My Nissan has one of these and I really liked it to make it easy to get in the bed of the truck, so I ordered one for my 2017 Limited. It says it’s for years 2016 and 2017 only.

It came yesterday and after looking at the install, it folds and unfolds on the driver side of the bumper, not to the rear, which I was expecting. Is it still easy to use it to walk into the back of the pickup? I’m debating whether to do the install or send it back. It appears to be a fair amount of work to only find out that it doesn’t let me maneuver up to the tailgate.

    thanks for any advice...

If it folded to the rear wouldn’t it be obstructed and unable to be used if the tailgate was down?

On my Nissan and in the pics they advertise, it unfolds to the rear corner, to the left of the tailgate...very easy to use as a step up I to the tailgate. Loved it.

This one unfolds directly to the left of the bumper. Not sure whether I can use it as a step up or not... this is my question.

Wonder if any forum members have any pics of this to share? I'm interested in a step as well.

Check out this thread. It will show you some pictures of what it looks like finished. I don't have the Amp one. I have the one made by Bestop. I think they are very similar in design and placement. I can tell you that mine works fine to use with the tailgate down, although having it stick out further out to the corner would be better.

I had the one that unfolds to the side. I lived with it for a year on my '17 and removed it/threw it in the trash. It was NOT easy to use. You step up to....the corner of the tailgate. Stepping down was awful. I replaced it with the version that unfolds to the rear. MUCH better. It is easy to use stepping up and down. The second version is 100% compatible with my '17, but installation was not easy as part of the bumper needed to be disassembled.

This is great feedback and exactly what I was concerned about. I guess I’ll be returning it.

    thank you!
