Have anyone did a rear sway upgrade to TRD? Do you have to remove the propeller shaft or you can just twist and turn it?

    TIA!

It’s 2 year old video on his page “Finally installed my tundra TRD sway bar” or just type in tundra Trd rear sway bar and it comes up. Sorry I don’t know how to upload the video on here

Thank you. I had the Tundra covered.

I was talking about Toyota Sequoia rear sway bar. The Toyota Sequoia have an independent rear suspension and the sway bar loops over the rear differential. And it's really tight fitting. I'll figure it out this weekend. I just have to dedicate myself a day just with that and and hopefully with access to spares it something breaks.

It did not. I'll wait next mouth when I'm not as busy. But, I do have to remove the prop shaft, muffler, heat shield etc just to be able to get into it. While I'm underneath, I can try and trace where my slow leak in the driver's side airbag is coming from. Hopefully it's not the bags. 500+ each is going to hurt my wallet.

Were you able to get the rear sway bar replaced? Did you have to drop the prop shaft, muffler, heat shield etc? Or were you able to angle the new one in without doing that? I have the rear TRD pro replacement, but wanted to see how difficult a job it is prior to starting. Thanks in advance

I've been busy this past few months and prioritizing in finding housing and now going to start remodeling the house. I will try to squeeze it in once I start getting my tools moved in to my house vs storage. I will make sire to take some photos of the process. I do have other parts to replace in the rear suspension. The front will be getting SPC UCA, new LBJ, and wheels bearing hub assembly too.

    Cheers!

Looks like it is possible to install with difficulty without taking a ton apart, the sale page says "simple install"

    Lifted, TRD swaybars,
Installing the TRD rear sway bar wasn't all that difficult. What I did was separate the drive shaft. I didn't want to weave the old/new bars in, and out, and around the undercarriage. You would have to jack the vehicle and remove a wheel. Just by lowering the driveshaft you wouldn't have to jack the vehicle. Be sure to have something available to place your driveshaft on. because it's heavy.

Can confirm, I just did front and rear sway bar this past weekend. I drove it home and she drives sportier. I like it a lot and highly recommend the TRD sway bar replacement.

I had the service manual page saved on my phone for the front sway bar specs and I'm pretty sure the rear uses the same specs. I will get into my CD later to check for the rear tonight if I can remember.

    endlink bolt 89ft lbs.
    endlink nut 111ft lbs
sway bar bracket to frame 51ft lbs

The rear bolts are significantly smaller than the front cradle bolts. I don’t want to over tighten given how hard it was to drill out and retap the rusty broken bolts, when I attempted to extract them. If you have the rear specs that would be great. Driving without rear sway bar currently.

Oh yeah, that is what motivated me to try the rear TRD sway bar. I already installed the front TRD sway bar and thought, well, maybe I can do both, but snapping three of four bolts off in the frame was a real PITA. Your thread included the warning, but I thought I would get lucky. Nope. The info about the 8mm x 1.25 tap thread cutter came in handy for me.

    That’s great!
    But man that sucks!
You were right, different torques specs.
I used lithium but later learned that it's not so great with rubber. Gonna get some silicone lube and call it a day.

Thanks. Do you think the nut that attaches the link to the frame is also 72 ft/lbs? I greatly appreciate the info. Now I can finish this project. Also, I am concerned that one of the 8 mm cradle bolts is no longer tight, kind of wobbly now. I thought I would have the cradle tack welded in three places per bolt to help ensure it stays put. Any thoughts on that idea?

Yes, I wondered the same thing since it’s not actually on the diagram but in the written directions it says tighten both nuts to 72ft lbs.
By cradle do you mean the stabilizer bracket? Do you think the bolt is loose because the re-threading just made it a little bigger? Have you tried to tighten it or are you afraid it’s gonna strip?
I wouldn’t weld the bracket, that would be a lot of work if you ever had to take the sway bar back off plus I’m not sure how strong tack welds would be compared to two bolts holding it to the frame. I would weld a threaded 8mm stud in place of the bolt (or cut off the head off a bolt) and use a nut to hold the bracket on, like I had to do on my front sway bar.

I had the same issue on my front TRD sway bar. I was able to get a bolt and lock washer inside the frame and then carefully attach a nut to secure the saddle to the frame. However, I like your solution much better and it is secure/welded to the frame. Hey, thanks again for the help, info and insights.
