I have ALWAYS changed the oil filter with every oil change. Am I the only one? I never saw a reason for the "Without Filter" capacity.

    You a
    You are correct.

This is incase of a drain and fill situation for some special circumstance, like a drain and fill due to over filling or something.

Not changing out the filter each normal oil change is extremely foolish.

Btw, just noticed my dealer oil change sticker says come back in 5k miles.
So much for Toyota's 10k oil service claims lol.
Not that I was going to run ANY oil more then 5k or 6k miles before a change.
Oil going farther then 5k miles is a also a gimmick in my experience.
Dirty is dirty, run time =dirty, and oil abilities break down over time also.

Magnets in your oil filter is also a very good way to keep your engine clean inside.
Though some claim to let the tiny metal shavings circulate helps seal leaks, and fill gaps between worn parts as they shave off tiny pieces due to wear over time.

I have done with and without, and can not see any issues yet either way, other than magnets keep the engine hella cleaner.
I use them on my motorcycle engines currently.

How am I supposed to measure 7.9 or 8.4??? Not like it's easy to do it from a 2x5 qrt jug. SMH genius engineers at work.

Toyota needs to sell a jug for idiots like me that shows both measurements since they're engineered so we'll

    LOVE your avatar!
    One Punch Man!

Oil jugs usually have markings on the side and a clear section so you can see the level.
If not, on your 2nd jug, only poor about half or 3/4 into the truck, then check the level and add slowly till its full.

It's not rocket science my friend, you can do it!

Oh yes, now i get it lol.

I thought we are waiting on Season 3 now?
Or the finale of this season, with the monster king I think.
I only care about the animated show, comic books/manga are boring to me and I stopped reading those almost 20 years ago.

Yea, every vehicle takes different amounts of oil. Engines are weird that way lol.

My 2012 tundra takes 8.4q-8.5q Of 0W-20. With crappy OEM oil filter change. (Amsoil filter and Mobile 1 filter Catches smaller material) I only use Pennzoil Syn high miles.(I used to run royal purple oil years ago thinking it was better)

my truck isn’t a daily driver anymore. I still change the oil every 6 months even though i put between 3-6k miles on it a year.

My 2017 5.7 with tow package, unlifted, takes 8.5 with OEM filter.

i had been thinking changing to 5w30 M1 for the summer, but my oil analysis came back from Blackstone showing the engine is doing fantastic at 50k with 0w20 M1, that it was outdoing itself with very low wear materials.

i change at either 6mos or 3k, whichever comes first.

My daily driver is a Camry, and yes, I do! I also love my truck, which I use to tow my 7,000# camper and as a truck when hauling things. My wife loves it too, so occasionally gets duty on date night.

Meant to say you must really love your truck changing the M1 at 3K miles! :D
Since you are towing, it doesn't sound as conservative but you must have a nice and clean engine.

My 2014 1794 4x4 takes 8.5. My truck is leveled. I wonder uf that's why some need more oil to show full.

So here's my 2 cents. I have a tow package... a-ha! My girl takes NINE QUARTS OF OIL to fill to the dip stick full line. Not 7.9 not 8 not 8.5 N I N E. This is an issue of constant argument with mechanics who can't believe the internet or the manual is actually WRONG in my case anyway.

I put in 8qt and I move on, as the manual says 7.9qt and I don't like having 0.1qt sitting around.

I never check the dip stick afterward.

I will add that 20 some years ago, well, close to 30 I guess, I changed the oil on one of my first cars.

I forgot to put the oil plug in and proceeded to pour 4 quarts of oil through to the ground.

After that I always make sure the plug is in, and I always make sure there isn't a "leak".

And because I also had an experience with someone putting an additional 4 quarts in an already full engine (look up spy hunter smoke screen), I'm also extremely careful to make sure I put 8, only 8, and not less than 8 in.

That plus no oil on the ground, out of the plug, or out of the filter means all 8 are in the truck. So all must be well!

Checking fluid levels as routine is different than checking fluid levels when you know you put 8qt in there, and it didn't pour through to the ground.

You're on an island with not checking your dipstick after changing your oil even jiffy lube does that. If you put in 8 quarts in and your dipstick is only at the halfway point are you just going to leave it there because the manual said?

That's what I've done for 20 years now. Isn't anywhere between "high and low" satisfactory?

Are you going to put in more oil because the dip stick indicated it was "low", and risk overfilling it? I've seen first hand what happens if you put too much oil in.

There's apparently a lot of leeway here if people can put in up to 10 quarts w/o an issue.

Yes, if I'm at low, i fill to full. That's why they have low and full marks. You're not going to over fill by filling to where it says to on the stick, that's why the stick is there. This is my guide for my truck.
    6 quarts low mark
7 quarts almost in the middle
8 quarts to the full mark
After running need to add .5 to get back to full mark so capacity with oil and filter is 8.5qts

The manual says 7.9. I'm putting in 7.9 (well, 8).

    The stick can be wrong/misread.
