Hi Everyone, forgive be for such a basic question - I have looked at the forums. I was going to go all out with a new h/u (has factory on it) with an amp and subwoofer. But I'm realizing I need to get a "slim" subwoofer and about to order this one hoping it fits. This is the right conclusion right? Unless I'm willing to cut out part of the area behind the rear seats or make cuts in the seats. I don't need to be heard as I'm pulling up to your house. But I do want to hear and feel some bass. Anyone have any experience with this Rockville unit?

I see there's this approach - man we are a creative bunch - I don't think it's going to generate any more bass than the Rockville - but brilliant use of that cavity. I've seen where others have been able to fit a Pioneer (I think) self-powered amp in there as well.

I found a Gen 1 owner commenting on the 8" blue Rockville on Amazon for the same location I had in mind.

Review below in purple font. I guess I'll get it afterall. However, this dude hit it out of the park! He kind of answered the question - yes you can - just sacrifice the tools compartment and do this. Seems like a great solution for those needing more power.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easily the best $100 I've ever spent on car audio.

Anyone looking to round out a factory system, or modestly upgraded factory system, will be entirely satisfied with buying one of these. I picked one up for my 2003 Toyota Tundra. The 8" model at 2 7/8" just barely fits under the passenger seat. I almost got the 10" version but I'm glad I went with the 8" - plus, I don't think I needed that much sub in the truck. This one completely fills the cab with ample panel shaking bass. It's not two 12" hyper-excursion drivers running on a bridged 1000 watt amp. I knew that already. That's why I ordered the Rockville.
It's compact and great for bringing the missing low end to a vehicle's system without breaking the bank. I was really surprised there is no alternator noise running the hi-Z input from my rear speaker leads. Be sure to hook up the ground wire for the connector as I did, I am certain that's why there is no alternator noise coming through the sub. It's essential. Nice, solid connection block, too, for the power and ground. I don't feel like they're going to slip and fall out and they're well protected if you strip the proper amount of wire (3/8"). I'm thinking of making a small wooden platform for the center over the drive shaft in order to centralize its location more. Just because I think the passenger seat may impede some of the overall tone, but that's somewhere down the road. For now, I'm going to enjoy having a sub in my vehicle again. But, seriously, this thing kicks a**. Easily the best $100 I've ever spent on car audio. I am thoroughly impressed.

Don't call it a crew max, it's a double cab. That's 2nd/3rd gen speak. :quickdraw:

I'd search "subwoofer" up in the search bar. It should bring up a few posts with some good options. Also, I know q-logic makes a box for access cabs, so imagine they make one for DC's. And check jl audios TW series. Thin and one of the best lines out there.

The Kenwood KSC-SW11 powered subwoofer will fit in the compartment under the passenger side rear seat. The subwoofer is on a piece of foam rubber and the jack was relocated to my tool box.

JL's product is called the Stealthbox and it's still manufactured for dozens of make/models, more info at their website. I believe they have a center console option and a DC option for under-seat on the driver's side.

There's a ton of write-ups to be found for the DC trucks. Took me 2 seconds of searching to find this for example: https://www.tundras.com/threads/1st-gen-tundra-double-cab-subwoofer.57865/

    But there are others.

Very do-able for AC and DC trucks. No need for slim-fit enclosures.

I keep a wedge truck box with a single 12 wedged between the front and rear passenger seats. It works fine since I hardly ever carry people in the backseat. The amp is under the driver seat.

I have the 10" version of that powered sub since Apr/19 but in a gen 3 behind seats, stock amp, android HU. Not sure fit in yours but here's sound and vibration phone on the seat, dial set at 5/10...

There's a Taco thread, he's got 2 behind his seats.

You get what you pay for.
I certainly want to hear crisp, clean, accurate Bass, not some farting paper eco-solution that ends up being a waste in the end.
The Gen 3 stealthbox in my 17' was $1200
    And it's not nice either...
    ITS F'N AWESOME!
But, to each his/her own, and if you are going to do something, I prefer the way that exceeds expectations, not the meh way.
Having had a couple Gen 1's, the stealth box is the.best choice without any major modification to the truck, hands down.

I've never bought a bad JL product, and the Stealthboxes are extremely well built for what you pay.

Had one of the 10" Stealthboxes in my '03 Sierra ext cab, first vehicle I ever bought new. JL 500x1 pushing it, and a JL 300x4 multi for mids and highs. Pic attached for proof of install, before the seat and sub went in. Not sure where the hell the rest of my pics went after lining the rear wall, reinstalling seat and Stealthbox install.

If you turned the volume above 4-5 on anything with significant bass, it would affect your breath.

I still have the amps and the power grid sitting in a sealed bin in my basement. I need to sell those damn things. Beast of a setup.

I’ve heard good things about them. I believe you. Being on the frugal side of things - I guess it’s all relative - I’ll be on the lookout for a used one - I may luck out. Until then I’ll try the $100 Rockville.

Look at that. I made a "model" of this Rockville with a cardboard box to see if I could install it there and it did not fit. I guess it opens up if you go past the wood(?). Live and learn. For this reason I ended up getting the blue Rockville for under the seat.

I had to make a few whacks with a dead blow to make a nice tight fit. Wires go under carpet, through the front opening inside the cavity to the back of the amp. I used 1/8" x 1" foam along the base so and in between my wood filler and the amp so she fits nice and snug with no vibrations. My wood strip is just a hold down. Been bumping for a number of months and so far so good.

    How's the blue?

In my 2005 DC I had a old Fosgate amp under the center front seat (1 of 3) and had a custom box made.
I think there was a 10" Punch (maybe an 8") in it.
It was removeable in case I needed to fold the sets down or needed 3 people in the back seat..

It didn't win any awards, but it gave me the bass I wanted..

    Amp2_1172dd26e72f543a2417b9308de8093c5cd5900e.jpg WooferBox1_715271b98e72bdcf6ccf89871c2508aab52a9307.jpg WooferBox2_612685d2098944bb943d0a3e3e7ac21f2dfbe4f4.jpg

After buying my 2014, that thing sat in my garage for 3 years, finally sold it in a garage sale.
If I still had it, I'd GIVE it to you..

Hey brother im currently looking at the JL stealthbox but noticed it only says for 2WD. I was wondering if you had a 4WD and were able to fit it in there?

I have one in my 4WD. Installation wasn't easy due to working around the transfer case, but it's in there. The one thing I didn't like was having to drill through one of the floor support "cross members". Some of the holes are also at angles through the floor, so the washers/nuts don't sit flat when tightened. It's in there and secure, but it's not just a "drop in and done" kind of job.

I had a 4wd DC and I don't remember it being a problem. I also may have had a version that fit the 4wd because it's discontinued now. I did have to cut the console sides at the bottom to allow the woofer to better push out the side and under the seats.

You can use the center console as a mold to make your own Sealthbox on a budget (if you are an insane person). Keep forgetting to post this in the various subwoofer threads:

First step was to take it out of the car and discard the bottom. I pre fabbed a speaker mounting ring out of an hdpe cutting board:

    Top of box taking shape:

Then I made a sturdy bottom and joined the two together with many layers.

    Tada!:

Lid still closes as normal. I went this route because the under seat storage areas are more useful to me than the center console.
