before tax. I saved $3k in tax, so I figured that extra $2k or so was worth just handing them the keys and not having to haggle, post, etc. a used car.

How is the RAM treating you? Would you recommend one? Any issues you’ve encountered? Much appreciated!

What kind of payload are you looking for? As far as I know it's still only going to be a 1/2 ton truck, so I wouldn't be expecting anything to much higher than the current competition numbers. Even that is going to have a wide range based on trims and cabs.

Wait. Why is my trucks payload 400 lbs below the listed low range of the Tundra? Someone stole my payload, lol.

I was just snagging google pics for reference. No payload numbers on the internet matter; only the one on the door. Similar boat here, too. Mine is twelve hundred and change.

How is the Ram Cummins reliability wise? I know the gas Hemi had cam and tranny issues.

I think reliability has been going up. Especially with the switch to Aisin tranny and manufacturers finials figuring new smog equipment. I just bought a 2019 for a new service truck, hopefully it holds up better than my fords did.

it’s an option on the 3/4 tons I believe. But I was shopping cab and chassis not “trucks” I think it’s almost standard on 1 tons now as all the ones I looked at had the aisin trannys

Any Cummins motor issues? I use to have an old 1980 Dodge 3/4 Cummins turbo with the three speed auto. Turned up the mechanical injector pump and timing and enjoyed blowing black soot all over town. The thing was dead reliable with over 500K.

The truck only has 5000 miles on it so far, but my guys will abuse it so in a year I’ll have a pretty good idea if it’s solid or not. It is the cab and chassis so it’s not the 1000ftlbs motor it is the detuned version, which hopefully will help reliability. It’s still 800ftlbs of torque though.

So just got back from another trip. This time I added air to the rear tires, brought them up to 50 psi. Night and day difference when cornering. Also took measurements before and after hook up. Only squats 2 inches and the front comes up half an inch. Handled so much better. Just in time for our last trip in a few weekends through the white mountains, lots of hills and sharp corners. Thanks again to everyone on here for the advice

My wife and I just put down deposit on the RPOD 202 Dual axle trailer. with tongue weight passengers and dogs with firewood in bed of truck we still have about 300lbs to play with before hitting payload max. if your still looking at tt and look at an RPOD 202 make sure you order one made in Oregon. its called the hood river package it comes with BFG KO2 A/T along with few other things.

Towed my first trailer with my Tundra and it performed excellent. Hydraulic brakes meant no futzing with brake controllers.

Really good! Have done 2500 miles now through Utah, Colorado, and Arizona. My only issue is that the seat doesn't go down low enough like the Tundra's. :) I'm 6'2".

Love the exhaust brake most, game changer on all hills.

I will own a C-Dory someday. It's not a financial issue but more of where I can use it. All the reservoirs and lakes near me are too small. I'm only 1.5 hrs away from the Atlantic and associated bays but I prefer freshwater. I'm going to have to stick to my pontoon boat for now.
