So hear is the story i bought a tundra (2001 sr5 v8 4x4 tundra access cab) about a year ago. The body is very rough but the frame had been replaced so i had no problems buying it. I always had plans to replace the box and do some body work in order to come out with a legit truck over time. But the more i had thought about it tho the more i realized that really i needed a full body swap. Id say that i put about 2500 or 3000 into fixing everything on the truck. I do know in a way it is alot to have in a beat up old truck but honestly i love it and its 100 percent mechanically. so about a month back i found a 2002 (base model v6 2wd) with a bad transmission but the body is 8/10. No rusty nonsence i was gonna have it be a project for the spring and i know i have made it hard on myself, as the cab isnt gonna be a direct swap but i paid 600 dollars. I have been asking questions and trying to prepare myself for this project cause i know i am in a bit over my head in a way. Hear is the crazy part a tree falls on my truck the other day not to happy about it but thats life right and i guess my project a gonna come a little sooner then expected.

i guess i just need to start with a few questions and start to make a game plan:

    [2001 sr5 4x4 v8 access cab -- 2002 base model 4x2 v6 access cab (donor truck)]

my main thing is wiring and hvac stuff is my best best to just strip both cabs and swap all of it or can i go about this in a different way or maybe i should call the scrap yard lol

Everything should fit in the doner Truck since they’re both AC bodies. I’m knee deep in rebuilding the frame on my AC Turd, but the body was actually very clean. Looks like you’re in the opposite position.
If this were me, I’d Start dismantling the new cab and swap parts over as I remove them. Take your time, label EVERYTHING and take photos.

    And welcome to the club!

my plan was to strip the donor cab down and then install the parts from the orginal cab so i have a clean slate i figgure i can just remove the whole dash assembly and place it in the doner cab i think that is the big one but i am new to the tundra i dont really know the best ways to go about things

Leave the engine on the frame. Swap all the harnesses from the v8 truck to the V6 body.

The engine harness, engine bay harness, and interior harness (gauge cluster is also different because of the tach) it’s honestly a time consuming job, but not super hard.

one thing i am thinking about is how to i go about my registration does the vin number go with the frame or the body i live in new york i think i might need a salvage inspection i dont have a branded title but i guess that would be the case where stuff like that is done

The v6 cluster will not read the right rpm because the signals different.
vin follows the body. So registering it as a V6 will be what happens. Actually may save you on insurance

It’s pretty much one harness in the dash. Then you have a floor harness. Engine bay harness has the exterior fuse box. Engine harness can stay on the frame. Frame rear harness stays on frame too

Not easy. Just pull the dash (not too hard) and the harness comes out realitivly easy. I’ve had my own dash out twice. You may need some new clips, but they can be had.

So i just started the tundra project a few days ago we cut up the roof and got it so we could drive the truck again. Then we removed the box and removed some parts like radiator and interior bits but i am just looking for a bit of direction on how i should go about removing the cab

engine harness stays on engine, unplug by the ecu behind the glove box and route out of way, remove brake lines from body to frame, unplug frame harness from under driver seat, and all the evap lines that connect to body stuff.. and you should be able to lift the body off (oh and the steering shaft) its really easy since youve got a lift to pull the body.
