No matter how many ham radio operators tell you it’s ok to NMO mount an antenna through your roof and drive offroad, don’t listen to them.

Mostly because you’ll forget it’s up there and then drive into your garage with it up - then it won’t be up anymore.

This did not work at all. I was trying to flatten it out. Nope.

Eventually I managed to get a bolt stuck in the roof before it was all the way right. I galled a nut onto it. So I drove across town with the headliner hanging down on my head and a buddy helped back the nut off and we built this little R2-D2 looking droid for the roof.

Drilled in a new mount behind the original and promised to never drive into the garage again. Which I never did. Instead I drug it under a tree and bent the new one. It didn’t pull all the way out, so I left it and stopped using that mount.

Now we use a mag mount on the hood like a magestic fuckin unicorn.

There have been quite a few stories of the family pet gone ham bone 1day, then you keep reading and find out the family pet was a tiger, bear, chimp or some other wild animal.
Complacency is evil, it will do you in eventually

    Tipsy building.
We recently closed on a home. The previous owner erected a "closet" in the office. Built on top carpet, this masterpiece was held together by four different kinds of fasteners ranging from general construction #8 to drywall screws. Even a sheet metal screw. Also, the "framing" consisted of alder 2x4's, pressure treated 2x4's, random rotted former exterior trim and shims glued together to account for "measuring errors".

Don't not use your e-brake! I re-learned today that you should use your emergency brake once in a while. ~$200 later and my Tundra passed its NYS inspection - with a working e-brake. Doh!

Unless you're in Canada. Then the owner's manual says not to use it in winter.
