How are these attached in the thin portion that connects the front and rear? It almost looks like there are holes there in some of the pics, and some look like they have push tabs, but the stock ones don't go up that far. Just wanting to know how they are kept from flapping about.

I think I'll sit this one out for now, but I am still curious. I'm sure my stock ones will wear out eventually.

 

Good question and this is the exact reason I added install instructions in the original post

IME, at least here in AZ during summer, these additional tabs are necessary.

Oh! Totally missed the file at the bottom. Thank you. I am still not willing to drill into my truck, but it's good that they thought of this.

 

I'm in for a set. Why is the commitment window so short?

 

What size bits are suggested to drill through the metal? Are there self tapping screws supplied? From what I read it looks like drilling is the way, do we need a specific drill bit attachment? How much of a difference do those 2 fasteners make in your experience. I am interested in jumping on this GB, once it hits 30 peeps... Thanks for any further clarification!

 

I'm curious too, I'd guess that this forum would need longer than 2 weeks to get that many to commit...

 

We had more than 30 (almost 50) in a similar window for the Jomax ABS guards, so it's easily doable.

Im interested. I really wish they made one for the rear as well so one can’t see through the bed/frame gap. So ugly!

 

They do it’s called mamoth guards. More of a show thing but maybe they make a plain piece also

So, personally, I have yet to drill the holes. I first wanted to see how it held up. The hole itself is 1/4" so that's where I will start. If you are ok with some flop, top holes dont matter. Here, where the amb temp is over 110F, when I get home they flipped over. I will probably, personally, drill one hole between both and see how that works out.

@AzureNightmare I myself as well was wanting to hold off on drilling. But, the location of the drill is so obscure - personally I'll be ok with it. Iv been holding off of on the bed stiffened because that is invasive.

IME 2-3 weeks is about as long as most people want to wait. Product isnt shipped out until payment after the GB is closed. Personally I'd get a little impatient waiting for something much longer than that.

Keep in mind, this is NOT Tundra only. This will be x-posted across social media, Tundra, Tacoma and T4R pages.

yeah, I'm not so concerned with concealment as I am with breaking the seal and letting corrosion start. I don't need a truck that rusts away around the motor... I already had a Dodge.

Decided to try something prior to drilling lol
Was out and about anyway. We shall see. Used about 6" and followed the curvature of the metal/guard.

 

I don’t have a problem drilling the holes, but what size hole is needed to secure the rivet? Doesn't seem to Specify in the directions.

 

Post 15 shows the hole to be 1/4". But correct, adding the bit size in the institutions would be a good idea.

Hi All - Thank you for your interest in Ark Splash Guards. There are a couple of questions around securing the top of the splash guard on Tundra product. There are 2 partially drilled holes at the top of the splash guard, that line up to "safe spots" to punch through your fender. We recommend using a 5/16 drill bit, with light pressure, to punch through the metal, then using the supplied rivets to secure to the top of the splash guard to the vehicle (I'll update the instructions tonight). It's quite simple and really locks the splash guard in place for the long haul. The 4Runner / Tacoma models have existing un-utilized holes that can be used to secure the top of the splash guard to the fender (no-drilling). Each set comes with 25rivets, giving you a few extra just in case. Regarding shipping to Canada, we can make that work.
