Camburg lt kit, king coilovers, bypasses, and bumps, deaver i96 in rear, fab work by solo motorsports, super charger, rigid light bars, bfg 37s total chaos bed stiffners, gorrila whips, dasaita head unit polk audio subs and amps.
Just something else to look into for steering. Check out brenthal swingset steering not sure if it is for sale to the public but it has almost eliminated bump steer issues.

SFA, swing set won't work. Current plan is a Howe full hydro setup. My next build will definitely be IFS and probably do a swing set then, either another Ulra4 or a 6100.

    Getting trans mount welded up

Got the rear seat mounts put together and welded up. They're removable so I can pull the transfercase out the back (seems to be the easiest way to go about it). They're a weird S shape since the rear V brace angles backwards, so the seat mount actually hangs off behind the subframe and then has to jog forward a bit to connect to the rocker tube.

I'm loving the lift, no more bending over to weld things, even if it's down low!

Rear seat mounts in so seats are now mocked up, and got the rotors thrown on so I could actually torque the wheels down

Starting to mockup the center console. Two transfercase shifters (front axle shifter/rear axle shifter), trans shifter, plus Hoon handle to independently lock up the rear (can be beneficial when crawling to go to front wheel drive only and drag the rear). The trans shifter I'm gonna angle up pretty steep so it's easy to grab it and pull back and down. Doesn't look like much yet, but that single tube took me two days to get the bends right :D It comes off the dash bar and then has to jog around the transfercase shifters which was a pain. The passenger side tube will be a lot easier. The two tubes will get connected and both have disconnects on either end, so like the seats I can remove them. I should be able to remove the entire interior structure with just a few bolts and electrical plugs and have full access to the trans and tcase in a couple minutes.

Also, this morning I got my fuel rails in which are sweet!

Also got some cheap eBay headers, as I kind of figured they won't fit. My gas pedal will be mounted to those tubes on the right, so the exhaust can't go past those. Probably going to make my own headers, I was hoping I could cut the collector back enough but I don't see that happening. Can't flip them down or they hit the chassis engine cradle, and can't flip them forward or they hit the shocks. Oh well, that's why I got the $160 ones.

Little update as I procrastinate work. Progress has been slow due to holidays and it being painfully hot out. I got the injectors and fuel rail and fuel injector harnesses on, as well as a new steam vent system (since my previous nice one of course didn't work with the new blower).

Got the radiator installed. I welded a tube in front of the fuel cell, then a little mount for the bottom, and then two bolts that crank down to hold the top of the radiator into place.

I got the water pump installed too, I cut the top of the housing down by 1" and then milled a thermostat housing down probably 0.200" and rotated it and had my buddy weld it together. It barely fits, but it clears everywhere!

I also ordered a pulley for the water pump, as well as an alternator, idler pulleys, tensioner, and also went ahead and bought a full hydro system from Howe. I now have everything to do the accessory drive. I decided it was worth it to have the whole engine done and hooked up before firing it, not much point in running it without the blower and water pump hooked up.

And then today I started laying out the accessories. It's kind of complicated since the water pump spins the opposite of stock (same direction as the crank, so belt side inward) but I came up with a nice layout and drew up the passenger side plates and bought all the bolts and hardware I need from McMaster. For now I'll just plasma cut all the pieces and weld them together, in the future I'll probably just mill the whole bracket chuck out of aluminum, but since the plasma table is a lot faster than waiting hours for the mill to do it's thing and possibly be wrong, I'll go with the heavy/easy option for now. The belt goes up the left side past the tensioner, around the alternator, around the blower almost 180deg and down to an idler, then slightly around the water pump, around another idler and up and over the steering pump on the right, and back down to the crank. It's actually turning out to fit a lot nicer than I thought it would.

Hoping to get the accessories routed this week. The list of near term tasks is to also get the oil and trans coolers mounted (also mounted out back), then finish getting the seats mounted so I can run all the cooling and fuel lines, and then she'll be ready to fire up! I'm still shooting to get it driving by Trail Hero in October, which I think is very possible. The drivetrain is very close to being completed, and I've started shopping driveshaft kits, also need to put an exhaust together which I'll make myself once I get the floor in, and lastly I need brakes which are relatively simple. It won't be fancy, but I think it'll be completed enough to test it out and make sure everything is moving nicely. But for now, the main focus is wrapping up the drivetrain, I have lots of boxes of parts and just waiting for certain parts of the puzzle to get done to throw them on.

Do you have your spot for next year yet? I might be in JV depending on if I can get a contract with The Mint.

I don't, I haven't even asked for a number yet. Registration is usually early December, and I'll definitely know by then if I'll be able to make it. I'd like to get a lot of prerunning in around Thanksgiving, since I'll be new to the 4400 class I'll have to qualify through the LCQ, so I plan to run the qualifying loop a lot and know it like the back of my hand before KOH (ideally).

I'll definitely be there one way or another though, absolute worst case probably spend a week and just take the canam. But my girlfriend would chop my balls if I wasn't racing after 2 years and all this money haha

Runnin with the big boys now... A buddy of mine is trying to race in EMC, but if I need to go to LV in March, I'm not sure I can take that much time off of a relatively new job.

Are you moving to LV? I'm 2.5 hours from there. We go to the Mint every year and a few of the other nearby races.

I'm still trying to figure out logistics for getting all my shit to KOH. The Tundra can't tow the buggy and the canam, and I don't think my girlfriend wants to tow the canam herself and then spend a week there plus she has school. Last time I raced I spent 10 days there too. Need to have a buddy come and tow the canam with the Tundra and throw the buggy behind a rental RV haha

Nah, not moving to LV. I have family there though. I MIGHT be working the Mint, but I'm not sure.

That's a lot of stuff to bring to KoH. Don't forget your pit supplies and fuel. I wonder if they'll be giving free pit mats to the racers again.

Just got this sweet Nick Williams billet 92mm throttle body in and had to show it off :D

Also, passenger side accessories are mounted and lined up perfect right out the gate! I might make billet brackets in the future, but for a test run making them on the plasma table was a lot faster. The drivers side which only holds an idler pulley and the full hydro pump did not line up AT ALL. Not sure what happened, they're a solid 3/4" out of plane with the rest of the pulleys. Somehow the CAD model lined up dead nuts for passenger side and is way off on drivers side.... No worries though! I also found out I'm gonna have to revamp a couple tubes up front since I can't get the serpentine belt to clear the chassis due to the limited mounting options for the pump due to the supercharger inlet being on the driver's side. No pictures of all that, but I'll start cutting it up soon and since I have the throttle body now I know exactly where everything is up front to redo the driver accessory bracket.

For other progress, I'm wrapping up the interior tubing. First step was to throw it on the lift and get the axles out so I can actually crawl around the chassis to weld everything.

This morning I "finished" welding the interior tubes. There are 6 tubes, and... 12 tube disconnects. Each seat bar can disconnect from the chassis, and then the whole center console/dash piece can pull out. I'm hoping I tacked it enough and with everything bolted up it didn't warp out the ass, I haven't tried removing anything since welding it up this morning. There's a few sides left I couldn't reach and I'll need to pull the drivetrain to get to, but everything is welded enough to hold. Next step is the front seat mounting tabs, after that I can start plumbing stuff to the back. I got 21ft of 1.75" aluminum tubing to bend hard lines for the radiator, everything else is stainless AN lines. I have a bunch of hardware showing up from McMaster tomorrow too so I can mount the trans and oil coolers out back. Once those two are up, the driver accessory bracket is done, and the drivetrain is plumbed she'll be ready to fire :D

Not in its heyday. I had a build on it but rarely posted in it, no one ever commented and the rare person that did was 90% of the time a retard. I just started a build on irate4x4 which apparently is the next best thing, but I'll be surprised if that site catches on. So I just post occasional progress to here, the last remaining forum that is actually active I've concluded, even if it doesn't fit in haha. I've thought about doing a youtube channel but that sounds like a lot of work. I like to show what I'm doing and get advice and show off ideas, but since forums are dying and I left social media it's becoming a lonely world for offroad build threads.

Made a lot of progress lately. First thing I'm stoked about is I pulled the interior bars and finished welding up any areas I couldn't see, and then reinstalled it and nothing had warped more than a hair which I find miraculous. The next task was install the tranny and oil coolers.

I made some L shaped brackets that came off the bar supporting the radiator, and then added a plate on the top between the V brace and had some tabs come off it too.

    [IMG]upload_2020-8-7_15-12-56.gif

    [IMG]upload_2020-8-7_15-12-56.gif

    [IMG]upload_2020-8-7_15-12-56.gif

The radiator has a little movement in all directions with its mounts, and with it pushed all the way down there's like 1/8" of room. I think it's perfect!

    [IMG]upload_2020-8-7_15-12-56.gif

    [IMG]upload_2020-8-7_15-12-56.gif

With the rear radiators all mounted, I started making some seat tabs since the front of the seats aren't mounted yet. I have those cut and prepped but not welded in yet. Today I decided I would cut out the front chassis tubes that were making the accessory mounts a bitch and fix them. I took a bunch of photos, but somehow my phone decided those weren't worth saving. Initially the front looked like this, with the tubes off the engine cradle at 45deg. This was to help clear the upper link mounts at full flex; not sure if that will be an issue now, but it's less of an issue than making the hydro pump fit.

Removed accessories, water pump, crank pulley, plasma cut the tubes out, grinder, flappy wheel, measure, new tubes, notch, flappy, scotch brite, acetone, tack, voila:

    [IMG]upload_2020-8-7_15-12-56.gif

It makes more sense now too, I wasn't a fan of the 45deg angle before and now the load paths aren't as retarded. The driver side accessory bracket was way out of plane (like 3/4") somehow, so for mock up I just spaced it off the head to test everything and also threw on the new throttle body. And holy fucking shit, it all fits

    [IMG]upload_2020-8-7_15-12-56.gif

    [IMG]upload_2020-8-7_15-12-56.gif

Don't get me wrong, driver's side is still tight as fuck. But the hydro pump clears the throttle body by quite a bit, and the serpentine will clear the chassis by like 1/4"---which isn't a lot, but that means it nominally won't be rubbing and if it occasionally touches I really don't care. Worst case I notch that tube a bit.

The belt is 91.5", so I bought a 91" belt off Summit. I am so excited, I am about to get to the plumbing phase and the amount of fucking work I've done in the last few weeks to make the engine work and now everything appears to fit and line up is mind boggling. Measuring everything a ton, making custom accessory brackets, using a weird race pump that spins backwards, cutting up the fancy water pump and milling it and the thermostat housing to clear the supercharger and then welding them together, the hydro pump not fitting, the chassis in the way, etc. etc. So much time and research and trial and error and I now have an engine that at the moment seems like it's ready to run and actually fits and is crammed into this tiny chassis.

Next up, welding the front seat mounts on, building a new driver side accessory bracket that has the right spacing, and then time to start playing with the boxes of plumbing and AN fittings and fuel toys that have sat around for months.

Thanks man! I should be good with the towing, but time will tell. If you see me come say Hi, I'll have the Tundra out there. Probably be camping among the racers in hammertown if I end up racing, it's a cluster but the convenience factor makes up for it.

You going 8 to 1 header? Seems like it's the new trend in desert racing.

Seems to be lol. Nah, I'm super tight on space so going to do just 4 to 1s with this tiny mufflers I got from Magnaflow. My plan is come out horizontally into a collector against the firewall, then a 90deg turn down following the A pillar and then muffler and then a little kick out at the bottom. Originally I wanted to go to the back, but routing the drivers side to the back would be hard due to the driveshaft. After talking to people, the ease of just side dumping at the firewall and reduced heat inside the cab made me choose that path. I'm worried it'll be unbearably loud, but time will tell. Next batch of parts/tools to buy will be to build the headers, so worst case I can always redo it to quiet it down too.

Thanks man, hopefully running for Trail Hero. This thread and the PBB/IBB are usually just copies of each other, if anything I post here more often since no one ever comments on the dedicated offroad forums.

Nice. I guess if you're going to be listening to that thing rumble for 8+ hours, you'd probably want something that won't drive you insane. I was actually under the Tundra for like 30 minutes a couple of nights ago looking for a place for an 8 to 1 collector.

I'm kinda jelly, I was supposed to help build an EMC car in eastern Wyoming, but cascading failures due to Covid kinda killed that.

Haven't had a chance to work on the buggy in a week, but made a little progress yesterday and this morning. First up I watched some videos on welding aluminum and then started making coolant lines.

I cut some brackets out of 1/4" aluminum and tacked them onto the tubes, and then made corresponding brackets that I need to tack to the chassis. I've only done the lower coolant line, but it's broken into two sections so it can be easily removed.

I also made a new drivers side accessory bracket, which somehow turned out to be 1/2" too tall (vs 1/2" too short last time??) so today I trimmed that down and everything lines up great.

I also welded up the passenger accessory bracket and added some additional gussets. This was my favorite weld of the day:

And lastly to wrap it all up, I bolted everything together and threw on a serpentine belt (actually my second one, the first was a bit too long) and everything seems to line up great!

I had been hopeful I could fire the engine up this weekend, but I highly doubt that will happen. I still need to make the second coolant line, plus oil, trans, and fuel lines plus hooking up the wiring and getting the ECU setup--and that's assuming I use the eBay ball blaster headers for an O2 sensor hookup. So it's getting very close, but as everyone knows, each of those tasks by themselves is a days worth of work.

With that said, I'm still hopeful of making Trail Hero even though it's only 5 weeks away. Once the engine fires up I just need to make a rear driveshaft and plumb brakes to at least scoot around.

Got the first (lower outlet) cooling lines hung today.

Got the second set of cooling lines bent and welded.

Another aluminum weld photo, I'm sure to an actual welder my welds are horrible, but I'm wickedly excited about being able to weld aluminum.

And that wraps up todays progress.

:D If only my posting cycle for it wasn't once a month since big updates are so slow. I was telling my friends the other day how I spent 4 hours designing and cutting and cleaning and welding the bracket for just the fuel pump, then called it a day. Detail work is painful since it looks like nothing is happening, but if you don't do it it looks like shit up close lol
