I agree something seems off. My Platinum has a whopping payload of 1,100 lbs. I weighed it with my TT hitched (6K lbs) my wife and me (300 ish lbs) and 200 lbs of gear in the bed, 3/4 tank of gas (38 gal tank) and it hit the 7200 lb GVWR right on the mark.

You answered your own question above. A properly set WDH will only reduce any rear sag, not eliminate. Which is why a trailer with 700# TW will still sag more than trailer with 400# TW...its a heavier trailer.

Just because you are within your payload and have a properly set WDH doesn't mean you will not have sag. If you don't want sag do a leaf spring & shock delete and put solid blocks in.
Any number of things can make one truck have more sag than another....A truck that has pulled trailers its whole life will have springs that are worn more than a brand new truck, and thus will have more sag. Leveling kit and not raising the rear. Having a topper/canopy/shell vs not. Someone running helper springs, sumo, timbrens, airbags, roadmaster active suspension v. someone who doesn't have those.

BL: A heavier trailer with more tongue weight, even with the WDH properly setup and being w/in payload specs, will result in more sag. This is the case for all manufactures.

The reason I said "reduce any rear sag" is because I haven't had the question answered yet. Are you confirming that all new Tundras sag noticeably when loaded with the rated payload?

All trucks sag when you add weight to the back, even when your w/in the payload specs.

Maybe it's because these new softly-sprung candyazz trucks sag soo much a WDH can't pull them back up.

I had a FirstGen 4Runner (1/4 ton) that I used to tow a 19' TT using an Equalizer hitch. That truck did ride like a genuine 4X4. There was no sag in the rear once the Equalizer hitch was engaged. In fact, you had to be careful not to pull up too many chain links, or the rear would begin to rise. My longest tow with that setup was from Houston to El Paso (780 miles) in one day. I had no problems, either with the rig or the traffic, but it was slow going in the mountains.

Disappointing that a new Tundra is only slightly more capable as a tow vehicle than a 35 year old quarter ton. :(

Your right in that the Tundra rear leaf spring are extra soft and a major factor in the low payload number. Anyone that plans on using the truck as a work truck are installing helper spring or air bags. My previous '18 Tacoma had more capable springs then my Tundra. I pulled the same trailer with both trucks and they sat almost identical without changing any of the WD setup on the hitch. My Tacoma had the stock springs only and the Tundra has Sumosprings added.

Most people these days drive their truck to their mom's house 90% of the time so it's no surprise manufactures are putting in soft springs. They're just giving customers what theu want.

The obvious solution is for OEMs to offer a REAL damn tow package as an option for those that need it.

For several hundred dollars, you would get a factory-installed hitch receiver, a brake controller that works, transmission fluid cooler, engine oil cooler, tow-specific chassis suspension/payload, and a "tow/haul" button that optimizes engine and transmission operation for towing. Then, like 4WD, if you don't need it, you have the option to not buy it. Apparently they can't do this now because the customer is looking at the competition, and thinking "Brand X comes standard with a tow package. I'm not paying extra for that".

Yeah, it's like that old filter commercial: They're going to PAY for that "tow package"...either sooner, or later. :(

I would hook up that GD trailer on that MFer and load it full of as many people as it would legally hold and rip that SOB down that highway without a care in the world! :burnrubber: Seriously, those payload ratings are goofy as hell. Have you ever seen how loaded down some of the vehicles get oversees? Toyota Hilux's with 40 people standing on boards laid across the bed of the truck, etc...

Here's some funny sh!t. I just check my Camry load capacity. I can actually carry more payload than my Tundra. Camry comes in at 905lbs and my Tundra is 813lbs. I guess I'll start pulling my TT with the Camry.

DANG IT!!! You made me go over to Chevrolet.com to check out Silverado "alledged" capabilities. Now, I can't "un-see" it. JK. :D

I'm just glad I have my solid, highly reliable, bullet-proof Tundra that I won't have to use much for towing.

^This. I use my Tundra to haul shit, not much for towing. If I had any real need to tow anything over 4000 lbs or so, I get a 3/4 ton and probably a 1 ton just to be sure.

I knew I had a pic of my setup somewhere post setting up the WDH. Truck is a 2010, 5100 middle setting, Toytec shackles on the 1.5" setting, HD Roadmaster Active Suspension (RAS). This was with the trailer water tank full, which is just aft of the forward compartment, two 20# propane tanks, 2 batteries. In the truck I am at a half tank, have a 4K generator, about 12 gallons of gas, large rubber made tote full of firewood, another 2 20# propane tanks, heavy azz blackstone camping griddle and totes full of fishing gear...close to a typical load out for going camping. Dry weight on the camper is 6k with a GVWR of 7500. Only thing missing is my family and our bikes loaded up. The front sits almost right back at stock height and the rear down almost an inch...front to back is almost perfectly level w/maybe a 1/2" rake. I haven't weighed, but once we are all loaded up as a family I am probably over payload for the going out trip and closer to being at payload on the return once water & firewood is used up. If it wasn't for the RAS I would probably have very noticeable sag.

Nice big rig. Timber block under tongue jack? Trailer appears in the process of being hitched or unhitched in the photo.

I guarantee you quite a bit over payload in both directions. You have a CM with a truck cap, generator, propane tanks, firewood, bikes, WD hitch and people loaded. Your already over payload without even hooking up the trailer. My 2020 is a double cab and I'm overloaded with way less stuff in my truck and pulling a smaller Freedom Express. I don't really give a rat's ass and as long as the set up is safe to drive. Just don't kid yourself.

It’s hitched and the tongue is just off the blocks so I could get measurements of the front fenders. Once again this was me setting the hitch up.

I don’t kid myself, when hooked up fully loaded like that I know I am over payload. I had all this stuff in the truck for MY setup of the WDH, dealership did the original setup and was off, and I should have stated before but the majority of those extras were because i didn't have the family. I don't carry all the extra fuel, if the generator is full it will last us a long time. And if we aren't dry camping i don't bring it. Same goes for the fresh water tank, only time I fill that is if we can't get it at our destination. I typically don't carry an extra propane tank in the truck and only have the one that I use for the griddle vice carry the little propane bottles. Bikes go on a bike rack on the back of the camper, no way I could fit two adult bikes in the bed of the truck with any other gear...probably could but there would be a lot of curse words and just smashing stuff together.
