Hey all, new member here and finally digging in and trying to figure out what the heck the previous owner did with the headlight setup. Any and all input is appreciated.

I bought the truck in February from a used car dealer. Over the past several months in searching around and figuring out which few first mods I want to to get into I discovered some things.

Apparently the truck has LED bulbs (in halogen/projector) housings now. The light is nice and bright, but only for about 50 or so feet upon which the beam cuts off and makes night time driving a chore.

There are two switches on the dash that I can only guess were wired for an aftermarket lightbar or ditch lights. I've traced their wires to the left and right side of the truck in the front of the engine bay. It looks as if the previous owner simply disconnected these and left the wiring there.

Finally, there are some boxes attached to the each headlight housing that have wiring connected to them but I'm unsure if they are connected to the electrical system or not. Maybe an HID conversion that was left unhooked?

That's all I got, again, any and all help identifying what in God's name was done to my truck is most appreciated.

Side note, I did find out that the truck has Bilsteins up front and out back with a 1.5" or so block in the rear (score!), so that's nice. I'm guessing it is set to the highest or second highest perch in the front as she sits fairly high right now.

Thanks in advance for any help.

My guess is that they were for light bars/pods. The little black boxes on the fender are relays, so it was at least probably wired the correct way. The larger black boxes are (my guess anyways) ballast for a HID setup that was probably replaced by LED bulbs and just left in place.

Gotcha thanks... yeah that was my thinking too on both accounts. Maybe I can find a light bar or two that would simply plug into those connectors and save me from running the relays and wiring through the firewall. Can’t say I agree with the placement and style of those switches though. o_O

I agree on the style of the switches, but at this point there are already holes drilled for them, so might as well use them. A bit of searching and you should be able to find those connectors, but even if you don't, it's just a couple of wires. A bit of solder and heat shrink and good to go.

If that was my truck, I'd replace that part/panel and put my switches where I wanted..
You could still use the old wiring and relays..
Remove 2 bolts and the parking brake handle and it comes right out..

    Lower Panel - Toyota (55046-0C090-C0)
    https://parts.toyotaofcoolsprings.com/oem-parts/toyota-lower-panel-550460c090c0?c=Zz1ib2R5JnM9aW5zdHJ1bWVudC1wYW5lbC1jb21wb25lbnRzJmw9Mzgmbj1Bc3NlbWJsaWVzIFBhZ2UmYT10b3lvdGEmbz10dW5kcmEmeT0yMDE2JnQ9c3I1JmU9NS03bC12OC1nYXM=

I'd also ditch the aftermarket headlights and use OEM 2019 LED housings with iHacker's wiring harness.

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/201...lay-harness-for-2014-2020-models-v-2-0.24416/

As to the connecters, I'd cut those off and use Deutsch connectors.
Of course depending on the connections of whatever lights you buy..

You know what that’s a great suggestion. I forget that all these factory parts are replaceable.

I really dig NSV’s switches under the climate control knobs so maybe I’ll do something there.

And I’ve seen those other connectors in my search for finding other ones like I have. Is there a reason you recommend those?

Rigid lights uses them on their lights.
I used to make and sell Tundra OEM H11 plug to Rigid adapters for our fog lights..

I like them so I used them when I put LEDs in my grille..
I needed a connector for when I pull my grille to replace bulbs in the headlights.
    They are very water tight..

Whatever lights you end up buying should have their own male and female connections that you can solder to your existing wiring and relays..

Thanks and yeah, did some more research last night and ordered some new LED housings. Sent iHacker a PM for the harness. :)

Ahh, nice! I've been eying up those Rigids but my lord they are expensive. Been thinking about putting in some yellow-ish LED bulbs in the factory fog housings.

Caliraised also has a pretty sweet bulb set that can change from white, yellow and a mix of both. I like that.

They also have some complete fog sets like this that are similar to the Rigids. (This is probably the front runner right now - with yellow bulbs)

Been on the fence about the Raptor style grille lights. Did you custom make that setup or is there a kit you'd recommend. I do like the look, your truck looks mean, man!

If you are going to replace your fog lights, look into this.

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/diy-rigid-trd-pro-fog-lights-brackets.37902/

I had the Rigid metal brackets at first and didn't really care for them.
It is a little work, but I TRD Pro better..

    The Rigid brackets.

I had amber Rigids at first and didn't care much for them.
Didn't really have much use for them.

I ended up with these Rigid LED pods.
    https://www.rigidindustries.com/radiance-pod-amber-backlight-20204.html
They have 4 amber LEDs in the corners (that I have connected to the parking lights), then the fog lights connected to the stock fog light wiring.

Thanks, it is a custom mod that I did myself to my TRD Pro grille..
I'd post some pics but photobucket froze up on me again..

Ok, those Rigids are nice. I like the backlighting too, neat effect. I'll keep that info about the mount too... that's good to know. Thanks!
