thats not it.. the break a way emergency brake is all or nothing.. there is a pin connected to the wire.. pull the pin and you will get full brakes on the trailer powered by the trailer batteries...

How firm is the suspension on this trailer? Is it adjustable where you can soften it for road use? I used to drive 18-wheelers, we call this phenomena "backslap". Forward and aft movement of the truck when you hit bumps on the road, causing you to slap your back against the back of the seat. Usually happens when we have trailers with leaf springs. Most trailers now have airbags on them and those smooth out the ride whether the trailer is heavy or light.

But anyways, if your trailer have a very firm suspension, this can cause it.

The emergency brake wire is not it. Thanks for the clarification, hoping for a silver bullet there. Pretty new model for Winnebago. Suspension is standard Winnebago shackle leaf spring. Getting after it tonight so more to report later

Yeah, I was hoping the same.
You probably should reroute the EB cable though. It has to be shorter than the safety chains or won't engage in an emergency.

Last two days hitched her up and went out on the road. Brake assist was dialed down to 4.5. Blue OX gave up a link first time out. Then was reset with an extra link next time out. Extra link helped a ton, pun intended. BTW tires at 43 all the way around bumped up to 50 in the back. She rides so much better BIG difference. BTW the truck pulls this trailer no prob either way. Going for a 40 mile "pull" later today, just cuz practice makes perfect. Next week off to the Lake. Really appreciated the knowledgeable and insightful help on this forum.

To be clear, you increased or decreased the amount of "work" your weight distribution hitch is doing? I didn't follow the "extra link" and which direction you went.

The dealer had us put the 7th link in the "fork" on the Ox. We were able to load one more link, an 8th, and then still lock it in position. The process is to count down from the loose end. The last 3 practice trips were much improved.

So you put more tension on the chain? Sorry, I don't know why I am not following. Perhaps I need to compare your WDH to mine.

See post #6 for WDH configuration. Shortening the chain (circled below) on the WDH lifts the bar relative to the trailer frame and cranks a clockwise (in the photo) moment force into the truck's hitch receiver and truck frame, causing the trailer tongue weight to be transferred to the front suspension. The effect of the WDH (Weight Distributing Hitch) is to "distribute" tongue weight, or payload, from the rear suspension to the front suspension more or less equally.

Toyota's recommendation is that the front fender height remain the same before and after hitching, implying that the WDH is overcoming the tendency of the front suspension to be unloaded (rise) by the tongue weight. IMO, a slight fractional inch reduction in the front ride height would be necessary to actually increase the front axle loading. The objective is to balance the payload between the two axles.

Understood. I suppose I am trying to confirm that the solution was to go from 7 links from loose end to 8 links from loose end, thus, more tension.

For some reason, on of my runs, I felt the push/pull or porpoising was less when I reduced the tension provided by WDH. However, I did also find the porpoising was reduced with more gear loaded to the front of the trailer (more tongue weight). So, far, I have never experienced any sway or excessive sway associated with too much weight in the rear.

I have yet to hit the scales. There are not any scales near me, so it would take a good deal of time to load up and measure all my different weights.

He said they were counting from the "loose" end, so an INCREASE in the number of links from the loose end is a DECREASE (or shortening) of the number of links between WDH bar and trailer frame.

He should probably still use scales to check the tongue weight as a percentage of trailer weight, and to verify truck axle loadings are still under limits.

An add on we are camping this weekend. Just 3 days but the point is I will be loading up trailer and truck bed with several items. Very interested to see any effect this may have. I will report my observations. Also will find a scale for weight check .... soon

Ok so 536 miles to Lake Nacimiento and back. Left early Friday and back Sunday at 4pm. Everything worked very well. Double-checked loading and unloading the Blue Ox bars.Went up the I5 and back the 101. Grapevine was no issue and drove James Dean memorial hwy on the way in. The campground was 50% full and it was a very good weekend. The Tundra pulled like a champ and the stabilizing bars did their job very well. Again thanks to all for the insight and help.
