The wife and I have been tossing around the idea of getting an RV in the not too distant future... and obviously want the biggest we can safely tow with the Tundra.

The truck is lifted 3" and has 35" 12-ply Nitto tires on it.

I've got many years of towing experience... with everything from 1/2 ton Chevy's to big block duallys... and from coast to coast multiple times.

I know the taller tires will have a negative effect on the final drive ratio... so my gut is telling me to keep it between 5k and 7k max.
I plan to upgrade the rear leafs or add airbags and will be using a WD hitch/sway control obviously.

    Just looking for opinions.

I'm towing 3000lbs on 35's with a 6 inch lift and I definitely feel it back there. 7000 on 35's can be done, but not easy..

I'm towing 4200lbs with a 27" travel trailer and I have a spacer 3" lift (stock leafs). It levels the truck out when it's hooked up and I have 35" BFG A/T KO2. I run an anti-sway hitch when I have the trailer hooked up. Pulls just fine and I have taken it screaming up a steep incline for a couple miles without the temps moving from normal. Also kept it in manual gear select to keep the transmission from making unnecessary changes and adding heat.

I think it rides just fine. No issues bottoming out the hitch if I hit a good rut in the road. I did upgrade the brakes and pads to the beefiest my local Autozone had. Big difference in stopping power and some peace of mind if you need to back off the trailer braking or (it happened) if the trailer brakes don't engage. Stock brakes felt like mush to me.

If it is in budget I would highly recommend renting one for a weekend that is in your ideal range. Nothing will inform you like getting your hands on it. Let us know what you decide on!

I tow a 23 ft camping trailer I’m guessing but probably weighting 5500 loaded. Took it up to Hanna Flats in Big Bear area a week ago. No problem, just gas mileage sucks, averaged about 5 Mpg going up the mountain. I’m running 35’s and considering going 37’s.
Have also taken up to June lake this past summer, with no problems

Towed my old racecar across the Rockies multiple times and from Colorado to California, whole setup was over 8000lbs. Not that I'm saying to tow something that heavy, but 35s and stock gearing/engine and it pulled great I thought. Eventually added air bags and upgraded brakes and a supercharger, but no complaints when stock. I wouldn't be too concerned about "de-rating performance" when jumping to a 35.

I don’t have experience towing before upgrading but I’m running 35” Nitto Ridge Grapplers on 20s. Upgraded brakes with Power Stop kit was a must. Also using a blue ox WDH and Airlift 5000 air bags. Toytec BOSS with 3” in front and 2” block on the back. With the air bags I’m upgrading to a shackle set up to get back to stock rake to clear the internal jounce bumper when unloaded and get a better ride. Towing a Winnebago Micro Minnie 2306 so up to around 7k lbs. did well through the Sierras on the way back. On the way there I had bad brake configuration/management combined with a gnarly pass and lost the brakes. Just tow in Tow/Haul mode S4(S5 on flats) and keep an eye on tranny temps. You should be okay at 7k lbs.
