I'd assume that your refund is also too soon but again the "90 day from transaction to cover dispute requests from banks" was never mentioned before until now.
Going forward with the RTA should be a given. That's what I was told at the DOL place when I got my scale weight amended and the new registration.

Honestly, if a get a refund for the 2020 year that's great but I figured that was already lost $. It's more the long term RTA payments going forward which I see a much larger win with this whole deal.

I lived in Pierce County when that RTA taxing district was created. It was the most dishonest piece of gerimandering I've ever seen.

They obviously created the taxing district so that they could maximize tax revenue from the surrounding area by relying on King County voters to overrule everyone else they included. If I remember correctly, the taxing district doesn't include all of Peirce and Snohomish Counties. It only includes just enough of them to get their revenue without risking the voters rejecting the tax bill.

When I bought my truck in Washington they wanted to "tax" me according to their own valuation schedule, instead of the prevailing market value or actual purchase price. They valued it at about $5k more than the Kelly Blue Book value or the National Auto Dealer's Association value.

I brought in KBB and NADA value documentation to the DOL office and they reduced the tax accordingly.

Washington is a beautiful state. I just kind of wish that King County would slide into the Puget Sound so that they would quit inflicting their stupidity on the rest of the State.

Regarding the letter from state … why would a bank dispute the transaction and/or be involved in this? Doesn't make sense! any reason?

the boundary lines are just that. My house is well out of it as the line comes down from north to south then bumps out east to grasp my neighborhood. Then goes back west then down south. There is no transit out here and no plans to put any...

Im thinking if the bank as in the loan. The bank holds the title and issues the funds at the point of sale.

I see. Even though you paid the tax, maybe they don't know who paid it or also if your car is in process of being repossessed , the bank will get the money.

also the first year tax is added to the loan amount and if you are behind, bank wants that money.

I forgot about the sharks :D

    @LyonKing,
Thank you for doing this. I was worried about the RTA tax $ in our tabs but this may be a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. Even if we tried to vote it down.

My guess, they are changing the recorded information for a vehicle and the bank is the owner till the loan is paid in full.

Just got this today. Not even what I asked for in my refund request. Gotta love the organization of the WA state govt.

Welp folks I’ve got good news...checks came in the mail today. Just got my full refund from the 2020 registration year ($521) and looks like partial from 2019 ($107). Now the question is...what should I spend my $628 on?!?

Hope everyone else has a similar result.

That’s great! Here’s hoping we don’t get anything like this on the East side. I just renewed my registration in Spokane County and it was $125.

    LyonKing,

When you filled out the refund request, did you use the “other” check box? I am wondering if I need multiple requests or explanation to get refunds dating back to 2017. I went to the scale today and and got my registration updated at the DOL. I have a crewmax with canopy and running boards. Came in at 6920Lbs. Washington has really been scamming us on this one. There is no way my truck weighs less than 6000Lbs bone stock. E77FCBE2-2243-4AA8-A5B5-E73032D2A680.jpg

Yes I checked the “other” box. Also added a letter which couldn’t hurt.

I did this today. My new truck weight on my registration is over 6000 pounds. I updated / paid for my registration and the RTA tax isn’t on it anymore.

    Thanks for saving me money.

I’m on the fence with project specific taxes... however the calculations on this one are in fact criminal. Using their own method of value rather than actual numbers is my biggest gripe.

That said I have no issue taking advantage of loop holes so yes do it!

It’s kinda strange yours are higher than ours once we get the gross weight fixed.
