    does anyone know the difference between the JL 12TW3-D4 and the JL 12TW3-D8. they are subwoofers and one is 8 ohms and the other is 4? I have no idea what that means though. i will have a jl jd 1000/1 monoblock class d amp with a dmh w8600nex head unit if that makes a difference to the subs.

    Most modern amplifiers like to see a load of 4 Ohms or less. The D8 sub would work best paired with another one wired in parallel to give 4 ohms.

    You could use a single D8 with your amp but it would not let it put out full power.

    Just looked up your amp- its 1000 watt rated power is at 2 ohms. If you hooked up two D4s in parallel you’d get the full rated power out of your amp.

    Edit- just realized those subs have dual voice coils. You could wire the D4 voice coils in parallel for the 2 ohm load.

    2 each? Then you you’d want to make sure the voice coils in each one are in series, then wire the two subs in parallel for 2 ohms. Less than two ohms could smoke the amps. Good luck- JL is good stuff.

    Damn- not enough coffee yet this morning. With two wired D4s together you may not get the two ohms. Series the voice coils and parallel the two will get you 4 ohms. Parallel the voice coils and series the subs will get you 4 ohms as well. Parallel everything and you’ll get 1 ohm. Too low for the amp.

    D4= dual 4 ohm
    D8= dual 8 ohm

    They allow for different wiring configurations. Depends on how many subs you will be using and what your amp is a capable of.

    Hey y'all. I am planning on running 3 of these 10TW3's in my 2012 Tundra. I will be using this amp. What should I be using, D4's or D8's?
