I dunno, never had Seafoam do that to any vehicle I own. I've been using it for 2+ decades now across multiple vehicles.

I had something stupid like this happen recently. After the factory alternator burned up, then caught fire, got replaced with a Denso reman alternator, I had my local shop do it because it happened the 2nd day into a 7-day work week where I was working 12-14 hour shifts every day, but I needed my truck STAT.

Short story long, had a friend coming into town 3 weekends later. Had just driven somewhere an hour or so prior, parked. Friend called to pick him up at the train station, so I jumped back in the truck, turn the key forward ... everything went dead, the way a vehicle goes dead when the batt cable isn't tight. Like, when I pulled the key back out, then put it in, turned to ACC position, all-clocks-reset-to-12:00-type-dead.

I tried 4-5 more times in succession, same result. So, frustrated and in a rush so I don't keep my friend waiting, I got out of the truck, popped the hood to check the cables. Cables were tight af. "WTF!??". Close the hood. Text my friend and tell him, "Truck won't start. Need a minute".

Tried to figure out how I would diagnose this for the next couple of minutes. Then, still in disbelief since the truck has literally never failed me, I jumped in the truck and turned it over. Started up, no problem.

That was like a year ago now. I still have no idea what the hell caused it. It made me nervous as shit b/c it felt very electrical-gremlin-ish to me. Coming such a short time after going to the mechanic, I also suspected maybe they didn't reattach a ground cable correctly, or didn't tighten something else enough when replacing the alternator, but my mechanic has never failed me before in this way. I'd never replaced an alternator on these trucks, so I wouldn't even know what fasteners to check.

Anyway, it hasn't happened again. I still have no idea wtf that was about. I suspect alternator because it was the most recent thing. But who knows? (I wish I did) Best I can do is clutch at straws.

Oh, and if anyone can think of what may have caused my issue, I'm all ears.

Do you pour it in the crankcase also? I've never had an issue putting it in the gas tank but this was the first time I ever added it to the crankcase.

See that's different than what I experienced. My truck wouldn't roll over. It was trying to start but definitely seemed like it wasn't getting any fuel. When it finally started it sounded horrible! It made noises I've never heard before.

Usually a couple hundred miles before oil changes, via the oil fill cap. Had a conversation with someone on here (Pucks?) about this some time back because of a "wtf? you put that in your oil? that sounds like a bad idea!" type comment. I linked him up with the Project Farm YouTube video since that guy does such a great job of showing off the product and how well it works applied to gas, oil and intake.

Yeah, when I read your post, it sounded like yours was cranking at least, mine wouldn't even begin to turn over. Like, when I kicked the key from ACC all the way forward into the start position, everything went dead. It felt very much like what happens if you don't have enough juice left in a battery, you see your accessory lights come on, but the second your vehicle needs to pull those extra amps *POOF* it all goes dark. Pull the key out, re-insert, turn to ACC, everything in the dash lit up, kick it forward to start, *POOF* it all goes dark again.

Two totally different cases, I only mention it because of the one similarity: It happened unexpectedly, out of the blue, less than 50-100 miles after a major service event (alternator replace), shortly after I'd just driven somewhere and the truck was sitting for 30-60 minutes, and it's never happened again since. I blamed the alternator install at first, but held off on accusing my mechanic until I could fathom why, and check all of the connections they would've touched. But it never happened again, so I never bothered.

But I still have that eating at the back of my mind. And I'd still love to understand what connections they would've touched related to power, so I can double-check eventually. Don't want anything arc'ing out.

Wow, that is scary! So what's the best solution other than driving with hi beams on? A light bar? I want a set of these retros but I don't believe I'll get flashed any less than I already do if I run hi beams more than necessary. I suppose this isn't quite as big an issue driving in the city

I have a light bar tied into the high beams.
    20200713_194146.jpg

With the old light scattering leds I could see the headlights in the light bar beam. Now it all blends together for improved long distance sight.

I need to figure out how to run my fogs with the high beams to get more "immediate" light.

Favorite part of owning a 1st gen is when I'm pulling out of a parking lot and that big ol radiator fan gets to screaming when I'm in 1st gear. Have always loved that noise

It might be just a wee bit. Could be the parking lot too.

Could be that my fat ass has already worn out the new strut

You may be right but the timing is suspicious. It happened almost immediately after I added the Seafoam. I found all kinds of comments on reddit from mechanics saying they would use caution on older engines. Others swore it was perfectly safe. Who knows :notsure:

There is virtually no chance the seafoam caused that if you only put it in the crankcase and gas tank (at recommended levels)....now if you did the the vacuum intake procedure with it, then I'd say your suspicion would be significantly more warranted...

Laughed when I saw this walking out of Home Depot yesterday.

Just looking for affirmation per the best Timing Belt Kit.

Many here have recco’d the Aisin Kit on Big Gurrl. Reviews look solid, except a few saying the Water Pump Failed before 10k miles. Installer error?

TBK has a nice kit which costs a few more dollars. The water pump is not Aisin, but is NTN which makes most Japanese Pumps.

Coming in at twice the cost (apples to apples) over the others mentioned is the Stealer. There are a few other items outside of TB which will need purchasing from Stealer which cannot be obtained elsewhere and is not negotiable.

    What say you?

Sure is. My co-worker likes to rip, and tear down roads. I tell him his luck is going to run out one day, and it doesn't matter what kinda schmancy smensnors you've got, "luck will not be on your side."

I thought double cab was wider than access cab. If I have that right, you'll need to know if the seats are wider or the consol.

Unfortunately I see this sort of thing all the time. Every other time I hit a gas station I see a woman pumping gas while the dude is sitting on his phone. I see it at Home Depot and stores in general a lot too, I just don't get it.

    Maybe I really am old.

Feels good having all my homework done. Printed up all the FSM Timing Belt Pages. Been studying Faraday Cages and it gives me hope on just leaving my Crank Sensor nick alone as it was repaired the other day. Basically, as long as there is still adequate shielding in place (even when nicked) AND the shield is still grounded properly then the interference will be blocked. At least this is my hope. :D

Truck has been running great and I’m hesitant to go splicing wires (breaking the full shield/ground) and causing a mangle event.
