Figured I'd post this here for anyone on the fence about purchasing their own DA polisher and have thought about the Griot's Garage G9 DA (with lifetime warranty, this is key). While I'll keep this brief as possible, skip to the end for a summary.

For those who frequent this subsection of the forum, you know I polish and detail quite a few cars a week as a "part-time" business. It started as a hobby talking to folks on this forum to at least one polishing job a week. So this is prefaced with my HOBBYIST Griot's G9 polisher has been put through quite a bit. It has been dropped, accidentally sprayed with a hose (my daughter is a psycho), and put through the absolute ringer. The G9 is advertised as being able to achieve professional results, but is mainly for the hobbyist.

This past Monday I was completing a polishing job on the rocker panels of a pickup and the throttle lock button fell off the machine. This wouldn't be an issue, except the button is anchored by threaded rod. Without the button on, the rod can fall back into the machine and lock unwillingly. Longish story short, I swapped to my Dewalt rotary and another combo of pads and finished the job.

Fast forward to today, I called Griot's Garage in regards to this issue. After 5 minutes on the phone, I had a prepaid packing label in my email inbox to be printed. Was told they will send me a brand new machine free of charge and it will be shipped once they receive the old machine no questions asked. I have a job this Saturday again which sucks because I love using that DA vs the rotary (less is more for certain jobs) and won't receive the new one until next week, but overall I'm insanely satisfied.

Summary: You won't regret a Griot's Garage polisher. Quality results, user-friendly, and they back their lifetime warranty. So satisfied, I just placed an order for their G21 long-throw orbital with another 5" BOSS backing plate and going to use the replacement G9 as a back-up for scenarios like this.

Even with the days lost this is an example of great customer service and a tribute to the quality of that machine. It’s a pia but man the end result is awesome.

Good customer service is hard to find these days. I need to try some Griots stuff on mine. Has the young lady caught any fish yet? or still just cleaning them....

That's awesome. She will love it. Great smile in the pic that you posted. Mine (stepdaughters) are 14 and 16 and don't want to do anything if it doesn't involve a phone in their hand. Drives me nuts so I find chores for them to do lol.

Griots Garage customer service is top shelf. I'm going to get one of the new G15s, and keep my old GG6 as a backup.

Got the new G9 in yesterday. Brand new and crispy, way sooner than expected. Again, 10/10 for Griot's Garage customer service.

Anyone have an issue where the G9 just quits working?

I've only used it about 16 hours. Went to polish a windscreen on a motorcycle and it was working fine, would start up and quit. Tried multiple sockets for power and no difference. Won't even start now. Any suggestions or should I contact them to get it replaced?

Kinda bummed, the weather is cooling off and I was going to polish a few vehicles before the snow falls.

Contact them. They will take care of the problem. I'm guessing its the brushes.

A read a few issues with the plug in end at the polisher not being fully secured and clipped in.

Every manufacturer has issues. I'm sure if you take the time to research the G9, you will find more positive than negative. Griots Garage customer service will stand behind their products and resolve this problem.

Guess it depends on what you are looking for. G9 is a great polisher for it's size and price. If you are wanting something more long throw, 15/21mm, Shinemaster is great as well

This is a legitimate issue Griot's knows about. My second replacement for the G9 had a different design port.

I've had the trigger lock fail twice internally. Sucks but Griot's will take care of you. I pushed customer service the second time to send me the polisher first before sending mine in because I needed it for a job. They obliged (typically send yours then they send you a return).

For me specifically a failure isn't the end as I also have a G8 and mainly utilize a Dewalt rotary. So it didn't bother me as much. I can see the frustration if its your only tool though.

Griot's sent me a return label to send back the G9. Once they receive it they'll send a new one. Great customer service!

Glad you got it worked out. They're a solid company to deal with. I plan on getting their 15 and 21 long throw machines next year because of how they handled the G9 issues.

Agreed. I'll probably end up buying the G8 or the GR3 to get to those areas I can't get with the G9.

I recently got the G8 and paired them with 3" LC flat pads. Works out great. Going to pickup a set of 2" pads shortly as well, just waiting to justify the cost. Just dropped $250 on an entire workup of LC HDO pads lmao.
