Some people should take a gander over at gm-trucks.com and look at their troubleshooting pages.

There are 800 page threads for ongoing issues and new thread after new thread about random stuff you would never even think about breaking or malfunctioning. They have serious quality control issues

If I hadn't installed an external cooler on my truck I would have been trading it off before my 5 yr powertrain warranty was up. "But" I did so now I'm good for triple that.

You implied that there are vehicles that send trans fluid to the radiator for warming. This is asinine. Trans fluid is sent near the radiator for cooling, not warming. On this, or any other vehicle.
My reading comprehension is fine. Yours? Not so much. How many times did you try to say the temp tolerance was 221* because you couldn't comprehend the explanations given for that being a code for sensors and not temp? Really, go back and count up the posts. We'll wait.

The OP's thread needs to die. Someone needs to start a new thread so we can debate the the trans cooler situation.

Speak for yourself. @Ruggybuggy is a huge benefit to the forum. Stop acting like you were not wrong about anything. Once the temp of the ATF is hotter than the coolant the puck is cooling rather than warming. It is not a complicated subject - this form of heat transfer is about as simple as it gets.

The fact that 95% of your posts are in your own thread and a good portion contain bad info - maybe we can add a poll about who would be missed?

All I know is this truck's transmission now runs 30-40F cooler with the aux. Cooler and stays about the same as engine temperature now when unloaded. 250-260F sustained i just cant get on board with. I change transmissions for a living. I have rebuilt them. They're not fun and they're not cheap.

@sgtfluffy16 you are spreading misinformation. The mere fact that you wrote “Toyota Customer Service told me temps higher than 221°F is out of spec“ is spreading misinformation.

Get your facts straight then post.

A little birdy told me I won a million dollars but I ain't seen a dime of it yet...

Again, showing your lack of reading comprehension. That temp fault is goes off if the SENSOR is faulty, not because the temp is out of spec. This is your misinformation that you keep spreading. If it meant what you are trying to interpret it as, then Toyota would be getting shit tons of trucks in with MIL lights because these trucks are frequently running ATF temps over 221*. Some how all the members posting temps over that threshold are NOT getting any warning lights. Gee, I wonder why?:monocle: Oh! That's right, that info has nothing to do with the temp spec for the ATF; just like you've been told REPEATEDLY by techs who work on these trucks for a living.

I did see the comma, and it doesn't change the fact that you imply there are vehicles sending ATF to the radiator to be warmed, and our trucks are somehow different because that's not how our pick works. Still a dumb concept.

Fun fact, it's not your thread. It belongs to Tundras.com and they encourage all members to post freely. So I will be here if you need me, buddy.

After thinking about this, I believe there is a systemic transmission issue with Toyota. True story. My dad fought in WWII. He had an aversion to Japanese and German products. In 1985 he bought a new Camry. I was floored. What he said I won't quote, it included many racial slurs. But he did say, Toyota reliability can't be beat. He passed and my mother drove the car. She passed and we got it. In 1999 the transmission failed, wouldn't go into reverse. We donated it to a local charity that fixes old cars. After this thread, I'm thinking it didn't have a transmission cooler.
Class action lawsuit seems in order for anyone who has owned a 1985 or later Toyota.
