    Will a topper/camper shell from a 2007-2013 CrewMax (5.5 ft bed) fit on a 2014 - 2020 model?

    And vice versa?

I remember that vid but info is outdated. A real pain in the ass to convert but certainly doable.

I see a lot of used CM toppers on Craigslist all the time. Might be a color match issue for the OP and a good deal. Hmmmm...

Thanks guys. I was only going to consider it if the toppers were plug and play. Agreed, looks like a lot of work.

It’s not a color match issue as I’m likely going to Linex the exterior of the topper anyway.

I’m just looking for a used topper for a 07 - 13 and not finding many near me. So I was hoping the newer model version would work, but oh well. Keep looking.

OK my experience is with the Long Bed versions and I do not know if the same exact differences are similar with the other bed length so.......
The only difference in the Long Bed are the tailgate thickness which adds 1.5" in the 3rd gen trucks vs the 2nd gen truck.

So all I had to do to use a 2nd gen shell on a 3rd gen truck was get a piece of 1.5" or 2" L Angle the width of the bed which was esily bought at a hardware store and rivet it to the cab end of the shell.
This closed the 1.5" gap that I ended up with when the shorter 2nd gen shell was fitted to the tailgate end of the bed.

Then of course I lined the two sides and cab end under the edge with weather sealing rubber tape and clamped the shell in place.

Not a deal at all really if you are even a little bit handy with tools.

I don’t think I mentioned that what I’m looking for is a topper that fits a 2010 CrewMax (5.5 foot bed)

Plan to put a rack on it to hold a roof top tent.

RTT on it??? Game changer. You are going need a topper with appropriate structural option that can handle the additional weight of a RTT. Huge game changer. A used one if you can find one used will cost you $2K easy....

    Here’s the compatible list
    07-13
    14-17
    18-20

Cabs must be the same style

second and third gen are not compatible
The third gens are a few inches longer

I have an 07 camper top that was on a 14 model with a gap at the end. The owner got it second hand but it didn’t fit

    it fits my 07 perfectly

Very possible, but I think a lot of average toppers can hold more weight than the manufacturers are willing to let on/state for liability reasons.

I could be wrong and find out the hard way on that, but we’ll see.

The hard way could get quite expensive with overload to bedsides without reinforcement. Backing out of this......

Except that as I said above that gap is a simple effective fix or at least has been for me 3 different times now.

@SouthWestGA - So did they make double cabs with a 5.5 ft box?

If so, would that topper fit on a CrewMax?

    @ionyota

I am not aware of a Double Cab with a short bed on 2007 and newer models. I believe all double cabs have full size beds.

the 2007 and up CrewMAX have short beds
