Regarding the Dimming with the NSV:

There are 3 Revisions of this light bar.

The 1st version did not dim whatsoever, it was a constant power DRL.

The 2nd version had issues with dimming, where on some applications it would dim without an issue and others where it wouldn't dim at all.

The 3rd version has been fully swept and revised so that it will dim at all times! If it does not dim down, you would want to re-check your Wiring/Pinning for any errors.

 

Can anyone please share a photo of the depin tool you use for the NSV connector. I need to pull the wire loom off the hood so i need to depin the whole connector. I’ve tried several and can’t seem to pull the wires off. Is there a trick to this? Thanks!

I assume I have gen 3 because I just bought it but anyone figure out how to have the bar com on by pressing the button on the panel even when the high beams are not on?

 

Help please! i regret to introduce my first post with a weird situation with this new install, has anyone experienced the following? Based on the instructions, the blue wire needs to be cut at the headlight housing for a 2018 Tundra with DRL and LED lights.

Once I plugged the battery, I ran into some issues. I get power going into the switch panel, the three buttons light up when pressed but I do not get the lightbar, the swipe or the DRL’s to turn on. I tried different settings such as lights on with the high beams on, but no results on the lightbar.
The only successful results I get is when I locked or unlocked the truck. The swipe feature of the lights does this once, and for this reason i'm a bit suspicious about the blue wire. Any suggestions on how to trace the problem? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

 

If you have LED’s you need to cut that blue wire, I had the same worry but it’s what you have to do.

remember the power/lights on the switch panel come from the “tap in” you did to the cigarette lighter power so that really doesn’t mean anything.

My best guess is that the pin connectors are not seated properly or maybe even in the wrong order? I assume you have the newest version of the light so make sure you skipped pin #3.

Thanks Greywind! I got one of the recent models 1417TUN.NSV.LIGHTBAR. I did skipped pin #3 during the install, but I'll recheck my pin connectors once again. I'll keep searching for similar issues.

 

So I’m not sure whether to start a brand new post or see if others can assist me on this thread so let me know if I need to start a new thread. Earlier this year I purchased and installed the NSV light bar on my 2018 Tundra (I have the LED head lights). I got everything working according to the install instructions, but a few weeks ago I took my Tundra in to the dealer for unrelated service and they had a recall issue on the Tundra that involved the front turn signals. Apparently, their have been numerous complaints about the Tundra front turn signals on the LED headlight units being too dim. So Toyota had a ‘fix’ that changed the voltage going to the turn signal lights. As a result, one function of the NSV light bar was disabled in Toyota doing this... it was the high beams turning the entire light bar on; all other light bar functions still work. The service person at Toyota proactively told me this when they finished the work, so they obviously saw the wiring harness connections from the NSV light bar. However, because of ‘liability’ reasons, they couldn’t correct high-beams for the light bar. But the service person did tell me that he thought it would be an easy thing to change “one wire” that led to the turn signal. He said something like “you just need to change the wire to use the higher current wire” or something to that affect. Unfortunately, I’m not sure what to do - I’m a bit intimidated by the complexity of the NSV connectors, and it’s outside my comfort zone to ‘experiment’. I’m hoping someone is familiar with the overall wiring scheme of these light bars and Tundra headlight units AND that there really is something easy I can do without screwing something up or making things worse. I really don’t know exactly what Toyota did, but I’m thinking that others that have taken their Tundras into Toyota for this recall/fix are experiencing the same issue and have the appropriate corrective action they can describe... I’m happy to provide additional information so just let me know what I can add to help figure this thing out...

i too have the same experience. What they did was to move that white wire on the next slot of the connector of the turn signal.

 

I have a question for all who have the NSV Light bar that have the Strobe light. My light bar works perfect, no problems. The DRLs dim when I switch to the parking lights and when I turn on the headlights. The only thing I don’t like is the DRLs being on all the time. I would like to delete them but don’t know how. Has anyone deleted this feature. I asked HR and they said their was no way to do this.

 

Sorry, no help here, I have a switch for the DRL lights on the supplied panel.

 

If you have strobe, your DRLs will always be on...otherwise DRLs are on the toggle...this is for v2 & v3 harnesses with DRL toggle in-lieu of strobe...

 

Yeah, the newer versions swapped out the Strobe function for the DRL on and off switch. Although, I like having the Strobe lights I just don’t like the bright DRLs.

 

I’m looking for maybe something as easy as depinning a wire that would disable the DRLs.

 

You could put some yellow or orange lamin-x film over the two end sections, or tint them!

 

It's funny you say this. I bought some yellow lamin-x film. Cut it to fit. After 6 layers of film on each side it was still very bright. I'm open to any other suggestions to dull the brightness.

 

Dark window tint? Maybe a combination of the two? Also I believe the nsv is getting the DRL signal from the headlight location when you plugged the connector into the headlight motor harness. Maybe you can intercept the DRL signal wire at the headlight motor and add a switch to it. Shouldn’t be that hard. Just find out which wires from your original harness feed the DRL.

 

You may also be able to depin the DRL wire at the driver kick panel which I did to disable my factory DRL. @iHacker may be able to help you out. It should be as simple as snipping a wire.

Funny how i got LED’s and also cut the blue wire but lost driver side turn signal ... reconnect and everything works fine ... well except light bar does not come on if on AUTO ...

 

Guess i have the 3rd Gen in my 2019 .. but the issue i have is DRL on NSV doesnt dim when auto nor Light switch on ... did you do anything diff to fix that issue .?

 

Update .. lost parking lights .. 10 amp tail kept blowing fuse. Unplugged patch harness and re plug steering y harness. Everything works fine ... please Help ... dont want to see the 1K NsV just for hood ornament. Thanks

 

Did you ever figure out what your issue was? I lost mine over the weekend after installing new headlights. Everything else still functions.

 

If you lost your swipe during lock n unlock. You probably did something on the harness that connects the signal light.if you did put it back to the original placement of the wire

 

Check your fuse box under the drivers side and look for the fuse “TAIL”

 

Got it working ... thanks to @ElNopal !!! Great dude .. had to re pin my turn signal plugs since dealer had a recall on them.
