I have a 2001 tundra access cab 4wd with the TRD off-road package. The throttle is only working at the bottom 3rd of gas pedal travel which means the drive by wire system is not working. I have replaced the accelerator pedal position sensor, the accelerator motor and the throttle position sensor with no help. I've searched the problem online until I got a headache. Can anyone help with this?

Did you reset the ecu and clear the CEL codes?

Just unhooked battery overnight. The bulb was gone from the check engine light. Replaced it. Going to hook up a scan tool at work tomorrow.

2001 model doesn't use the drive by wire... Or at least it didn't from the factory. Should be an accelerator cable / mechanical system.

See what the CEL is and report back.

It is a hybrid system. Uses a cable to control the accelerator pedal position sensor on the throttle body. Codes p1127 and p1120

Yeah, it's got a weird little gearbox on the TB. Did you pull the intake tube and check the TB plate opens when you turn it by hand?

You can kinda see the gear thingy in this pic.

It doesn't move until the mechanical part of the accelerator pedal position sensor makes contact. About 2/3 throttle

With those codes I would check your wiring.

    Did you check the fuses?

Fuses are good. I've checked some of the wiring. It looks good. Nothing has been tampered with.

The cable pulls on the left side of the TB. If the cable itself is pulling it open, then there's something in the little mechanism. I think.

Problem solved. A leaky windshield caused some corrosion on a couple of plugs behind the driver side kick panel. One of the wires pulled out of both sides of the plug easily. Made a temporary jump wire for the time being.

Did you trace the leak back to origination? Glad you solved the wiring problem.

Could you post a pic of where you found this issue. Im having the exact some problem after pulling the intake to replace my starter. And throttle position was working fine before this so im leaning towards a wiring issue. Im getting 5 volts to the sensor

Did you remove or adjust the throttle position sensor? If you simply pop it back on it won't work, it needs to be put on about 15 degrees from centered then adjusted.

Here's a quote I used from another forum when I was fixing mine.

First set the TPS at about the half way point. The ear is slotted on 1 side for adjustment. Start the engine and you should be able to set your idle by rotating switch position. Turn key off, then on but do not start. Push gas pedal slowly and steadily to the floor 3x. Turn key off. Now you can smile as you start it and drive away...

Ok at first i didnt remove it at all. I just unplugged the harness and the cable. And moved the intake out of the way for starter. Since then i have taken it off and on like a hundred times lol. But i was able to probe the connector. Im getting 5 volts in and the signal responds with higher voltage as i turn it. So im thinking its not an actual tps problem maybe wiring knocked loose somewhere, the actual throttle plate motor whatever you call it, or computer. Any ideas on how to narrow it down?

Same thing for me, it doesn't like to be unplugged :) Put it back on, but instead of straight on turn it a little bit so it's kind of preloaded"

Bummer, and that's a new TPS?

I think at this point I'd go to a junkyard and grab a low mileage throttle body with TPS already installed.

No its not a new tps i was there to change the starter lol. Then the tps or something stopped working. But i really dont think its the tps. Its voltage is varrying like it should as i rotate it.

Did you ever solve this problem? Same thing happened to me after changing my starter. I didn’t even remove the throttle body from the intake. Buttoned everything back up and got a P1226 with no throttle control. I swapped the throttle body with a brand new unit with no change.
