    Indeed.

    In simplest terms it's the aluminum version of rust... iron oxide versus aluminum oxide. While aluminum will self-passivate with oxygen to prevent further corrosion the mechanism is not bullet-proof. Electrolysis and ph shifts are just a couple of ways to induce further corrosion.

    Coolant anti-corrosion packages deplete over time. Change them on schedule to prevent the dreaded recovery tank maus.
