I recently went with a tire/wheel package from Tire Rack.com. I had the 20's with the OEM Bridgestones, and downsized to a 255/75/17 with Cooper Discoverer AT3. The picture is driving from Ridgway, Colorado to Montrose. 65mph at 6000feet.
Not going to complain getting 20mpg+ when its only rated for 17 highway.

    Yup, pizza cutters ftw.

Been toying with the idea if 35x10.5x17 on my truck. Cant get the nerve to do it because I dont feel the tire im looking at in that size will have very good wet traction.

Toyo AT III makes a 35x11.5x17 I believe. I run 285/75R18 Toyo AT III and love them.

Stock pizza cutters 275/65/18, I might move up to 275/70/18, the tallest skinnies available.

How do we define skinny just so I am on the same page. I run a 285/75R18 which is 11.5(ish) wide and depending on brand around 34.5-34.9 high.

@Zero One Actual to me, anything that is narrower than a 12.5 wide tire is a skinny. I think the only 35 that is skinny, is 285/75/18 I like that size too, post a pic I wanna see......

@Samoan Thor, One pic with bronze SCS wheels is the Cooper AT3 XLT 285/75R18. The gold methods are the Toyo AT III same size. I am on Bilstein 6112 (aka the forum specials) top setting up front, and Icon reservoir shocks in the rear with coachbuilder +3 shackles and firestone airbags (I have a Leitner Cargo System and Decked drawer system for trips and can get heavy).

3/4” less width isn’t the main contributor here. What’s more important is that by going from a 20” wheel to a 17” wheel, you’ve decreased rotational mass substantially. A 17” tire is also lighter than a 20” tire due to less need for steel belting in the sidewall.

Had the AT3 previously, dont like their lack of a 3-ply sidewall.

Yep. I like the TRD rims and quite frankly I like pizza cutters. I used to run with flotation tires back in the day on my Jeep mainly because I'd hit the sand dunes a lot and muddy logging roads in Orygun. I had 34.5" Coopers on my 07. 295/75/18's. Pretty good but from my experience pizza cutters just seem to do better in the snow, perform just fine in the occasional sand, and great up on these old mining roads here. Skids are a must though and 3 ply sidewalls.

My Patagonia M/T's are E rated with armored sidewalls so still heavy but have performed superbly so far. The rubber compound is soft so I don't expect to get high mileage with them but I only average 9K miles a year and they are wearing quite well so far. Great in rocky conditions and surprisingly quite well in deep snow when aired down a bit. Not much mud here though.

@NWPirate looks good! Have you noticed a power loss with that tire size? What are your MPGs? It doesn’t worry me but just curious

75 and 85 aspect ratio tires are just about my favorites. I ran 235/85s on everything from my WJ, to my 80 series and then a Mistu Montero. When I finally upgrade the tires and wheels on my Tundra, definitely going with some narrower tires.

These are some OG pizza cutters my old man used to run back in the 70s in East Glacier.

Gasoline is staggeringly inexpensive. Time to worry less about MPG and more about FPG (fun per gallon).

Kuul on the wheel and tire swapparoony.

Are you unsure because you’re not really happy with the Tokyo’s or is there another reason. I’ve been seriously considering putting AT III’s n my truck when the time comes.
