Ive got maybe 20 trucks saved in my app. Mostly 14-18 model years. One im most interested in is an 2018 cement 4x4 crewmax. Are the 14’s-18’s essentially the same? Any issues with the 2018 model?? If i can locate a 2020 cement i may see what the dealer will do $ but havent found that color in the few dealers close by. Ive heard of a recall on some 18 and 19 but carfax says no recalls on this one.

IMO you cannot go wrong with any of those years. And I love cement! Wish I had gone that route instead of black

I’d say you go either 2017 or 2018.

2017 if you don’t want to deal with TSS
2018 if you don’t mind TSS and the radar.
2019+ transmission cooler issue. Toyota says it’s a non issue, but I’m a skeptic

Oh yea forgot about the lack of the tranny cooler on the 2019+

    ...that’s a real bummer

I think people have done it in the past by signing a waiver through Toyota to deactivate it. But I have not heard of a way to deactivate it yourself. If you are really against the TSS, then you should pick up a 2017. I have it on my 2018 and have not ran into issues with it. Overall, I'm totally fine with it.

2017 cement pro. No TSS. Still has a tranny cooler. You can do whatever you want to it and not worry about any sensors or recalibration.

Love it or hate it, the TSS saves you $ on your insurance. Just saying...

Trucks went downhill from 2013. If wanting something newer, would not look more recent than 2017.

Did the 17's get radar cruise or was that added along with the TSS? FWIW i have an 18 SR5 CrewMax (cement) and have had 0 issues with TSS even on 34" tires and a small lift. I would have 0 hesitation about getting an 18 again, but can't say that other years wouldn't be just as good. I love this thing. 2.5 years later and I still love the cement color.

If you're close to Denver, Colorado Mountain States Toyota had a great website / great prices when i was shopping. (i got 6k off MSRP for new SR5 with no haggling)

    Goodluck.

Somewhere along the line the rear seats went from fold down to fold up. some folks prefer the older fold down version due to the ability to recline and store stuff behind them. Someone more knowledgeable than I will have to tell you when that was.

In alot of areas, the used ones are priced as high and even higher than new ones. I just found my truck by going to Toyota.com and selecting what I wanted based on zip code.

Its supposed to be an integrated tranny cooler but I havent looked into it yet. My 20 comes in tonight or tomorrow. I think the new radio on the 20's shows temps but I'm not sure. My wife has a 2020 4Runner....Ill have to play with it.

Your TSS doesn't have radar cruise?

It does have an integrated transmission cooler, but is not adequately cooling the transmission. There is a separate thread that goes into full details about it where no loads both pre and post tundras have a temp of about 180-190s. Under loads, 2018 and older have temps that hover around 200 degree where the 2019 and probably 2020s are in the low 210-225 and some reporting 245 degrees.

The concern is that extra heat up to 20% higher that makes me skeptical of the longevity of the newer tundras.

Go with '16 or newer, I think that's when the 38 gallon fuel tank option became available.

    Wish my '15 had one.

38 gal only available on 5 seaters. Also not on every 2016 either.

The comments about TSS are over blown. I have a 2018 and have not had an issue since there was an early TSB done to reseal the sensor (free). The radar cruise is an awesome feature and makes long drives much easier.

2018 have a better display than 14-17, LED headlights (which are fantastic), and TSS / radar cruise.

I guess I have the TSS on my 18 Platinum. It’s all turned off and I don’t even know it’s there. It’s not like some systems where you have to manually turn it off each start up. Turn it off, and it stays off.

Radar / adaptive cruise is super handy. I never used normal cruise, but adaptive cruise changed my opinion.

2020’s get push button start, CarPlay, and proximity entry.

My 18 does have radar cruise. I was questioning whether pre-tss model years had radar cruise available.

Gotcha. I dont think they did. I think TSS was an all inclusive packaged system.

16-17, 38 gallon tank and no tss. the tss on the 18 can be turned off but a light will show up on your dash, which is irritating for me.
