Not true in Scotland, they don't use the e.
But the other three are standard there. Not in Japan either as I recal.

I had some excellent single malts in Japan. Suntory makes a good one that you can get, a little pricey at $130 a fifth. At least in Virginia.
Suntory square bottle is also good, but not a single malt.

If you are into the “campfire” flavors, stick with the Islay scotches or ones that specifically state they are Peated. Most of your Highland scotch tends to be sweeter and less peat (smoke)

I feel that. My wife wasn't a scotch fan until she came to Scotland to stay with me a few weeks. She has good, spelled $$$, taste. Then she came to Japan to stay with me for a few weeks. More $$$. Don't even get me started on Singapore slings made with the original Raffles hotel recipe.

And the lowlands ones have no peat at all. They dry their barley with air only.

So, it took me awhile (about to turn 54) to acquire a taste for scotch/whiskey/bourbon, it just tasted like what I imagine acetone tasted like.
Then with some suggestions from friends, I started with Buffalo Trace and the like. I slowly started to get it. My wife and I watched a special on Scotch, I think it was on Amazon Video...peaked my interest even more. That led me to Glenmorangie...I dig it. I usually have it in my rotation along with High West Double Rye (my go to atm).

I stick my pinky out and try to get into scotch and I just can’t. I’ve had 18 year old Macalan (spelling?), Laphroiag, Glen Fedich and cheap shit. The flavor just ai t there. I’m a bourbon lovin moonshine drinking redneck.

I like bourbon and rye too. Scotch definitely has the flavor, it's just a different flavor. Lots of great variance out there though.

Was introduced to Scotch when stationed in England. Lived in the British community and my neighbor offered me a glass of Glenfiddick. It ruined me. Picking this tomorrow, expecting to be snowed in Wednesday and Thursday this week. Sounds like a good reason to be sitting inside watching the plow trucks closing my driveway after it’s been cleared. That’s ok, I’ve got a four wheel drive this year a$$hole!7B8F36D2-C6EB-45B7-813A-3929B91D4182.jpg

Haig & Haig "Dimple Pinch" is a 15 year old blended scotch. It is often featured in one of Hemingway's novels like For Whom The Bell Tolls, The Garden of Eden, Death in the Afternoon and others.

"An Inch of Pinch" please, as mentioned in an episode of Mad Men.

It will warm your innards on a cold night.

When I stray from bourbon, I like scotch, either blended or single malt, neat and ice cold.

Dimple Pinch ($40) and The Famous Grouse ($20) are my favorites.

The largest selling scotch in the world is Johnny Walker Red Label. It was Winston Churchill's favorite and he could have any scotch he wanted.

Pretty new to the scotch/bourbon/whiskey game, has taken me a while to find what I like.
Bourbons have been too sweet, but there are a few I really like (Chestnut Farms being one of them).
Recently discovered this gem from watching Bingeing with Babish…bought the 12 year first and was immediately hooked. Then went to buy some at my local place but they were out so I reluctantly decided to try the 15 year, reluctant because of the price. Glad I did, it’s amazing. Enjoying it in the garage with a Liga Privada T52…weather is improving, cleanup from Ida is underway. Life is better. Cheers Tundra Fam.

As is the spelling on many of the Canadian made Rye's. with no 'e' ( 40 creek, CC, Crown etc)

I prefer to buy American rye because there are actually requirements on the grains that go into it. Some of the Canadian "rye" such as Crown is like 90% corn. At that point, I may as well drink bourbon.
