Just noticed a strange wire that’s been splices into one of the wires on an ignition coil harness. Seems to be something the previous owner did. Whatever it is. I don’t like it. I’m not good with electrical stuff so I’m scared to detach it. It goes to a group of wires that are honestly a clusterf***. One of the wires looks like a ground. I can’t figure out where they go. Any suggestions?

Part of an alarm or remote system?

Part of a remote start. That's the hood switch in the last picture, and the injector tap is for the tach signal.

Given that there's a fucking wire nut I'd be worried about it too.

Looks like a real hack install as evidenced by the use of a wire nut. (They're for electrical wiring of a structure, not vehicle wiring.)

The last pic is a switch that lets the alarm and/or remote start system know the the hood is open.

Above posts are correct. That is for an aftermarket remote start. Wires were tapped for tach reading and the last is the hood pin switch which will not let someone remote start when the hood is open.

Not sure what tach reading is. Any recommendations on what to do from here? Is it safe to pull these wires? I don’t have any way to remote start so I’m not sure why it’s been rigged for that. Regardless, I don’t want that wire tapped.

Is it safe to remove these wires? I don’t have any way to remote start it. And I really don’t want that wire tap anyway.

The tach signal is provided to the remote start brain in case you have a hard starting vehicle (vehicle requiring more than six seconds of crank time to start) or if you live in an area of extreme temperatures. IN either case the Tach wire provides extra crank time.

If you are not using the remote start there is no harm in removing the wire. Just disconnect it and cap it off or follow it the the control module under the dash and remove completely.

gotcha. I’m having trouble following the wire. Never messed with electrical stuff before. You say control module as in the ECM or something different?

I do have about a 3-second crank time that’s been bugging me. Also, my obd port is not linking to any scanners. I’m wondering if this hack job has anything to do with those things.

The wiring for the remote start will all lead to an aftermarket control module unit similar to this:

Check your chassis grounding at the firewall and the over next to the battery. Clean solid connections are desirable.

Hot damn. Alright, just detached the hood latch wire and tach wire. I’ll look for the module. I feel like I have a tapeworm in my truck. Thanks for your help!!!

Make sure the tach wire connection (where it was tapped) is insulated!!! If that wire touches any ground, your truck will not start.
