Have you hooked up a gage to watch your transmission temperatures while you're towing?

Get a Bluetooth OBD2 and something to read the transmission fluid temperatures.

I just shared my experience with a similar setup on our cross-country trip; highly recommend the E4!

    Not nearly enough room here!
You mean he shouldn't just stuff it in 'D' and let the transmission THINK for him?:thumbsup:

Towing 32', 8495 lb GVWR TT with E4 1k/10K Equalizer WDH (set up with 7 of 8 washers installed). Installed Roadmaster Active Suspension which helps porpoising over uneven roads. Air the Tundra tires to 45psi (vs 52psi max) and maintain speed at 60-65mph in S4 with Tow/Haul engaged - will go to S5 on level terrain. Run the OEM integrated brake controller at 9. Plan to install E rated tires when current tires need replaced. Tows well.

Do you know your GVW or GCW when towing that?

The 5.7L is really happiest towing at 3,000 rpm getting 9.5 - 10.5 mpg. The engine rpm's are not the issue, the transmission temps are the problem as others have said. I run at about 200F when the torque converter is locked in S4. When you are in automatic and shifting/downshifting between 4-5-6, you can see the temps rise rapidly to 250F+.

Last time I went to the CAT scale, the GCW was 14,260 lbs loaded vs max GCWR of 15,360 lbs. Never run with anything in the TT tanks and careful about loading the Tundra & the TT. Pretty much maxed out.

Just got home from my first trip with our new trailer. Jayco 29’ overall, probably 6000-6500 lbs, truck bed loaded. Averaged 8.8 mpg. Ride rite air bags set at 50 PSI. No WDH. I feel like I didn’t even need it. Truck handled it like a champ. Passing people easily on the inclines.
