What is the difference in size between the 2006 and 2007 double cab Tundra? For example, length of truck; length of bed; width; and wheelbase? Is the 2007 that much larger than its 2006 predecessor?
    Thanks, Ron

    2006 'double cab' = 2 full doors, 2 3/4 doors
    length - 230.1"
    width - 79.7"
    wheelbase - 140.5"
    bed length - 74.4"

    2007 'double cab' = 2 full doors, 2 1/2 doors
    length - 228.7"
    width - 79.9"
    wheelbase - 145.7"
    bed length - 67.2" - 79.2"

all this can be found with a simple google search...

2007+ full 4 door tundra was renamed to 'crew max' and double cab was like the bigger access cab sizing.

Well maybe true but not really all to helpful either not that my reply was much more so?

As you sure know the early ones are smaller than full size and the 2007 and newer are FULL SIZE trucks all the way.

Anyone looking at these needs to learn for themselves which is anything but challenging before making an educated choice.

The numbers make them seem similar somehow and they are anything but similar in most ways.

I really was not trying to be nasty but understand if you think I was.
I also talk about exactly how the specs do not represent the differences in the trucks in almost any way, don't you agree?

I think if the OP can find pics of the 2 gens side by side it is pretty obvious how different they are.

Here is a 1st gen with a Tacoma for a start

The first gen is like a "right sized" larger Tacoma with a V-8. The second gen (including the third? its a refresh, not a new truck for goodness sakes) Is more like a Peterbuilt semi with a truck bed. Exaggeration of course, but truly a Yuuuge truck in comparison. Cabin room and bed depth are two areas it feels massive in comparison. It drives like a huge truck. The 1st Gen had the capabilities of full size trucks at the time, but came in a slightly more compact, easier to drive in my opinion package (sometimes referred to as 7/8 full size). I really like the Tacoma. Great truck. Just too small and underpowered. The first Gen Tundy solved those problems. I can't imagine getting rid of mine. No one makes a truck like this today.

By comparison, the 2nd gen is a 1st gen on steroids.
The 1st gen pictured is 4WD, the 2nd gen is RWD.

The interior on the 2nd gen or 07 is much roomier than the 06 or first gen.

Not sure I agree with the above 07 DC description of "Two - 1/2 doors" referring to the rear doors. They function like a full door to me; just not as big as the crewmax rear doors.

I actually own both right now but can not get pics right now too.
Each has its strengths for sure but the newer one is just bigger in every way.

And I amm not angry at all but it seems fair to me to try to actually compare the two where the numbers just tell a small part of the story.

Not sure I am getting rid of either of mine though I had planned to recently for sure.

Yeah. Have a few buddies that own the Turd Gens. They wish they had 1st Gen. Some even tried the little Taco first to fill the void and then ended up in Turds. Two fails in a row. :D

Wasn't sure how to take what you were saying, sorry. I DO agree though, that even though the numbers are very close they are way different in size in real life. I know for a fact a stock 2nd gen + won't fit in my garage as my 1st gen does.

Have owned 01 Access cab, 2010 double cab, and now 18 crewmax.

Dont miss a single thing about the 1st gen compared to the 10 or 18. 1st gen was a great truck, no doubt, but became obsoleted in every metric with the new Tundra in 07.

I have an 06 Double Cab and a 20 Double Cab, both bought brand new.

Maybe I'm imagining it, but the 20 seems to have a tighter turning radius and I'm all about that.

I loved the '06 but, so far, liking the 20 just as much.

One thing that is killing me is the chrome around the shifter, the sun hits that at the right angle and is constantly blinding me. Any nice solutions to this?

Get a stubby antennae and paint your sway bar red. :D

Seriously, you could paint that with some type of matte finish in your choice of color. Plenty of threads in the Turd Gen Section on it.

I see most people seem to prefer the newer truck for modern conveniences and the 5.7.

Modern conveniences? Pfff. Just more shit to go wrong. That's why I prefer my older vehicles. My gf's 15 SHO the AC just randomly shuts off when it's hot outside, and the backup camera decided it wants to be upside down. My 91 doesn't have those problems.

As for the 5.7, more power is more power. Can't argue that.

Since the discussion has gone beyond the difference in size, I'll comment on other differences. The 1st gen Tundra are engineered better than 2nd gen trucks, the Japanese engineering influences are less noticeable in 2nd gen trucks and that's not a good thing. The 2nd gen offers more features (mostly electronic whistles & bells), but the 1st gen are put together better. I love the 5.7L, 4 wheel disc, tighter turning circle and larger dials, handles & levers the heavier 2nd gen offers, but the lighter 1st gen offers a smoother, quieter ride... it's more refined. If I had to let one of my trucks go, I would let the 2nd gen go and keep driving the 1st gen Tundra.

Lol, only on a Tundra forum will you ever hear someone knocking a 2nd gen+ as having too many modern conveniences when it hasn’t changed in a decade and a half and is notorious for lacking modern conveniences.

Gotta give HQ credit, they know their demo haha.

2nd gen Tundra do have more 'modern conveniences' than 1st gen Tundra... less is more.

The only opinions that matter here are the ones from people than have OWNED both
Everyone else, including myself, has a bias toward whatever gen we own

With that said, I LOVE my 2nd gen RCSB
    It's the perfect truck IMO

I only need 2 seats as our family/wifeys vehicle is a Sienna
I'll be keeping it as long as I can
