    Or www.car-part.com

Make sure to search for same year, engine, drive type (2w/4w) and body style as yours. If you can get the VIN from the site for the vehicle you're looking at, you can run it through here to find out the truck's specs, understand whether it's like yours. This way you're not flailing around aimlessly.

I'd also say, not all Toyo mechs are created equal. I have a dealership south of me with some real idiots, and a world-class terrible service station that's plagued with bad management for years. If you get one from a junkyard via car-part.com and it still doesn't work, there's a concrete chance they just misdiagnosed it from the getgo! At least buying used you're not out beacoup cashola on a brand new part when you have a working old part.

So I ended up finding a replacement in the part out section of this forum. Still not working.

Since I was taking my truck in for a suspension rebuild, I told my mechanic to check out the ac problem. Just like Toyota, he says the clutch engages.

He did find a leak in the condenser, though. He’s says that could be the reason it is blowing warm. Fingers crossed that he’s right.

I bought the truck for 5k and have about 5k into it so far. Starting to get buyers remorse....

The simple math is these trucks age has them coming up on major reinvestments. You are still better off than having a $600+ turd payment for 5 years!

I’m at around $7k outlay in two and a half years time (a turd down payment) plus no personal prop taxes!

    Good point.

Just got a call from the mechanic. They installed a new condenser but are now saying that it’s still blowing warm because the evaporator is clogged. He wants another $550 for that :(

Those two usually go together as a one time proper fix. Hopefully no cross contamination has occurred.

WTF? How did that not show up when they were checking low/hi side pressure? If something was clogged, they should've clearly seen they were getting no or limited pressure on one side of the system. If that didn't fix the problem, how are they charging you for parts and labor?

Furthermore, how did they NOT notice something was wrong when vacuuming the lines? HVAC is a "closed" (but flowing) system. If something is clogged, that should clearly show up when testing pressure on one side or the other, eh? Next thing you know they're going to say the orifice tube or expansion valve is clogged. Sounds like you're getting worked!

He said the condenser was leaking and had to fix that leak. Once the leak was fixed they were able to find the evaporator was clogged.

You answered your question. Seems many of our AC problems on our trucks start this way. Could be the method the Service Tech uses or the simple matter of debris dislodging during work and causing the secondary issue.

Either way this sucks. I am not an AC Tech so I am willing to be enlightened.

Finally got her back. So I guess Toyota was wrong with their Climate Control diagnosis. All that searching for the right part was a waste of time. After replacing condenser and evaporator core she is blowing cold, just in time for winter.

After seeing the condition of the hidden backside (between front of coolant radiator) of mine with the radiator off she was solid except down near the bottom. While gently cleaning, the coil fins were falling off at the mounting bracket area.

My truck is probably not too far behind you in this area.

I feel your pain brother. I'm going through a similar problem. I got my 2001 Tundra's AC checked out recently and was told the system works fine and I needed the climate control module. Magnetic clutch not engaging.

As we know they discontinued the part, however, they could get just the wire integration electrical board for $800. None in wrecking yards in San Diego County and no 2001 modules on ebay. I got a 2003 module and installed it. Same result. Fortunately I was able to return it.

I found 1800ecm.com in TX who rebuilt the board for $300. Reinstalled module and still no AC. I can see that the clutch is not engaging. Also I checked low line pressure and it registered warning.

I looked at the electrical schematics and am slowly figuring out how the clutch gets its Mojo. Anyone can help with getting this clutch to work? Thanks.

Have you checked the relay, almost all the issues I get at work are the relays just bad. It’ll say MG under the hood fuse box

My blower fan works. Someone posted earlier that if that's the case it's not the relay

Blower fan works fine. Was told by another member that the contacts for this relay also turn on the blower, if the blower is working but clutch not pulling in, problem can not be relay. Yes/no

hmm actually closer inspection to the diagram, the A/C clutch relay is part of the interior fuse block. chances of it having failed? no clue. but most other toyotas the magnetic clutch has its own relay.

its possible its just a bad compressor clutch.
