Crap, I don't know. I hear about about how shitty the ride is in the Tundra and I think it's quite comfortable. Maybe it's those Humvee rides in the Army but I think my Pro is pretty damn comfy. The pandemic hasn't allowed me to travel much in the 2020 Pro, but 4 of us drove our 2017 Pro from Central Texas to Northern Michigan and back and I don't remember bitching about anything. It was roomy as hell (a teen and my special needs brother-in-law rode in the backseat and didn't have any issues) and reliable. What sucked was the lack of climate control, moon roof, and electric passenger seat. They fixed all that with the 2020 Pro. Maybe I'm just easy but when I hit the gas, I've never had an issue with acceleration or speed. It gets me in traffic, around idiots, and back home again. I couldn't ask for a better vehicle for my family. I PRAY Toyota doesn't fall down the latest and greatest rabbit hole and continues to do what they are doing: Making a safe, reliable, and affordable truck for those of us who don't care about turning heads when we drive past. (Although, I can say that I've seen heads turn in every Tundra I've owned.)

Alright, it might be small enough that I need some extra torque and payload, but don't tell anybody. Okay?

I had a 2008 and could’ve easily gone to Ford or Ram when I bought my 18, but I came back because reliability (and surprisingly, upgradability) is really good on Tundras. When that “high tech” Ford/Ram is ancient in 5-7 years I can swap out the Infotainment on my Tundra to whatever the latest aftermarket option is.

As for the TRX, “Hellcat all the things” is awesome and I’m all for it. The Magnuson S/C is a pretty good option for Tundra to at least be in the same ballpark though.

A gas powered TRX with 702 HP can only manage 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. Tesla and Rivian trucks are going to crack 3 seconds, and they will be cheaper. If speed is what you're seeking, might as well go electric.

I'm not sure this is an entirely fair comparison. Aside from the 8 speed transmission, I would say the Silverado LT/RST and Sierra SLE/ Elevation would be more direct comparisons of the Tundra SR5. The Custom and Custom TB are just dressed up Work Trucks with bench seats (with no storage).

Agree w/pretty much everything here. I've never owned the 'fastest' truck of any kind when I've purchased. I mean, hell yes, like any other red-blooded American guy, I want a truck with moar power, but it's only part of the equation. Having owned several trucks, for me reliability is right at the top of the list. Features and 'some' capability (e.g., towing) are a distant second.

This isn't to say that I don't want to be able to tow more....but the vast majority of my towing is a 14' flatbed trailer. The biggest thing I'll EVER tow is a 24' camper; and even my '13 F150 had few issues towing that. The Tundra has more HP/TQ, and makes more of it down low, and has better gearing, than my F150 had. So I mean yeah, fresher updates and more features would be nice, but as long as it can do the job reliability, I'm happy. (Besides, when compared to the F150, pressing the tow/haul button actually *does* something. LOL)

Plus, some of the 'features' complaining is a bit silly in my book. I get that they've not been truly updated in a while...but in pretty much every other truck, the features are what people specifically have issues WITH. I'll gladly take fewer creature comforts as long as it means a more reliable truck.

And I agree on the head turning. In the 4 months I've owned my '20 Tundra, I've gotten more compliments than I've ever gotten on ALL of the vehicles I've owned put together.

Niche market for a leaser and the RAM enthusiast. Won’t own it, will rot like usual.

The only thing the other manufacturers have on the Tundra is the Girly interior crap that I don't want, available lockers, sway bar disconnect, and "factory" 35" tires on some high end models. Fuel mileage is too subjective and easily influenced by the operator for me to worry about.

I didn't think the Raptor would be successful when it was coming out, but I was wrong. I thought it would be a limited run. Curious to see if Dodge has the appetite to produce more of these, even the hellcat challenger has become fairly common lately.

As far as the truck goes, I wouldn't buy it either. Not even because I'm a Toyota guy, but because I'd never spend that much on a truck. I wouldn't even buy a new Tundra (no offense guys) because for my needs I can't justify $40-60k. Maybe after 5 years when the price/value is more settled.

They HAVE a reliable 8-speed transmission, in the Land Cruiser and the LX570. It's the AE80F, and it's even hooked up the 3UR-FE in those vehicles.

    Awww. Making me blush.

    Overkill is highly underrated.

My comments were really just for comedy. Properly accessible HP and torque is always nice to have, but when reliability is the number on priority, I gotta look in the Toyota direction. That said, if i had all my needs met, and the disposable income, I wouldn't buy the TRX. I'd way rather have a Tundra built out or get a fun, fast car for the itch this would be scratching.

I don't begrudge anyone buying one of these. They can spend their money on whatever they'd like. ;)

I agree. Although I might buy one if I had unlimited funds just to beat the daylights out of it.
